3:33 The "Jukka did something there" is actually holding playing steady 4/4 over 7/8 odd time. So first bar is played like this 1(2)3(4)5(6)7 - notes in brackets are a snare hits. Second bar is played like first bar so you need to skip one eight note to be again on 2,4 and 6 with a snare. But on a third bar you dont skip note so you land on 1,3,5 and 7 with a snare. And this is what Jukka actually is doing here. And because he continue with this 4/4 feel he lands on 2,4 and 6 on a final fourth bar. So to sum up it goes like this: 1(2)3(4)5(6)7|1(2)3(4)5(6)7|(1)2(3)4(5)6(7)|1(2)3(4)5(6)7. As you can see between first and Second bar there is one extra eight note. But between Second third and fourth bar a snare is played evenly every two eight notes giving this common 4/4 feel rythm. Hope I do not overexplain it and also that it helps to understand whats going on in that rythm.

Are you feeling that 7/8 time signature in the verse? Then in the second & fourth part it switches to 8/8 straight time. I love the lyrics to this song. You will notice all of the song references in just the first verse. Storytime, River Ghosts (Ghost River), Mermaids (Turn loose the Mermaids), of Whitman's (Song of Myself), and the Ride (Last Ride of the Day). All from the Imaginaerum record as is this one. It was inspired by a famous poem of the same name by Walt Whitman. You may like part IV of this song which is a long spoken poem. It would not be appropriate at a metal festival, but if you check out the studio version you can hear it. Yeah, Emppu takes sips of beer (Miller/Corona?) during songs...I believe there was an episode here where he turned off Floor's in-ears during the song. She retaliated by switching his beer to apple juice, which he hates.

Upptäcka = to detect, discover, find. Bothered me too what it is exactly in English so I googled. "Song of myself" is a great song, high on the list of the best Nightwish songs for many. Lots of interesting elements in one song. I guess that should not be a surprise knowing Tuomas' songwriting. Hard to think of anyone harmonizing with Floor like Marko. I guess they can find someone, Jarkko Ahola?, who can sing very well, and even play the bass at the same time, but there is only one Marko. After Kai took over after Jukka, everyone says Kai is a great drummer, but fans still miss Jukka, he is such fun to watch.

Constanza, I hope you also listen to the Song as a whole. Especially that part 4 although never performed live is worth to listen too. As you close looks at the lyrics you’ll notice that there are several references to other songs, like: ‘Ghost River’, ‘Dead Boy’s Poem’. Also I would recommend the last sentence written on the screen: “And there forever remains that change from G to E minor”. “G to E minor” played a great role in the Imaginaerum Movie, It’s the name the old man (Played by Tuomas) had given his daughter: Gem (G.E.m.). Part 4. Lyrics (studio version, but also part of the movie plot. I see a slow, simple youngster by a busy street, with a begging bowl in his shaking hand. Trying to smile but hurting infinitely Nobody notices. I do, but walk by. An old man gets naked and kisses a model-doll in his attic. It's half-light and he's in tears. When he finally comes his eyes are cascading. I see a beaten dog in a pungent alley. He tries to bite me. All pride has left his wild drooling eyes. I wish I had my leg to spare. Good ear on what Jukka is doing,. He's playing straight time over 7/4 in the verse, but every few measures adds an up beat to switch the down beat. I haven't worked it out, yet, but it's very clever.

Such a great song, one of the absolute best from Nightwish in my opinion. I actually do rate it above both versions of GLS, there's only The Greatest Show and Poet above Song of Myself - If I had to put them in some kind of order. The lyrics of Song of Myself are loaded with references to other NW songs, it's definitely one that can handle a lot of relistening and studying the buried meanings. Not only that, but there are so many amazing individual lines of lyrics in it. Just to highlight a couple that you might have picked up on the way... It truly is a pleasure watching the pleasure you derive from these performances. This entire show is magical - you have to know they were pointing to this festival when the tour kicked off in 2012 as the high point and when it seemed it was eluding them in the middle of the tour and when Floor filled in and seamlessly took the songs as her own it was just a perfect collision of events. You smashed the reaction out of the park, great job.

She's a legit soprano no doubt , but for me the instand left hand airspins and the reverse position baquet using from Jukka in snare in drums at middle interlude is a highlight . This is a legit power hit snare technique , the guy is a master!

I love how Nightwish pays homage to other heavy metal bands in some of their songs! I hear some of the Metallica song "One" in this song and some of their song "Enter Sandman" in "The Greatest Show on Earth".... really classy of them to do that! I loved your squeal during the song...😍😍😍😍

Always love your reactions to NW, they are such an amazing band, I have been on this old globe for over 7 decades and heard a fair amount of music, but never has a band brought such emotions to me as NW especially with Floor singing. Tarja and Annette have beautiful voices and stirred a little emotion in me, but Floor has raised my blood pressure for battle, and brought tears to me, and of course Floorgasms. Her voice blends so beautifully with Marcos, Tuomas writes such wonderous works, Emppu plays solos so masterfully that every song is a master piece. I can and do listen to them every day.
