Angelina Jordan - Gloomy Sunday audition - Norway's Got Talent- english subtitles

Angelina Jordan Astar performed Gloomy Sunday as her first public audition on "Norway's Got Talent", Friday, March 7h, 2014.
The song was composed by Hungarian pianist and composer Rezső Seress and published in 1933. Original title: Szomorú Vasárnap (Sad Sunday).
Angelina's version is based on the Billie Holiday version from 1941.
The fact that Billie Holiday did not write this song, may be why Angelina says "Gloomy Sunday f r o m Billie Holiday" in stead of "b y".
(Norwegian: "Gloomy Sunday f r a Billie Holiday", in stead of "a v".
The judges are:
Lisa Tønne, born 1977. Stand-up artist and actress, tv host and actress.
Omer Michael Jamal Bhatti, born 1984. Rapper and dancer. Stage name: O-Bee He is also known for
his friendship to Michael Jackson.
Bjarte Hjelmeland, born 1970. Actor, stand-up artist and theatre director.
After the Norway's Got Talent contest was over, he portrayed Angelina in one of his stand-up shows.
Angelina saw it, and thought it was funny.

a special story she wants to tell us (...) When she is on stage she never wears shoes,
and the reason for this is an experience she had as a six-year-old,
when she and her family lived in the middle east.
There she met a girl who worked as a street vendor.
Angelina speaking:
"...she said, how nice shoes you have. I asked, do you want them?
I gave them to her, and she said, thank you. And then I said, what is your dream?
She said, I want to be a doctor, but I can't. I said, you must never give up.

What an incredible performance for a singer of any age. But to do that at age 7 is crazy! She is a prodigy, she was indeed born to sing. I saw her 2 songs on AGT. She has performed for almost a decade even though she's still quite young. She turns 16 in January 2022. Through it all she seems to have remained very humble.

I watched this after watching her performance in AGT. This song os banned in a certain country, for the author commited suicide after writing the song. There were also listeners who happened to commit suicide after listening to it. Maybe just coincidence or they just knew the history of the song and chose to listen to it after killing themselves. I grew up listening to Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James and even Screamin' Jay Hawkins. The first time I watched this video in 2020, I had to open my eyes because I actually expected to see Billie Holiday standing somewhere on that stage. Angelina has said that, if it wasn't for Billie Holiday, there wouldn't be an Angelina Jordan. SHE chose this song for her audition in honor of "Lady Day", and she intentionally omitted the entire 2nd verse which actually dives even DEEPER into the suicide message.

Well that and they always sing condensed versions of the songs they choose to audition with. There wouldn't be enough time for everybody if they sang these songs in their entirety. On AGT she sang Bohemian Rhapsody and she was only up there for a little over 2 minutes. That is a 6 minute song. I'm sorry if I'm coming off wrong. I'm often told that I do that a lot. Some kind of disorder I guess.

The moment that impressed me the most when I was first introduced to Angelina was this … After the initial questions by the judge and he said “The scene is yours.” She was instantly focused and ready to start. She immediately signaled she was ready. No hesitation. She was seven/7 years old and all business. Such maturity. At that moment I thought “She is serious. Her eyes are set on her goal.” They still are and she hasn’t reached it yet but you know she will and it will be just as astounding as everything she has done so far.

This kid is her own person. She has a more musical, melodious yet soulful style than Billie Holiday. I prefer Angelina's voice over Billie Holiday's. She's not channeling anyone else either. It's just her own pure connection to herself & her feelings for the tone & tribute the song depicts. Angelina's heart has to be huge! Great job mum & dad. She has that rare quality that just captures your heart & takes you really close to hers, it's a unique pure feeling. Most kids are amazing when they 'connect' with something they truly love.
