I have always loved this song. It completely enchanted me back when the original Final Fantasy XV trailer, then called Versus XIII, dropped some 15 years ago, remember that? Apparently it's actually only called "Somnus". Nobody really knows why the title "Somnus Nemoris" - a faux Latin roughly translating to "Sleep of the Woods" - caught on. Back in 2011 I covered this track in a mashup with Ventus' & Roxas' Theme from Kingdom Hearts, arranged by the amazing Verdegrand. For this arrangement I started from scratch and aimed to deliver the most powerful and emotional version of this song, while staying true to the original.

It’s not bad. And the dlc made it a lot better. It just sucks that it was really trimmed down. And another thing that sucks is the original versus xiii incarnation of it would’ve been an amazing game. Tbh I really hope that one day they go thru with making it.

Great cover, love your take on it. Really captures the gravity of the story/scenes in the game. Somnus was quite mean to Ardyn in his life and you can almost hear the thousand years of grudge and sorrow against him

FF15 had an incredible ost. I remember putting on this in my ps4 for the first time and hearing this theme. I hadn’t played a ff game since ffx when I was in junior high. It felt like coming back to an old friend-I loved it

it truly hits me in the heart, especially the scene of his friends bowing to him as the king on his final mission and eventually sitting on the chair and lunafreya image sleeping next to noctis and main screen image, it just makes my throat and heart constrict. 😭😢

This is super late to the party, but I believe “somnus nemoris” is the fan name to refer to the particular arrangement used in the original ffxiii versus trailers (It has some additional intro chords, and different pacing and mixing of the violin and vocals). The actual officially released version in the ffxv ost is just “somnus”. Just an FYI because I was looking for the ffxiii version when I came across your video, and was a bit disappointed that the arrangement wasn’t what I was looking for, even though it had “nemoris” in the title. A nice version of “Somnus” nonetheless.
