So, the Vien food and viewa are the quiet journey of Christmas. The OPERA haus, I would need to visit for the joy of sitting in a history of the haus having had the greatest sounds through given decades. Those bells in the distance are what I have felt America need to hear as part of the life daily journey. Lovely Hotel Sacher...the cake, oh my!

It is a truly beautiful hotel, and the whole staff is so nice! They always have a couple of doormen, but at that moment they were both very kindly assisting other clients with bags and, in the case of the gentleman outside, helping him get a taxi and giving him recommendations for visiting the city! 😊✨

Don’t fall for this tripe from a would-be influencer who can’t even pronounce “Sacher” correctly, and who is over-impressed by frills that seasoned travelers don’t care about. I travel frequently around the world at the high end, and stayed here in 2022. I don’t recommend it to average travelers who aren’t celebrities or Austrian aristocrats. The heating/cooling system is the antiquated 2-pipe kind, giving you effectively no control over your room temperature. In November the building was on Heat. Buildings generate a lot of heat from lights, kitchens, and machinery, so my room was uncomfortably warm and turning the thermostat down was ineffective. Housekeeping pretended not to know they have a 50-year old HVAC system. The only solution left to me was to open the windows. This got the room down to a tolerable temperature but then I spent the night listening to drunks on the street below. You would think that a hotel of this stature could get drunks rounded up by the police, but the management apparently don’t care. The staff are snooty and entitled. I was charged for two breakfasts on my first day when I had only one. When I brought this to their attention, there was no apology or follow-through. I had to ask later whether they had fixed the over-charge, and the front desk gave me the impression that “Well, if you’re bothered by an overcharge of a mere 60 €, you’re not our kind of People, but here’s your lousy 60 € bill correction.”
