Hey Dan, I lived in South Korea (years ago) and explored the east coast as often as possible and surfed all the way up to the DMZ, on the South side, obviously. There is a spot called the 38th Parallel. There are several pretty good breaks all around there, but the military presence is no joke and the guys were very unhappy with me being in the water so close to the border. I feigned ignorance, but I could read the signs (in Korean) saying the beaches were closed. I jumped off from a nearby jetty and "technically" never went on the beach, so felt that it would be fine, and the waves were firing! I stayed in the main town called Sokcho and took the bus to the very last stop on its line and got out there. Mainly works right after monsoons tear through the area or in winter (and it gets chilly, well below zero degrees celsius). I only ever met 2 other surfers, but there is now a fairly decent surf scene further south, towards Busan.

@theseb1979 Yip, I think I saw that video. If I remember correctly, he surfed Yang-Yang, which is probably one of the better (more consistent) waves around there.

​@jeev49 I surfed the ranch. They have the best pointbreaks in the entire world, I live in Hawaii now but the ranch is better than anything, anywhere in the world. It's not super consistent but the waves are so unbelievably perfect even when its small, that it's worth the wait. Every wave is like a perfect wave pool that barrels super hard even when it's knee high. The wind either doesn't blow and it's insanely glassy thanks to all the kelp around all the spot or it just blows straight offshore. An incredible place, and the fact that its incredibly hard to get there makes it even better, its empty most of the time

Nice clip. The truth is a bit different though. I brought many boards there and surfed 3 spots quite a few times. The trip included some visits to Pyongyang but it was a surf only tour. Of course most of the coast is off limits but that small right point in North Hamhung can get really good. We taught many locals and in 3 consecutive trips I was happy to know they kept doing it.

It's a place where people die trying to escape and I don't think that you have to worry about blowing up any spots as most have no access to the internet or even electricity for that matter I read a book by a girl named Naomi who managed to escape and make it to the US one of the saddest true stories I've ever read Anyways another killer video my friend Be well Dan the Man and Safe travels 👍🤘

I used to look on google maps satellite images, then I got paranoid that the governments of other countries might know your checking out their coastline for a possible invasion, especially a country like North Korea . So I stopped, maybe I’m too paranoid.

Another place where foreigners are not allowed to surf is Rodiles, in Spain. Pretty much like North Korea, local dictators impose their law and you cannot even take pictures

I was a google surf spot hound for a while. The hermit kingdom .. whoda thought. It just so happened that the year the the Wash. St. Elwha River Dam was removed between 2011 n 2014, I saw the effect at its' mouth into the San Juan De fuca straight between Washington state n Vancouver Island .. a p p p perfect 300 yd right and a p p p p p peeerfect left .. for just shy of a mile .. !! .. very distinct, non-sectioning whitwash line .. a few years later, it was almost nonexistent.
