It does look unfinished towards the end, the conveyor belts and what seems to be a zipline don't work at all. There are portions if scaffolding that the developers seemingly don't want you to see. The boss has no sound effects at all! Most of these were fixed in the 2013 remake, but it was probably still unfinished in the original. Maybe that's why they decided to make Flying Battery in S3, maybe they wanted a second shot at making an airship themed level.

Oh wow I never knew you could do that in Sonic 2, I had the code for Sonic 1 when I was a kid. I had to beat this game legit back in the day and it took me over a year to finally get past this stage and Death Egg Zone. That memory might as well be carved into stone, I'll never forget it :D

0:17 would've made a shortcut that would've skipped the majority of the bar section...just jump over that platform make another jump that makes u fly around the fan platform

Little tip for all if you hit that 1st cannoneer and do a hard jump press the propeller will shoot you straight up to skip that bugged platform spot in the beginning and if you do it to the T you will save about 20-30seconds at best. Also at the tail of the ship if you hit the speed boost and are going fast enough you can projectile right to the boss, completely skipping the cascading floors part too but it requires pixel perfect timing to one of the 3 floating rings to land on instantly hitting jump on impact then hard holding right iirc.

There /is/ actually 2 acts. Sky Chase is Act 1, and Wing Fortress is Act 2. Also, I remember realizing that you /can't/ fly under there, but also discovering a Tails-only shortcut that allowed me to circumvent that.

The hook that lifts you down is similar to the one in Flying Battery Zone in Sonic & Knuckles*. Also, the part where you grab onto sections of the ship is similar to Hydrocity Zone in Sonic 3*. *I know that Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles can be combined into Sonic 3 & Knuckles aka Sonic 3 Complete but I just wanted to be precise with the games I'm talking about.
