I'll never forget getting to play with all of these amazing Musicians at Severance Hall for the 2016 CancerBlows Concert with the CYWS. This concert is truly one to change your life in the best of ways. Dr. Ceipluch always told us that this concert was life changing and for me it truly was nothing short. This beautiful performance brings me to tears every time I see and hear it. In addition to losing Ryan in June of 2020, I lost another dear colleague, also seen in the video, later the same year. The word that springs to my mind is elegant. The composition, the interpretation, and the performance, especially by the soloists, but also by the entire ensemble is just so organic, truthful, and elegant as to inspire hope for something better in the world. It almost literally lifts us up out of the Fox News, (or CNN - take your choice) who's zooming whom, quicksand of 21st Century information saturation and takes us to a better place.

I think it's interesting that Ryan chose his cornet for the majority of his solo part, switching to piccolo trumpet only at the very end. Beautiful tones on both.
