Robert Plant and John Bonham were about 23 at this concert Page the oldest was maybe 28. Did you noticed the extended guitar solo that was mostly improvised on the spot? He was famous for adding stuff to the songs and so was Plant.

So glad you took the time to see them play live. In the studio you have time, but live in front of thousands of people and cameras some would rate that solo as the best rock guitar solo ever! BTW if you want to torture yourself even more, "Since I've been Loving You" same concert!

Of course! These are fairly easy to make and so long as they don't get blocked upon upload, I don't mind putting up copyright detected material.

At the time of this concert (July 1973), Page was 29, Jones was 27, Plant was a few weeks shy of 25, and Bonham was 25. Glad to see you finally get to some live Zeppelin reactions. These will surely rake in a lot of views, resulting in increased revenue, which you can donate to my personal junk food charity; all proceeds going toward the sustenance of my coveted 1 pack belly. Something to consider: Around 1972/73, Robert Plant had vocal cord surgery, in order to remove nodules from his throat. As a result, his voice was permanently altered from that point onward (this concert took place post-surgery, I believe). Due to the surgery, he lost a lot of power and range in his voice, and was no longer able to hit those classic high-pitched waling notes that he was famous for. If one listens to live performances between ‘68-‘72, his voice was incredibly strong, and his range was unbelievable. Also, the timbre of his voice was completely different; it had a more rich tone. From ‘73 onward, his voice became more nasally, and he had to strain to hit the higher end of his vocal register. His voice was still really strong around the time of this concert, but my 1975, it was totally shredded, like a big toe callous meeting a pumice stone. Houses of the Holy is the last album where his voice was still in top form. Once you get to Physical Graffiti (which is a compilation of new and older material), you will hear both Plant’s original and altered voice. On tracks like The Wanton Song and Sick Again, his voice is more raw and sandblasted than Don Lemon’s colon after an all-night orgy. I find that Plant’s rougher voice complements the squalid aesthetic and texture that many of the songs on the album have, though. Looking forward to more of these reactions.

To think in October 68 when they became Led Zeppelin from the New Yardbirds Plant and Bonham had both just turned 19 and were already turning in performances like this.

Alex, I'm surprised I can't see any other comments on this topic but I haven't fully scanned. When Led Zep were honoured at the Kennedy Centre, many acts did covers including Heart who did a fantastic cover of Stairway (seriously it's great) which you should check out, the surviving band were in the audience naturally. Heart were very respected by Led Zep, and the band were sad that Jason Bonham (John's son) couldn't make the show, only then to be surprised to see him pop up on stage to play his dads drum kit on that cover, wearing his dad's famous hat. Plant got very emotional as it meant a lot to him, it was after all the son of his best friend whom he lost, the son he saw grow up. Anyway, do check it out there are a couple of versions, probably best to watch the official one on the Kennedy center channel. Always make me tickle watching Jimmy Page look up to the heavens, as the first "stairway to heaven" line is sung. 🙏

P.s. I just realised, you are a music fan first and lyrics second, is that fair? If so, the cover I mention above is something I hope you would appreciate for the production, ofcourse the guitar playing is nowhere on par to page, so don't be too harsh and let that overshadow your impression 🤯

Cool reaction, I think their best filmed performance is dazed and confused from I believe the same show you watched. Is in the movie The song remains the same, but is half of hour which is not the easiest to react, the other big one is Immigrant song live. And I saw that you will not listen to the album Presence, so I would recommend that you at least hear Achilles Last Stand (the studio version is the way to go) usually the song is together with other big ones like Stairway when come to their best stuff

One of the most overrated songs of all time. I remember in the 1970s people played this as an emblem of serious rock music' when in reality they were listen g to ABBA and Elvis.
@lyndoncmp5751

Revisionist nonsense. Stairway is one of the most requested songs in radio history. And the album this was on sold more copies than any Abba or Elvis album. Zeppelin drew bigger crowds than they did too. Millions of people wanted to listen to things that weren't mainstream pop.
