Manufacturer: SOMZ (Salavat Optical and Mechanical Plant), Salavat (Russia)
Application: Civil
Era: Cold War (1982)
Magnification: 7x
Objective Lens Size: 35
Field of View: 8,5° - 150m at 1000m
Specifics: The SOMZ company produced binoculars in various nominations in civilian versions and also for the military. The Berkut-7 was recommended to me by my Russian viewers. Apparently the binoculars produced before the 1990s are of better quality than the newer ones. What I already noticed with the successor version, the БП2 7x35, is the robust workmanship with good optical performance. In addition, you can buy these binoculars for a very low price on internet auction platforms (Usually for around 50 Euros here in Germany). With the model shown in the video, the front and rear cover plates are made of plastic. With other models of the Berkut-7 these are made of metal, which of course is a bit better. The Berkut-7 was also manufactured by the ZOMZ company, which has an excellent reputation for optical devices.
