I've always loved, and been moved by, the Grateful Dead's version of this song (from Skull and Roses) …. but I'll have to say this version has let me understand the song better. Thanks Pete!

SO grateful for your comment! I think the Dead were sometimes limited in extreme dynamic expression because of how many people were in the band (this was not always the case, of course). As a solo artist, I can take the song anywhere without other band members being expected to take all the twists and turns with me. It's my own experience with the songs rather than a conglomeration of experiences.
