Man, WB really tried hard to sell this movie as a new franchise back in 2005. I remember seeing promos for this in the Saturday morning block Kid's WB where they had cartoon characters reacting to the trailer (No seriously). The one I vividly remember was the one for Mucha Lucha, where they did a Michigan J Frog shtick with the annoying baby dancing and one character seeing it, Rikochet, and others not believing him. It was Really cringey.. Taking into a account a scene where Jamie's sperm are shown with the Mask's face on and entering Tonya's egg after the musical scene, leading to how the baby was born with the mask's powers, that was later deleted in Dvd - yeah they suffered badly from early 2000's syndrome of trying to be kid friendly while also being vulgar and edgy yet failing badly.

Yeah, I've read the first one. It's completely different and the humor is not the same as in the movies but still it has it's own. The Stanley Ipkiss character is a sociopathic 20' something trying to impress his hot gf Kathy with historical antiques he keeps buying her from the local shop, you might say he's a simp but he's not because she actually cares about him and always tells him to not stress himself out for her. @@Smokey1419 Yes he does. He was put down by his gf who for some reason, was wearing the mask, even though she didn't need it because she already had a handgun in her apartment for safety purposes. I liked how Stanley became more and more unhinged and developed a dark satirical look at society the more he spent time with the mask, we also learn that his childhood was not that great, not that bad though as he visited his old school he used to attend to as a kid and well....to also kill his former female teacher for always bashing and berating him. He kills her, in front of a whole class consisting of 8 year olds by shoving his foot down her throat and keeps berating her for not being able to talk clearly.

12:03 Something I add is that the reason why The Mask is more effective than Son of the Mask is because until the titular character's debut, everyone acted real. Stanley and Charlie may have been the closest to acting over-the-top but because the majority felt so realistic and how beaten Stanley was, the Mask's entrance felt earned. Here, in Son of the Mask, world building is very weak because there is no contrast. There was no grit or anyone to latch onto as a real person since everything is played like a cartoon, even before the Mask's entrance.

I saw this movie back in the late 2000's while sick with the flu because nothing else was on TV. It made me wish the flu became terminal and killed me. It's still the worst movie I have ever seen.

I can't believe Martin didn't walk out of the theater because this was f-in painful the first time I saw it, and I went as The Mask for Halloween.

This movie scared me when I first saw it on Cartoon Network, but not in a good way. Everything around it especially the visuals were terrifying that I don’t think kids should watch it either. It was the last time I saw the visuals being so unbearable to watch until 2019’s Cats came along.

Oh my God it happened. The one thing I remembered in this movie was the neighbor turning into a giant nose and what happened a second after that is the grossest thing I've ever seen.

I haven't even SEEN Son of the Mask but every time I even watch a REVIEW of it, I both genuinely feel bad for whoever is reviewing it (this is no exception) and can feel just one more chip of my childhood being destroyed since the first Mask was one of my favorite movies from the mid-90s... my dad even had it on VHS since its release! Anyways on an unrelated note, yall should REALLY do a Freddy Got Fingered review, I mean it's just WAITING to get roasted by DT!

If you watch *The Mask* ,you see that the special effects only make up, at most, one-third of it. It was the appeal of Jim Carrey and Cameron Diaz that made that movie. The talent gap between Carrey and Jamie Kennedy is like the one between Robin Williams and Rob Schneider....and putting a ton of CGI effects in the movie didn't help.
@fightingmedialounge5193 жыл бұрын
Wouldn't exactly say one third since that's the premise of the movie.
