From Ecliptica to Talviyo I have loved the albums of this band, despite the mix of Talviyo, I think it is an album with very good material. Songs like Demon's Cage and Storm The Armada are gems. But Clear Cold Beyond doesn't convince me, I don't feel the band is comfortable sonically, that Power Metal sound doesn't feel natural. And I understand why, they were always Hard Rock Metal with Power Metal elements. Tony's solo album "Himmerkraft" is definitely proof that when Tony has free rein to make his music, he is a magnificent artist.

Nice interview. My fave songs so far are Shah Mat, Cure For Everything and A Monster Only You Can't See.. oh and Angel Defiled. The last two songs being slow is making the album end on a downer. Maybe they should have put Dark Empath last which is a mix of everything. Overall the first SA album I've liked in a long while.

So around 5:20 ..... Interviewer says about him writing nearly all the songs.... But i was under the impression, Jani liimitainen had involvement in the first few albums with writing lyrics? Just wondering if i was wrong about that. I know its irrelevant now, that hes not in the band. But i do see that - Jani , has written songs since in dark element, cains offering... More recently,y fathers son - All dreams are born to die I truly respect Tony for hes absolutely amazing vocals , especially when live - he is my favourite male vocalist accros all genres , hes just an amazing singer

Other members have definitely contributed, but if you count the songs not written by Tony, it's really just a handful 🤷♂️ and yes, the comment was definitely about the music 🤘

Jani wrote and composed "My Selene" for Sonata Arctica, but as far as I can see in my album covers Tony is credited for the rest. So one song.

from what i have seen Tony writes all the lyrics and most of the music too . But some of the music the other have a little input . But tony said with the acuistic stuff he let the others have more freedoms

IIRC Jani wrote some important stuff in Find A Gun/The Gun, I'm Haunted 8th Commandment, Replica, Picturing the Past and My Selene. Had the pleasure to talk with Sonata Arctica a few times about their old songs some years ago :P

@@BelgianJasper I enjoyed First in line when it first dropped in October, instant banger status song. Dark Empath is awesome too. Shah Mat and California have grown on me and Angel Defiled is a banger! I definitely still prefer Sonata's first 4-5 albums, but this one is the best one since Grays and Pariah's Child. I do agree with some nitpicky reviews which mention some of the music is kind of flat, or has this weird "layered" tone to it which makes it less crisp than albums like RN, Unia, or even Winterhearts, but its just personal preference thing. I'd love to see more from this band in the future if Tony plans to do some more songwriting in the future. What he said about a potential timeframe for a hypothetical album in the future is promising!

I was expecting a lot from their new album, but it disappointed me a lot... Just before the keyboard solo in Dark Empath, they sound tike a christian cantique🤐🤐 I don't mind if they sing about joyful or dark themes, i just miss the uplifting sensation of Paid in full, or the cathartic feeling of I have the right. Yes, Tony's voice is very warm, but the new songs don't make me as enthousiast as the previous ones, sorry !

There's no right or wrong when it comes to people's personal preferences 👊😉 for me, there are a lot of songs on the new album (I'm excited for it to be released fully tomorrow) that catapult me back to their very early Power Metal days 👊

You have HAD that style of SA for the last 15+ years now, let the "early album fans" have their moment.. I say this as someone who was/am a fan of the early albums but also really enjoyed the majority of the stuff after RN as well, instead of just hating on it like a large portion of "classic SA fans". The only album I didn't purchase and just couldn't get into at all over all these years was Talviyyo. Someone in the comments above stated the album sounds "forced", as if Tony just went back closer to their classic sound to appease old school fans, rather than because it was something Tony creatively desired to do. I say that is not true because if he were the type of person to do it solely to appease some fans he would have never made it 15+ years, and 6 albums, before doing so. I have personally seen the anger and pressure a lot of classic SA fans have put on Tony/SA over all these years, but just as that fervor has died off for the most part with people finally accepting that SA will never go back to that sound, why would they now go back to it just to appease these same people whom mostly had finally given up on caring? Lastly, the change from RN to Unia was very drastic; however, it seems a lot of people forget or don't know that RN was already starting to divide fans because it was the first album to actually start introducing more progressive elements. I bring this up because CCB to me mostly resembles something closer to RN than Ecliptica, Silence, or WHG. It actually sounds like something that would have more naturally came after RN had Unia not been such a dramatic shift/change. I have always said this about Pariah's Child as well. But I say all this because if Tony were just trying to appease with CCB then I think he would have made something even closer to those first 3 albums, instead of something similar to an album that was already starting to divide (RN).
