Eh, probably more like 20-30. This move came out in January 2003, and I saw it theaters when I was six. The film was clearly marketed towards kids within the age range of about five to ten years old, so I highly doubt that anyone who was born in the late eighties and in high school by then had any interest in seeing a movie called “Kangaroo Jack”.

As a proud owner of the DVD, this was a childhood favorite of mine XD, there's a feature that has the voice actor of Kangaroo Jack doing commentary on all the scenes he shows up in, while in character XD And he says some pretty crazy things in it: - He says that originally the first scene with him was supposed to end with a dance number (like Korey joked about) but because everybody on set wanted to call it a day, he improvised kicking Charlie to the ground. - He says he actually hated wearing that red jacket because it was hot and itchy. He even jokes that they kept going through jackets throughout production because they kept getting ruined. - He says that in the dream sequence, all of the dancing kangaroos there are his relatives who are hired for the film and that the one doing Christopher Walken was his uncle who later got hired as Christopher Walken's stunt double - This one's REALLY WEIRD: he does a commentary on the romantic waterfall scene between the two leads, and says that it was originally shot WITH HIM AND THE FEMALE ACTRESS! INCLUDING HAVING A KISS ON SCREEN! I SWEAR I'M NOT MAKING THIS UP! - There's a bit in the film where the Kangaroo accidentally eats some spicy candy, and in the commentary, he jokes that they did so many takes, that his tongue swelled up and he had to go to the hospital. - He even practices an acceptance speech in case he ever WON AN OSCAR! AGAIN! NOT MAKING THIS SHIT UP! XD

From what I understand, it was supposed to be a R-rated mob comedy in the style of Midnight Run. but the producers aw the first rough cut, they realized that it wasn't working as expected. Inspired by positive response to the kangaroo scene in early test screenings, as well as the marketing campaign behind the recently released Snow Dogs, the production shifted the marketing focus away from that of a dark mafia comedy to that of a family-friendly animal picture. The rapping the kangaroo moment was added after the they changed the film.

On a tragic note, the guy who co-wrote this movie, Steve Bing, took his life last year from depression. And the saddest part is the headline on the Variety story about his death: *Steve Bing, Producer and ‘Kangaroo Jack’ Writer, Dies by Suicide at 55* What a way to be remembered.

Even as a kid, I knew within the first couple minutes that I'd have to lower my expectations for this film. But DAMN if I didn't have fun with it the first time in theaters. The biggest laugh that this whole movie got out of me came from Christopher Walken: "Louis Booker, you degenerate moron. Were these Medieval Times and you, a knight in shining armor, you would have, I have no doubt, slayed the maiden and saved the dragon." The moment my brain processed that, I struggled to breathe from laughter.

I still remember insisting we picking it out as a kid at movie store, and been so ashamed and embarrassed that I made family members pay money to rent and watch.. Bubble boy is an amazing film, edgy and hilarious and it would never be made today.. Watched it recently, and can't recommend it enough.

Apparently this was originally shot as an R rated comedy but after the test screenings, they chopped it up to make a PG family movie where the Kangaroo raps exactly once, and that was done because of the successful marketing of Snow Dogs. That original cut likely exists somewhere. Screw the Snyder cut, when is Warner Bros gonna release this?

I have deep rooted memories of going through exactly the emotions Korey and co described as a kid. Seeing the ads. Wanting to see a rapping kangaroo. I specifically remember this being played for a summer beach party at this lakeside cabin community I went to as a kid. And I remember sitting on that beach like, "yo...where the fuck is the rapping kangaroo? What is this awful humor? What the fuck is this?" And I held a grudge ever since. Now I can see why it wasn't what they advertised 🤣 that was a fuckin hilarious episode.

Eventually me and my mom rented it from video scene and imagine the surprise of all us when it turned out to be 2 goons running from the mafia and the kangaroo barely doing anything, but comedic animal stuff. I barely even remembered anything that happened from the movie after watching it.

Main thing I hate about this movie looking back is how they lied in the marketing. Everything was marketed about this rapping, talking, super-cool Kangaroo and they only gave us that one scene. Everything else was just a 100 minute crime drama/romantic screwball comedy. Estella Warren was freakin' hot tho. I used to watch this movie a lot as a kid. It's so funny how bad it was looking back.
