Yes, they do make their own songs, but they also do make covers from some songs - as almost all bands do. So keep your mouth closed about things that you don't know a thing.

Great cover for a great song. A true guitar hero was lost with Gary Moore's passing. This man could play whatever he set his mind to playing. RIP Gary Moore, you were a genius. Make that guitar cry and wail in heaven.

@kjn5991@kjn5991 All songs from Metallica are meant to be played with guitars, bass, and drums. And Apocalyptica did a great job covering numerous songs, with 4 cellos. Moreover if the "Fields" intro studio version is meant to be played in "lead" guitar style (with string bendings, tremolo-bar and all), but if you type "Out In The Fields (Live) Sheffield" on youtube, you'll see that Moore himself broke the "rule" playing it with chords in a "rythmic" style.

@flyaway2magicland Gary wasn't with Sonata Arctica... he was with the original band who did this song (thin lizzy) Off the top of my head, I'm not sure if this song was his own or Thin Lizzy's but all the same, he was the guitarist of Thin Lizzy and he passed away not too long ago (as I'm sure you can guess!)

@InvisibleYetVisible It has that element of anger and frustration because it's an Irish person commenting on war. Ireland has a lot of history that I couldn't even begin to explain to anyone not living here [same as most places really], no one can fully understand unless they've experienced this history or its effects first hand. That's what makes the original work so much, but I like this version too. Wild Frontier is another Moore song that references actual Irish issues more directly. Sonata!
@DMEB16 жыл бұрын
just heard about this....although as a biased thin lizzy fan and gary moore fan i cant say this is better than the original but DOES IT MATTER??? it is a true worthy tribute to a great rock song buy a good band of a different style so this gets 5*****'s for just existing!!!!! anyone who puts this down for not sounding like the original I PITY YOU FOR BEING SO CLOSED MINDED!!! GOOD GOOD!!!!!
@moviemaker300015 жыл бұрын
You are right, it's just your opinion. Tony is an incredible singer. And it's all a matter of preference, they didn't "take only the melodies and the lyrics and miss out everything else that made the song enjoyable", they made a COVER. They remade the song to fit their style. I really like their style. Just because you don't doesn't mean the cover is bad.
@Raisetsuai14 жыл бұрын
How can it be overrated if over half the people who comment on here are putting it down? From what I've heard of Sonata's covers, this is just as damn good as any other cover they've done. I don't throw such praises around so easily either, this is an amazing cover.

Its a cover you need to listen to at least 4 times to be able to appreciate it. But after that... it really sounds like like a good cover of a good song. (in my opinion, Unia in full needs some repetition to appreciate it) Good vid Alkuteos, thanks for posting. Sonata Arctica Rocks the World :D Theyre the best!

@Sethuria14 жыл бұрын
Indeed, occasionally he does force his voice, if you've heard the live performances its quite a bit more noticible as well. However the range at which he can force his voice is so high, its more then a fair compromise, since as we just covered, its barely noticible in the first place.
@jayleppanen16 жыл бұрын
It's so pitiful to read people arguing about this being better/worse than original a) everybody's got a right to his/her opinion b) Sonata never intented to make a better version than Gary&Phil, just an own version Peace!

@Metmusie of course everybody is entitled to her/his ownoppinion, but my oppinion is that you are tone deaf. I listen to Sonata for two reasons: 1) I love sung stories; 2) His voice is soooelodic . . . the reverbrado alone is impresive! . . . and his vocal range . . . Wow!
@Crunchic16 жыл бұрын
you should respect Sonata for their style, making it ''epic'' is something they do to all their covers, I would think that having their own style is better than following the style of the cover, they aren't posers they recognize good music

@Astenios666 Actually I've looked up a lot of Gary Moore's live shows with this song from the early days to present day. He can barely keep up with the song's high vocals, Tony sings circles around this song. Vulprine Demon is right
@dumberdummer15 жыл бұрын
The original was really good, but I don't think I can agree with someone saying they failed this song. This is still really freakin epic and I thought the keys were amazing here. What they did here was put some of their own style into it, and sometimes thats the point of a cover, not always sounding like the other band.

Poeople need to stop being ignorant assholes about it and respect both bands/artists. it is an amazing cover, of an amazing original song. I myself listen to a ton of Power Metal. I haven't heard the original song yet, but by the sound of Sonata's cover, I'd love it aswell... Those who talk down on cover songs just because they think the original is better, remember this, covers are made as TRIBUTES to the original creators, just look out for some of the most popular songs you can find, and you're bound to find many covers of them, all tributes to the original artists.

This song is not bad. It has some very intricate arrangements. It has it's peaks and valleys. It's actually good. But the original was such a powerful (wich is why I think they chose to cover it)collaboration between twos legends. The main vocal in this one is distracting at the begining, but the harmony vocals are very well executed. And it has an excellent production. I could understand your preferance, but personally I'm oldschool on this one. Peace.

I don't think it was meant to be a cover so much as bringing the message of the song to the modern day. Disturbed did the same thing with Genesis' "Land of Confusion". Oh and Diego, Guns and Roses did a cover of Knockin' on Heavens Door. It was it think Dylan who did it first. I'll double check it though.
