The Lorna Shore vocalist uses a technique that the deathcore community calls “tunnel-throat”, where you shape your mouth and throat as if you were yawning, and perform a false cord scream while maintaining that shape. Travis Ryan from Cattle Decapitation popularized it like seven years ago, and now it’s hard to find a deathcore band that doesn’t use it.

Alex’s style is definitely harder to do than Will’s but I think a lot of it is because people don’t know how many styles Alex actually does. I think a lot of his lows and gutturals are fry, but his mids are false chord, and his super lows are also false chord. I think his primary tool is his projection. When I try to replicate any of his styles, I have to really utilize my breath support and make the growls as loud as possible without loosing compression and control. From messing around a bit, I think his iconic super low growls are essentially a basic false chord low but you want to strategically lower your larynx without straining your throat and most importantly open your throat and mouth. Just create as much space as possible. Lower your jaw and relax your throat, but keep your soft pallet raised and push with your diaphragm.

With Freddie, I feel like the way in which his mouth was literally constructed a bit differently had a big influence on his sound and makes it hard for people to really nail it.
@jakobdissingvang78513 жыл бұрын
True, there’s just a some kind of fundamental thing Freddy has that make him sound so unique and like himself, that’s pretty hard cover. What struck me a bit watching this, is how clean Freddie’s sound are in the high register - he makes it sound so effortless, and there’s no distortion going on as well. I am not a singer myself (unless I am in the car by myself 😉 ) but a massive Queen fan, and the only one I have heard that comes close to the sound of Freddy is Marc Martell.

It's called a voice. Everyone has vocal cords that develop very differently as they use their voice growing up. Freddy cultivated his voice over many years with plenty of practice.

The thing about how Freddie sings the vowels is probably to do with his natural accent because even when I sing I carry my natural accent into the singing itself
@Si1v3RfaNg3 жыл бұрын
If you do research into how the brain works you'd find that musical things use a totally separate part of your brain than actual speech. So in theory this might not be true. For example, a lot of people who have hardcore stutters that sing don't even stutter at all while singing because of this exact reason. Like when I listen to Dua Lipa sing I don't hear her accent at all. Didn't even know she was British at all till I watched an interview with her.

Just watched. You're hella skilled. I think the thing that's holding you back on some of these is your training on how to scream, how your open/force your throat. It seems to be overlapping when you try to scream-sing some parts.

Also, more than a little happy that won't be in the style of Lorna Shore :D
@shona55123 жыл бұрын
The only thing is that you don't use your throat to make these sounds. You'll occasionally change the shape of your throat in order to tighten the airways and alter the sound, but that's about it. Other than that, it's all air forced from the diaphragm, so if it would hurt your throat, you're doing it wrong.
