Our live cover of "Song Of Storms" from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, originally composed by Koji Kondo. This arrangement by Patrick Bartley.
WOOO! This seems to be a great month for Zelda fans - we got a sequel to Breath of the Wild announced! We all knew something was coming, and it's great to see that not only do we have some new Zelda games and remakes to look forward to, but a brand new game on the horizon, too. Well, the hype for the Zelda franchise certainly didn't spew out of nowhere, as many of us started as kids with this immortal classic - Ocarina of Time, and we popped this little guy in to embark on a grand adventure. Join us on this adventure, too, as we take one of the iconic songs from the game and do what John Coltrane did to "My Favorite Things" from The Sound of Music - honestly, we'd like to hope that if Trane were alive, he'd be playing burning experimental jazz versions of VGM tunes... ALSO MORE SHREDDING ACCORDION - NEXT LEVEL.
==============================
Pocket Band now has a new home in New York City! We're hosting VGM+ (vgm and more) jazz jam sessions at Black Cat LES every 1st Sunday of the month. If you're a musician, bring your axe, and if you're not a musician, bring your DS, Switch, or your good vibes! Everyone is welcome. We want to make this a nice haven for J-culture lovers and music lovers alike. Go to our official Facebook group below for more info!

I usually don't engage in everything like this, but to be honest I'm not sure what everyone is saying is wrong with the guitar. He's playing fourth voicings, which is a common decision when playing modal music like this. Every jazz guitar player does this. I think the issue everyone is really having is with the unfortunate way I had to record this, with 2 zoom recorders - one overhead, and one near the guitar amp/bass player (who always objects to using an amp). The next wave of acoustic recordings will be different, I guarantee this. Thanks everybody.

Honestly I think it sounds fine. I hadn't even thought there was an issue until I saw this comment. But I should also add I have studied jazz 🤷‍♂️

I know only slightly more than nothing about jazz, but I didn't hear anything wrong with it. It's the Song of Storms: the guitar chords make it sound off-kilter, uneasy, maybe a little disorienting, but I figured that just fits the feels of the piece.

You are right. I'm not good at any sort of music, but I can understand that there are many issue in this video. If someone who couldn't found read follow me, search "Whiplash jazz" and listen those musics. You can aware differences.

People are complaining about the guitar? Guys......it's not a cover, it's a JAZZ cover. These guys are great precisely because they jazz-up the songs, not just play the exact same melodies or harmonies on different instruments. Jazz isn't about alto saxophones, upright basses and semi-hollow guitars. The arrangement/composition matters more than the instrumentation.

Listen to Mexican music. Like "Corridos" the acoustic guitar, tuba, and accordion are the primary instruments in that type of music and iwhen it's only those 3 playing it's the best IMO..check it out

Man, some mics and a soundboard would go a long way in making this come alive on the Internet. You guys are all super talented. Thanks for sharing! Maybe considering moving the bass to the front of the group *gasp* so it's closer to the mic if you don't want to mic everyone up individually.

This is my favourite thing you've done, the accordion and sax was just such an amazing variation on the structure of an already amazing song, every musician alive always contemplates"how do I make this better" and a lot of times can't achieve a better result despite the effort, this just proves it is entirely possible to completely recreate a classic into a live master piece. and the Julie Andrews reference was an amazing touch.

Loving these uploads, minor gripe because I love your content regardless but it's been nothing but videogames for the past couple videos. Any plans to spice things up with some anime? Would love to see you guys take on the underrated Gunsmith Cats OP or maybe some of Yuji Ohno's stuff. Keep up the awesome work, love it!

Thanks for the comment! These uploads have been pocket band uploads because they are the most consistent way for us to get videos out to you all, as it takes a lot for us to do full group content. But we're performing with Donna this Saturday, so you may see some footage from that, which is a healthy mix of everything! :)

There are a lot of reasons that the guitar sounds off. The biggest one is that he's sustaining the chords. They should be much shorter notes, with some palm muting. He's playing each chord with the same volume. No hate on him, it's probably just because he's reading the music. Reading music is like reading a book out loud. If you read everything at the same volume and emphasis it will sound unnatural to the listener. But if you read it like you were speaking it for the first time, it will be more nuanced and natural. Compare the beginning to 02:10 and you'll see what I mean. That is a much more musical accompaniment choice he made there.
