Just keep going. You can always release it your self as a worst case, it is so easy now to hire a vocalist and other session musicians and produce and release your self, over time if you are good you will be noticed.

There are over 100,000 songs per day uploaded to the aggrivators...personally I have never wanted any part of that, but it certainly is an option open to all songwriters.

That's why I highlighted as worst case, as you pointed out the competition is high, and you also have to be good at marketing in addition to songwriting, there are also other options such a Sound Better, I see a lot of people asking for songs, you can get paid upfront but the return is lower. But if have a good catalog of songs and hitting your head against a wall and getting nowhere getting some songs out there can help gain feedback on which songs of yours people like, and what to focus on. If you do try this I would suggest releasing under a pseudonym, project or band name though, and my indicator of how good a song is likely to do is the number of Shazams a song gets, rather than streams.

No conspiracy here, just simply supply-demand economics. Too much of the former and not enough of the latter, so newbies get squeezed.

Yes, It's always been hard for newbies. Just want to let you know that newbies are breaking into the business all the time. So it's not impossible. The last ASCAP awards I went to, 40% of the winners were first time winners. :)

Are guitar solos obsolete?
@redcurrantrecords
@redcurrantrecords Жыл бұрын
I think anything that is really good (or very different) is not obsolete, things come in and out of fashion, but even if an instrument or trend that is out of fashion for a bit there are still some amazing cases of bucking the trend and breaking through. If you hear the song (or visualize it) and you think this would sound amazing with a guitar solo, then give it a try.

No...guitar motifs are more popular than ever...32 bar mega solos are not in anymore...but motifs are very useful as are guitar counter melodies. Hope this helps.

There is just so much noise about what, where, and how. Is there not a place where you can go to submit a job application for songwriting like any other job? I just want to know where that place is. I just want the opportunity to lay out what I have written on my own and see if that leads to writing on a team of writers. I've got the goods. I'm floundering with co-writes with people who decided to be songwriters who just lack the mileage. They will have parts of songs and all they want is for me to finish them. I need to work with people who already know how to write whole songs on their own and can apply those skills to a group effort. Writing with newbies is such a wrestling match having to constantly explain why one thing works better than another. Then, they choose to die for that idea leaving it on the proverbial hillside to languish in unfinished song purgatory. What do I do?

Hey Matthew, songwriting really is not like any other job. It's a constantly growing and changing field. That's what makes it exciting. SongTown brings in pros to help you level up your writing and then our Edge Groups hook up writers, who are ready, with top publishers. it's a process. There's definitely a lot of noise online from social media "gurus". That's why we suggest listening to real pros in the industry who have been there and walk the walk.
