I feel like in the last couple of years this has changed for the simple fact that listeners attention spans do not last that long.... and songs have gotten shorter due to algorithms & streaming. BUT this is definitely the traditional format
@RappingManualYT2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, absolutely right. The video was made a few years back, when that structure still worked. Now, it's just quatrains and 8s. Anything longer, max it out to 12 bars. People tune out.

4 minutes is totally crazy unless you're travis scott and you put 3 different beats in a song
@theprophet_-__cxvii__-_86935 жыл бұрын
Travis Scott sucks. And 4 minutes is nothing if you have a lot to say. Good rappers use more lyrics and extremely diverse words in their raps than bad rappers do. If you look at Travis Scott lyrics against let’s say Mos Def, Travis Scott is going to have much less lyrics let alone skill.
@davide.valentini5 жыл бұрын
@@theprophet_-__cxvii__-_8693 I'm italian so I don't really know that deeply American rap but I was just saying that in order to make a track "attractive" for the nowadays community it gotta be less than 4 minutes, if longer its not gonna be a popular song, I didn't mean to say it was gonna be bad
@theprophet_-__cxvii__-_86935 жыл бұрын
Davide Valentini True. Mainstream music is pretty bad tho. Short songs, reused lyrics, no word diversity and then they keep using the same marketing scheme which was originally intended for kids. Than that grew into everyone’s liking. Most mainstream music isn’t very real. Every aspect of the song is scientifically tailored to get stuck in your head. Specific frequencies, hooks, anything that will get stuck in your head.
@theprophet_-__cxvii__-_86935 жыл бұрын
Davide Valentini Songs under four minutes are designed so they end quicker and get to the next song quicker. That way you won’t get bored. It’s all marketing
@davide.valentini5 жыл бұрын
@@theprophet_-__cxvii__-_8693 yeah that's what I meant from the beginning since the video was referring to mainstream music (or at least I intended it as such)... I just meant four minutes for mainstream music is way too much and you're not gonna make it to the charts, and the only exception is travis scott who is up there in the charts with a almost 5 minutes song

Great video, has anyone got an example of the 'before/after chorus' as I don't really know what he is referring to there? Thanks
@RappingManualYT3 жыл бұрын
If you play any pop song, you will notice how after their verse, they have a section right before the chorus and then one right after it. It's there to make the song more memorable.

lines in the song. Kinda like a sentence in writing. For example: In this here "Im a boss with it authentic all ya frauds better quit with the trash talk before you get tossed in it yall trippin bar rippin yall sippin too much write till my palms drippin lost in it thoughts different" "Im a boss with it authentic all ya frauds better quit with the trash talk before you get tossed in it" would be a bar
