A funny story about this. Years ago the soloist IU had given out gifts to music VIPs at a concert that included an 'IOU' for one guest artist collab. Then IU became the biggest artist in Korean. A huge superstar. Then the duo AKMU presented her with her old IOU , obliging her to collab on this song. IU said they were the only people to use that IOU.

AKMU is the sister-brother team whose music producer / song wroter is brother Chanhyuk. His music production is one of the best I have ever heard in Kpop. Do react to one of their best songs - Dinosaur. Thsy teamed up with one of the very GOAT singer songwriter, IU. She has probably the most number of no.1 of the charts songs in Kpop. She wrote most of her songs. You will love her.

a bit of deeper context : (part 1) there are 2 "part" of kpop/ kmusic : 1. kpop group/ idols --> dance oriented, international fans / fandom oriented, banger/ flashy songs 2. soloist/ indie/ ballads/ k hiphop/ OST etc ---> vocal/ lyrics oriented, local - general people oriented, variety of genres (casual people in South Korea love ballads, hiphop, pop, and trot) so yeah, mostly what international fandom hyped are just (1), but actually in South Korea, casual people tend to love (2) more ... AKMU is one of the top artist in (2) category ... They're duo singer songwriter and they're siblings (Lee Chan Hyuk, the brother as composer/producer (He's genius!) and vocalist, and lil sister Lee Su Hyun as main singer) They are very underrated internationally, but famous and well-loved in S.Korea IU is a rare singer, as she's on both those category, as she's VERY POPULAR like an idol, have her own fandom (although not as devoted as group fandom/ have different behaviour), and have a bit fans internationally; but also well-loved by all age and by general people in South Korea, also her songs are sometimes feels "indie" and so lyrics-focused. IU is maybe of of the biggest music acts in South Korea for the last 12 years. In term of number weeks as #1 in Digital Chart : its IU (60 weeks), BTS (24), and Big Bang (22) This Nakka, is the collaboration of 2 big artists, AKMU and IU, and interestingly, this genre (synth retro pop) is not their usual genre. This song is quite a bit of experiment for both artists.

In the Palette episode they mentioned that Akmu and IU met back in 2014. I checked back and "SBS Now" still has some small clips of this on their KZbin channel. Sadly, the biggest clip is most of their live singing together with Kim ChanWan. The singing is great, but I guess you'd have to watch the small clips to hear them all talking.
