After all, it did seem a little coincidental that he built the Death Egg after the events of Sonic 1. (surely, he'd have been building the Death Egg before Sonic 1 and it's clear he was searching for the Chaos Emeralds in order to power it) So, what if the abducted animals from West Side Island were taken to South Island so they could take part in finding the emeralds there as well as try to get in Sonic's way? Personally, the idea makes sense. Could also show how Sonic opened up to Tails so quickly.

Yep, I was a ripe 5 years old and my parents brought out their Sega MegaDrive from their childhood.

I got the game gear first, then I saw the Genesis version and a year later I would earn a European Saturn and a copy of Sonic jam, allowing me to see the full trilogy at (during this time) it's best it ever was. Still could never figured out how to get the chaos emeralds to work in 1 or 3, the fickle controls made special stages really hard to do

i used to have a sega genesis and it took me pretty long to go through that zone but not the sega genesis collection on ps4 and i recommend it. cuz it's way easier/btw it also lets you rewind mistakes by holding ZL and fast forward with ZR

If you think Robotnik is stressed out here than just look at Sonic Mania. He pulls what was previously a final boss in the FIRST ZONE. And then by the end of the game you can tell he’s literally gone insane thanks to the Phantom Ruby making him power hungry as well as failing to defeat Sonic again and again.

Can't blame Pedro on that front. The Special Stages in Sonic 1 for the Chaos Emeralds and the Special Stages for the Time Stones in Sonic CD were too overly complicated to do in game and as such would've taken too much time to pull off. Pedro decided to pull from the Master System/Game Gear version of Sonic 1 for the Chaos Emeralds and simply had the UFOs from Sonic CD simply show up in the area and have them contain the Time Stones.
