My husband was standing next to a post that was struck with lightning as a young lad. He was very scared of thunderstorms. I sensed his fear being transferred to our children, which I helped him realize. He dealt with it so wisely and controlled his fear while he was with the family. As a farmer, thunderstorms were certainly a threat, and I’m so proud of how he protected our children and yet respected the danger of the storm.

Of all the things that could go wrong in the woods I was actually surprised that it wasn’t worse actually

Get the kid a rock tumbler from hobby lobby! My kids LOVED finding rocks to tumble. The are 14 and 18 and still bring home "tresures" when we go out.

2:08 “ especially little boys” Adhd has the same effects on girls. I felt the same way growing up in being in a classroom. My adhd may present itself differently because I’m a female , but my symptoms are still valid
@everlastingvoyage66274 күн бұрын
That’s valid (because same) but I think he’s referring to boys in this call to validate the callers son’s experience. John isn’t negating the affects on girls who have adhd, the caller just didn’t say the call was about a girl who has adhd.

Dang this man had his leg shattered and ripped apart and now will have bolts and screws holding it together for the rest of his life but the wife complains that he yelled too loud? What an insensitive wife.

nah man, if it was my baby I would have held the screams in to protect my baby. What man are you by the way???? sisssi sounds like

Really! I would have thought something was wrong with him if he didn't yell. 😵💫

Yes, but the screaming and shouting made it more scary and traumatic for the child. And if you take your little son, you are responsible for him, and need to think of him first, even if you just broke your ankle... She is also not complaining, just said that this definitely made it more scary for the kid, and John seemingly also picked up on it, with asking how the husband has been since the accident. We are parents and have to check the attitude we model to our children.

I broke my ankle and tore tendons and I can attest that it hurts like hell. I agree with your comment completely.

Hi Dr. John, I've been binging on your videos and have recently subscribed. I love the show and i see you like Social Distortion. I'm an old punk rocker. I hear "Ball and Chain" in my mind during a lot of your calls hahahaha! Anyway, thanks for what you do. I wish i had heard these things when i was young and crazy.. and stupid.❤

No, she just said that him being loud in his suffering made the experience more scary for the kid. Which is true. I mean, we all experience and express pain differently, and she just clarified that he is very expressive...

People die all the time in the woods. Having fear where we dont belong is normal. I had a bear walk right by my camper when I was 5, scared me ever since. I've never regreted my fear of the woods. Get that boy into gaming. We establish civilization for a reason.

People 2:26 die all the time in civilization from things like car accidents far more often than people die in the woods. Can't live your whole life infront of a screen.
@ryanwilliams76645 күн бұрын
This is not the answer. People die all the time in their houses slipping in the tub, or falling down the stairs. Being afraid of the woods is not right. Being cautious about your step in the woods and learning about snakes to watch out for and learning to train your body to respond appropriately to danger without being debilitated by fear is the answer.

Where we don't belong? We're part of the natural world. Cities and modern conveniences don't change that. Having zero survival skills if or when the electricity goes out, isn't something to be proud about.
