Nick Cave is a genius musician; so original, in a world not frequently touched by novelty

Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds are one of the most important bands and greatest live acts of our time

There is deep meaning in the lyrics, if you make yourself familiar with the Bible you can suss out much of what inspires Nick's writing. The Red Hand Files, his email dialogue with fans, is a good place to understand how he thinks and works. His book Faith Hope and Carnage is a must read. Nick Cave just keeps getting better and better with every new album!

@@XRaySpex000 Oh, it's fine, either he's preaching or just trying to tell people to be good, I still feel the same way about organized religion, and music that spreads the gospel, so to speak. I've had deeply religious relatives (not Christians), who just did their thing, prayed and lived according to their faith. They never, preached, never harmed anyone, they just tried to be good to people, their family and others. If I had any questions, I could ask and get answers that were according to their understanding, but still not preachy. Yeah, music that is based on Christian beliefs, or any other religion, isn't my thing.

Thanks for the quick analysis of the newly released single! I’m personally a big fan of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. And what has struck me since the tragic death of Arthur (his son), is how he experiments/blends genres more often than before. But he has always been a true artist, in the fact that he evolves dramatically throughout his career. Listen to Tupelo, Do you Love me, Papa won't leave you, Henry, Where the wild Roses grow, Into my Arms, Magneto and the second half of Ghosteen. Not always melodic, but the style and context has changed so many times in the course of 40 years. I can confidently say that this band is the most underrated/niche rock band ever. I would note that his narratives are normally more inviting/less cryptic then on the latest release, so don't hesitate to dive in!

The songs mentioned were meant as examples on the concept of change throughout his career. I personally find so many of his songs enjoyable, so I will list album recommendations instead. The good son, Henry's dream, let love in, murder ballads, the boatman's call, no more shall we part, push the sky away, skeleton tree and ghosteen. I hope you find the same appreciation in discovering this band. Enjoy and thanks for the vid! @@letstalksong

Just listened to the first three songs of The Good Son and it’s really haunting, songs that invite you to listen to them several times. Thanks for that broad palette of recommendations 🤩

He said this track is the central hub of the record. Musically and narratively. It's why its so wacky, the rest of the record directly connects

It's somehow comforting to learn that the girl from Jubilee Street wasn't actually murdered by Ray Winstone.

I really enjoyed this, thank you. At first I thought it might be a bit courageous to wade into Nick Cave apparently mostly blind, since there's a lot of history (to the band and to his approach to songwriting) and quite a dedicated fandom, but I think your obvious enthusiasm, openness and analysis made this a very fair hearing. Nick Cave has also done a bit of writing on the topic of songwriting, maybe his 'The Secret Life of the Love Song' might be interesting to you, although it's a bit dated at this point, and I think he's evolved quite a bit in the interim. Now I kinda wanna hear your take on a Birthday Party song :D

Who is the girl from Jubilee Street and where is Jubilee Street - its a hint. I find it, that most of Nick Caves Music and Lyrics is about Human Nature and how we come to terms with pain in life. I have found big relief in Nick Caves Music.

I'm not sure what kind of songwriting teacher you are, or how your opinion would matter to Nick Cave (or how we listen to his songs), but there's nothing strange here. A bit of knowledge about rock music would lead you to the obvious reference: British Folk Rock. If you need a direct link, consider Jethro Tull's album "Warchild," where one of the songs is literally this one. I'm not expressing hate here, really; I had never heard of you before. I just arrived from Google and was surprised to find a video for this song since it's very new. However, the first few minutes really threw me off. I really think that for a "songwriting teacher," this video is very weak, sorry

I find it refreshing to hear young voices and reflections, that haven't inhaled every Album of them and also didnt grow up with the last decades of music making. Where do we go, if we play the 'if been here first and I know more because I have older references points' game. I love his enthusiasm and clear musical ear and ability to analyse and reflect. Possibly connecting a younger audience with their music. I'm pretty sure Nick & co would be all for that.

I absolutely love Nick Cave. He had such an amazing evolution as a musician. You should absolutely check out The Birthday Party. It's his old work, and it's absolutely dark, demented and angry, but it's complete poetry in its own way. Completely recommended. Check out "Sonny's Burning" or "Nick the Stripper" if you're interested. Both great songs.
