One time when I was young stressing about writing a term paper, I bemoaned the fact that “I’m just not creative.” God spoke to me that time an said “I’m the creator of the universe and I live inside you. How dare you say you’re not creative.” To this day, that was the harshest thing God ever said to me. I answered that I wouldn’t ever say that again, but I wasn’t going to lie. 😂

Yesssss!!!! I’m listening for my 13 year old daughter. The songs that come out of her are so so precious because she hasn’t been “influenced” to think that a song has to look or sound a certain way. I will definitely be sharing this with her to help her as she learns the “formula”, she also needs to stay true to the music God gives her. Not every song is supposed to be a hit on the radio or sung in churches. But God’s creativity is vast and He wants us to explore as much as we can of it!

Loved this episode Rita ❤. Your opinions on songwriting and culture are superior on this and so appreciated. Very thought provoking. The painting aspect is interesting. This was something Ed Sheeran had never done before and his past few albums he has done all of his own art work on them. I agree when you’re an artist there are so many different layers to that. I recall Dolly Parton saying she would tap out melodies all the time with just her nails. Thank you!! Love 💕 you so much!! ❤

This is so so good and I can't wait for the next two podcasts on this. I'm 41 now and wrote my first true song when I was 10 from a scripture on the cover of a Christian magazine. It ended up being on a worship album when I was in my teens along with another one I wrote. I released a studio EP 10 years ago and I long to write more, but I always get so far and then feel stuck. I'm a worship leader and I have such a desire to write songs for the Church to sing, but I don't care about being well known or anything like that...just want to know how to move past feeling stuck. So yeah, really looking forward to hearing more from you on this topic!

Rita, Nothing to do with anything, but I was watching a YT video by Aimee Nolte. She is a singer song writer w a YT channel. The video was on Carol King and the fact that she has written hundreds of songs. At the 9:50 minute mark, she mentions a song that Carol King wrote called, UP ON THE ROOF. In 1962, THE DRIFTERS recorded and released the song. Of course it was a hit. But Aimee said something interesting. Originally Carol King wanted to call the song, IN THE SECRET PLACE. The song is about when she (Carol) is tired of life's problems, she goes up on the roof (the secret place) and that's where all her fears just fly "out into space". This reminds me of Psalm 91: HE THAT DWELLS IN THE SECRET PLACE OF THE MOST HIGH SHALL ABIDE UNDER THE SHADOW OF THE ALMIGHTY. And verse 5: THOU SHALT NOT BE AFRAID FOR THE TERROR BY NIGHT... Don't ask me why, but I thought of you when I saw this. So... here is the link if you wanted to view it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jXS1gXWap72KnKssi=B57wYKyY68xg963Y (9:50 mins in)

Defender is one of my favorite songs that encourage my heart for the Lord! Also the one you did with Nicole Binion. Love them all, actually! 🫶✨🌻
