The group prefers handheld mics over headset units as it gives them better control. They do sing live but they also use a low background track, as occasionally necessity demands that they use their arms to maintain the integrity of the choreography. In those cases they do sacrifice the vocal for the choreo.

BLACKPINK don't lipsync. They always sing live but they also have a backtrack for the performances where they are dancing and singing at the same time. The vocals on the backtrack are turned down really low except for certain strategic parts where the phrases are long and they need more breath or the choreography is intense.

[I hope Rachel and Chris get to read this] I was honestly a bit surprised they weren't able to tell the voices were live. I've seen A LOT of musician KZbinrs react to BLACKPINK and they *instantly* acknowledge them and commend them for singing live. It's pretty obvious. Whenever it's Jennie's part you always hear 2 voices. Whenever Rosé and Jisoo sing, you can distinctively hear 1 loud voice and 1 silent but lower pitched voice (which is pretty normal because a person's voice can typically sound a bit higher live compared to the studio track). Lisa's voice also cracks a few times especially in the end when she sings "One. Two!". There are several reasons why these 2 doubt that they're singing live but the most probable reasons could be: 1.) They're just not used to artists singing live well. I could tell they're huge skeptics. Well in Kpop, these vocalists train for YEARS not only in technique but in breath control in order to sing stable while doing crazy choreography. Choreo has become sort of necessary in Kpop and so each Kpop artist is also expected to sing live proficiently while dancing. You don't see that around the West anymore. 2.) They haven't heard the track or seen the music video beforehand so they have no idea what the studio version sounds like and therefore no basis as to determine if they sing live or not. 3.) They just don't know BP that much yet lol 😅 Among all groups in Kpop, BLACKPINK is one of the most consistent in live vocals. They don't sugarcoat and tune them. And while there may be some groups that you may prefer the vocal flavor more, you can always count on BP to not fake their vocals. There are other big groups that get flack for suspicions on not singing live and I can assure you BP is never in those discussions 😅

@Vince Andrei Retutal BLACKPINK don't pretend to sing either. If it's a backtrack singing, they let us know that it's the backtrack because their lips don't move. When their lips move, it's them singing. They don't hide it. I've seen several performances where that happened.

I feel like the line "We were born to be alone, but why we still looking for love" summarizes the song pretty well. It's not that they're sick of love, but they're yearning for love. The lyrics are about the pain of love, but in the end we still look for it. It goes, "love is a drug that I quit" but then it's still "no doctor can help when I'm lovesick". "I don't care, I'll do it over and over" Some of the lyrics are pretty sad cus it talks about the pain we experience. But yeah, in the end it's what we all do, after we're hurt by love, we still look for love and we choose to love again. Yes they sing live, they always do. Sometimes with the help of backtrack as they do sing and dance a lot. I find they get accused of lip-synching a lot because they sound almost the same in their recorded versions as their lives, but when you get used to their voices you can tell the difference. Yes to their outfits as well! Always. All 4 of them are global ambassadors for different luxury brands, LISA for CELINE, ROSÉ for YSL, JENNIE for CHANEL and JISOO for DIOR. (Among their other endorsements)

it was live but there was a delay in transmission since they were actually in S. Korea performing with the signal sent to the Kimmel show. There is a backtrack that they are singing over. There is so many M/Vs, live performances from Korean TV, concert videos, dance practice videos, Lisa has her own dance routine videos, Jenni, Rose' and Lisa solo performances, cover songs, their streaming concert from 1/21 that has many changes (dance and lyrics) to their songs called "The Show". They also have numerous videos about their personal lives and how they were formed. Also had a reality Tv show called "Blackpink House". They also appeared on several Korean game shows. Lisa was a mentor on a Chinese dance competition series. They all are ambassadors from top clothing and jewelry lines. Once you go down the Blackpink hole you will be truly amazed. On another note, check out , Jessi, a female Korean rap artist that pushes the Kpop industry with her do not care attitude, she is originally from NY, and her parents still live in New Jersey.

If the goal is to hear them live I would not recommend watching a tv/music show performance like this one as this is meant to sound exactly like the album version (ie highly produced w a backtrack). To get their true essence as live musicians you should check out concert performances which are much better, more energetic and they sing over a live band. I recommend anything from Coachella, Tokyo Dome or their cover of “Sure Thing”. Trust me, it will clear up any uncertainty

basically Kpop idols (soloists/groups) always sing live except for occasional lipsync when singing live on stage is not possible. Kpop idols are all trained for singing, dancing and performing for years (some may even up to 10 years) before they debut. singing live while dancing is a part of the training. glad you've enjoyed Blackpink's music so far and it is only the beginning of your Blackpink journey if you 2 find it interesting enough to carry on. the girls are called the biggest girl group in the world (not just the Kpop world) not for no reason.

Every Kpop artist trained for atleast 3 years to sing live while dancing, they trained to singing, dancing, rapping, performance and everything to be perfect. I guess you just new to Kpop world. They're the number one girlgroup on the planet, they didn't get there by lip-syncing their way through live/stage performances. With few exceptions we in the west just aren't used to hearing vocals that aren't autotuned to the extreme so when reactors first experience kpop they often think autotune/lipsync. Great Reaction Rachel + Chris! On BlackPinks 'Lovesick Girls' and 'Forever Young' they are giving a shout out to Cyndi Lauper! On 'Forever Young' It's at the end of the song 'Girls Just Want To Have Fun' vibes! BlackPinks does use a small backing track but if they have to they can belt it out without it! Case and Point some award shows like Inkigayo don't allow backing tracks when they win an award and BlackPink just belts it out and usually they are just goofing around but their vocals are loud and clear! They’re performing in front of the production crew and the camera guys, and that’s it. There’s just no energy.
