Here is another song I wrote, arranged and performed in the Gothic language. This time, it is about the Battle of Guadalete, fought by King Roderic of the Visigoths, who is considered to be their last king, against the Umayyad Caliphate who were beginning the Muslim Conquest of Spain in the year 711. It is thought that the defeat really spelled the end of the Gothic language in Spain, as Latin was rapidly becoming the language of government anyway and had already reduced the status of Gothic to a daily conversational tongue for many. Guadalete was the final nail in the coffin. The generally accepted consensus is that Roderic was abandoned during the battle by other Visigoth nobles who had pledged their aid but sought the throne, so wished to see Roderic fall in battle. They were stationed on the flanks but withdrew as the enemy cavalry approached, leaving the Gothic army surrounded. It appears, however, as though the rivals of Roderic were slain in the battle anyway as they attempted to escape. This was the beginning of hundreds of years of Islamic dominion in Spain. I hope you enjoy. Please leave a comment and like the video if you did! Feel free to suggest events/people you’d like to see songs about. *Ah, and please forgive the slightly screwy subtitles in the second chorus, my software melted a bit ;-( If you’d like to support the channel you can donate here - cheers: www.buymeacoffee.com/theskaldicbard Lyrics in the description. Norse / Icelandic / Gothic / Dutch / English / Norwegian / Faroese / Danish / Welsh / Breton / Cornish are the prettiest languages ever created and they have the most epic songs, but all other Germanic and modern Celtic languages are also gorgeous, so the songs with such lyrics tend to be really good with pretty melodies, and I am learning them all - I highly recommend learning these languages 2gether, as they are way too pretty not to know, and any other Germanic languages!

King Roderic violated a generations old custom maintained by the line of Visigothic Kings. The custom was to place another lock upon the door of a room in a tower in the city of Toledo.Instead of following this custom, he instead broke the locks and found a chest in the room. There was written warning that indicated that, essentially, when this custom was broken, the Visigothic Kingdom would end. He violated the principle of the Runa, or Mystery and paid the price. Ave Reconquista! Gothic tribes have come to Spain and Italy from Ukraine, after Hunnes have conquered Aujom ("land of rivers" from gothic, another name of Ukraine like Rus, Ruthenia or Schytia). Gothic people lived in Crimea until XVIII century, but russians after destroying Crimean Khanate, have deportated all christians (Goths and greek) to North Tauria (near Mariupol) and big history of Goths have ended. We ukrainians remember about Ermanarich, the most famous Gothic king, who conquered lands from Black Sea to Baltic and Volga, de-facto created proto-Ruthenia, cause Kyivan Rus in future will be in same borders. For example, ukrainian word "Тато" (Tato) which translate as "Father" came from gothic "Atta", also "князь" (knyaz', translation: prince), "броня" (bronya, translation: armor) came from gothic "brunnja". And in ukrainian language you can see other words, who have Gothic Heritage. Ostrogothic people invested a part in creating of Ukrainian Nation, as schytians and sarmatians, and of course Antes (Slavs). United in religion, history and ancestors☦️🇺🇦🤝🇪🇦✝️

Not the happiest of the subjects, actually quite a sad one, showing some cowardice from the part of the other "noble" visigoths, but in my opinion this is one of the versions that your essence is most present on, that warlike-battle field style. As I closed my eyes I could see a glimpse of the visigoths marching into battle and suffering from the missiles of the muslims, and at the end King Roderic falling from his horse and being stabbed. I guess no one is able to do a better song about Guadalete 711.

Bonjour@@MatthewVanston. Je n'avais pas vu vous avez raison ! Il y a une version en norse. En tant que français j'adorerais entendre une version en ancien français. Je ne savais pas qu'il était populaire en langue nordique.
@MatthewVanston10 ай бұрын
