I actually paid money to go see "Son of the Mask". I was the only person in the whole theater. It was a couple of days after it came out so I thought nothing of it. The only reason I stayed was because of the principal of paying for it. I paid money, goddamnit I was going to sit through this piece of shit. The sad thing is, half way through it, some kids snuck in, sat down for 10 minutes and walked out.

Hey Jaimee, did you know the original Mask comic book was horror. The character Jim Carrey played was originally supposed to be an outcast weirdo turned psychotic murderer. Not the shy nice guy we got. The Mask was more like Freddy Krueger in the comics, which is why New Line bought the rights. They changed it to the family fun version of The Mask we got, I don't know why. The point is, Son of the Mask is so far removed from the original source material that it's very hilarious to think about.

Love this, Jamie. SOTM actually shaped who I am and what I do today in a very weird way! I'm not gonna lie and say I liked the movie because I didn't but I'm also not here to hate on other peoples work, I'm not that guy. However, I would love to share a little bit of my story with you. The Mask (1994) meant the world to me as a kid, I was obsessed! I loved it and watched it all the time and couldn't get enough. I first heard about The Mask 2 in around 2003 after randomly searching for it on IMDb and there it was! A sequel to my favourite movie ever. Coming soon. If I recall correctly, the early synopsis was Stanley and Tina have a kid and it gets hold of the Mask? Or something like that, I imagine this is before Carrey turned it down. So I would constantly keep my eye on it's progress and search for any updates I could find! Right up until the promo campaign for the film. I used to spend my IT classes in school on the website playing all the games and stuff! When the time finally came to head to the cinema and check it out, I kinda knew what I was in for, having seen all of the trailers and clips and stuff like that, I mean they pretty much shown everything in there. Obviously, being such a huge fan of the original, I was not impressed. But again, I'm not here to shit on the film. The film acutally made me want to have a go at making a sequel for myself. To see what I would do and how I would handle it. So I did, back in 2006 I began work on a fan-film sequel to The Mask called The Mask Strikes Back. I made that when I was 13 with a shitty Sony handycam and my late older brother and some friends and I still treasure the memories. From that came my enormous passion for filmmaking. So I guess I'm trying to say thank you for getting me into filmmaking! I can't wait to hear more stories about this Jamie and I really respect you and you sharing your honest thoughts and experiences! Love the channel and cant wait for more!

Hey Jamie, it's cool you're talking openly about this. Thank you. For years whenever I needed a laugh I would put on your "Quick Cash" game show sketch from JKX where the other contestant can't figure out the impossible rules. Son of Mask was challenging, I think in part, because it forces the viewer to compare your performance to Jim Carrey's. It sucks having to be a comparison rather than an original creation. Even in that forgotten prequel to Dumb & Dumber "When Harry Met Lloyd" those actors did a very good job I thought but back then Jim Carrey was such a unique force. Comparisons are never fair or right. It's like siblings...they need to be judged on their own merits instead of compared to each other. Looking forward to your Part 2 of this and beyond.

I used to collect all The Mask comics from Dark Horse and loved the original movie. When I was 14 I saw Son of the Mask about 15 times in theaters just to support the idea of more Mask movies. I'm probably the only one in the world who still has all the movie tickets saved with my other Mask collection stuff. Keep doing what you do man, I'm subscribing.

"You're gonna be the star of this movie, and the sequel to one of the biggest comic book franchises ever." Probably very true at the time, but that's just a funny line to hear in the present era of comic book franchises.

Jamie I’ve been watching you since I was 4/5 years old (my parents were the opposite of strict) my first two movies I saw by you were around 2004 I saw scream and then I saw Malibu’s most wanted, then being a huge Jim Carey fan and recognizing you from the two previous movies my grandma took me to see son of the mask and not even 20 mins into the film I started crying and told my grandma I was scared of Loki, crazy I was scared of son of the mask but not scream... you’ve always been an inspiration to me man, I’m 21 now and I love watching your videos it fills me with nostalgia, thank you for creating this dope content and thank you for always being entertaining

Ryan Reynolds, Matt Lillard, and Marlon Wayans were all up for your role? That’s pretty crazy.

@@kendragon2012 with a better script I feel like maybe Ryan or Matt could have done it, like Ryan’s quick, snarky delivery could have worked just as well for The Mask as it does for Deadpool and his other roles.

@@colealbinder2980 I don't think even Reynolds could have saved it with those awful CG effects. Remember the star won't see those till the movie is completed.

Thank you for making this movie, it was an awesome part of my childhood getting to watch this new adaptation of the mask, I rewatched his movie to death as a kid, and I still have it on DVD to this day! Going to bring my children up on this movie so they can hopefully love it as much as I did. I still love this movie so much!

As a child i did not see the first mask so this one was the one that i considered the original. I watched it so often on the weekend mornings. It was always quality time i spend with my sister. I enjoyed every moment of it. Thank you for this!

I was honestly just thinking about your career yesterday, while watching a historical context of horror movies, and of course, scream. I adore these "history of x film" type of vids. And to see it from a direct perspective is absolutely amazing. Thanks for the upload, and all of the laughs.

I get that the original Mask was a huge blockbuster, but why was there such intense interest in doing a sequel without Jim Carrey? No disrespect to you as a comedic actor, you’re excellent ... this is more just a speculation question. I guess I’ll have to wait for part 2.
