(In Classic or Anniversary mode) Enter debug mode and spawn in a super sonic monitor to defeat it. Best part is, debug mode doesn’t disable achievements! Here’s how you can enter debug mode: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a6iZk6B6irupirM Note: Knuckles has a lower jump height than Sonic which makes this fight a tad bit more challenging as Knuckles. If you would like the absolute easiest way to ensure you never get hit, attack the Robot when he falls or standing to hit under his claws.

If people are still having issues with timing the hits for the main boss hit him when he takes each step it usually gives the same open window to attack. Hope this help :)

Or in my case when he us not moving. So i just wait for him before he lunches himself to space or when he lands and that’s the only time i will hit him. Its not the fastest option but it pretty easy.

For Rookies, if your struggling, if you’re trying this game for the very first time or you don’t remember ‘cause it’s been years or just have bad timing and coronation, I recommend anniversary mode and try to hit Eggman’s Robot at least 2 times in the belly the very first time, then you could just follow the pattern and hit him once every time he is about to rocket boost of the stage, its safer, and you’ll beat the level in about like five minutes. take your time. you can win. its not impossible or it’s not a contest how fast you beat him as long as you do 🤙🏻 you have 9 mins or so to beat him.

Honestly, the best strategy I've found if you're just aiming to beat him and not go for any time-based achievement is to simply not bother attacking him when he's advancing, only attacking him 1) right at the beginning as he's straightening up 2) when he straightens up just before flying and 3) when he leans forward after landing again. It's much much easier to time those jumps and hits than it is when he's walking and trying to make sure that not even a single pixel of his spike arms are extended beyond his belly. It'll take a bit longer to beat him, having to wait for each of those moves, but it's significantly less frustrating.

Really stuggled with this as Knuckles, so what I did was just only hit Eggman right after he drops, it might take longer this way but found it so much easier as the timing isn't as strict as trying to get a hit when the spikes aren't in the way, did it on my first try this way.

For Silver Sonic, you can defeat him in 15 seconds. Position yourself under him, pointing towards left. Use Spindash when he's on you, and you can get 4 hits easily. Then, quickly go left and then jump on him 4 times when he's on the left. Boom, done

I just do a surefire casual way, since I know its combos: 1 bounce off on the right (1). Go to left and jump over. 1 bounce on the left (2). Walk and duck as it dashes right (3). Walk and duck as it dashes left (4). 1 bounce on the left (5). Go to middle, it jumps over. 1 bounce on the right (6). Go to left and jump over. 1 bounce on the left (Final).

Didn’t know that when you run all the way towards the end of the screen, his arms won’t hurt you. Now I REALLY can’t WAIT to beat Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for the VERY first time in my life! Thank you for this guide, I got so MAD a week after this came out and played this, then I was just done and decided to take a break on this game. You wanna lure the Death Egg into the corners of the stage as much as possible. Wait until the reticle starts to beep, then run away to where you are close enough to jump onto the Death Egg's head, but not to where he can step on you and kill you. Aim for the head ONLY, not the body, as the video stated. I used this single technique of luring Robotnik into the corners to my advantage and beat him only by jumping on the head of the robot. It does take longer but is a much more surefire way to defeat the final boss.

Really helpful and very well edited video! I'd add to hold the action button because if the jump is not high enough, you get hit. MECHA SONIC Hit it three times, go back. Hit it 2-3 times on the left side when he unrolls. It then starts rushing and you can hit it again. When it comes back to the left you can finish him before he starts shooting spikes. DEATH EGG ROBOT Hold the action button to hit it when the arm in the background starts going backwards. When you're hitting it, press back to make the move safer. You can hit it easily when it's ready to take off. When it comes down you can hit it after dodging its move. After launching its two arms forwards, you can spin dash and jump to hit it.

Yeah that's also a good point. You'll clip through the body and hit his hands. Jumping high enough was common sense to me to avoid the spiked hands, but I realize now that not everyone might know that so I should have included that

The death egg robot has a third attack that only happens if you are behind him. He will fire bombs out of jetpack.

Worst idea by team sonic not giving gamer one single ring for two fights in a row. In the original version you have no unlimited lives or continues, so it's very frustrating if you go game over so close to end and restart the whole game. I love this game, but not giving some rings here is bad design.

For anyone struggling trying to do this strat with Knuckles it's because it won't work with his jump height. There's a completely different strat for him. Yes! Good point. Knuckles has a lower jump height which does make this fight a bit harder. I think this strategy still works as long as you don't hit the Robot during his walk cycle and attack him when he lands. I think that's still the easiest way personally, despite not being the fastest.

@@StickmanGuides yes. I actually had no problem playing. It also has a save system for sonic 1 and 2 so loading a state took less than 1 second, making it easier.Aside from S3&K it has also Knuckles in sonic 2 and 1 plus additional artwork. Pretty good if I had to say!

As initially frustrating this fight was and trust me it was very frustrating I eventually found a way to make the fight a lot easier when he gets to the point where he does the lock on attacke just keep waiting for him to do that attack and hit him there it's the safest time to hit him sure its slower but it makes the boss immensely less frustrating when you only hit after that lock on attack

Here’s something I found out while doing it (they are a bit risky I wouldn’t recommend but I did them) when he goes to fly if you are fast enough you can get 2 hits in and after he does the arms you can run in and hit him again

main difference i noticed is that in the original sonic 2 after wing fortress once you got to the death egg zone, you kept however many rings you had once you got to the death egg, but if you died it put you at 0. kinda lame it forces you to start at 0 on origins

The easiest way to defeat him is to have him target you with a small distance between you and the wall (about 3 background columns distance) and have him land with his back to you. If you avoid the bombs two times then you can hit him on his jet pack without having to worry about his claws. You could hit him like five times in one sitting while he walks away from you. Just jump over the fire part.

I never could be Death Egg from Sonic 2 back on the Wii. And now it's pretty easy as you just don't attack him when he's walking. You wait until he falls down and his belly plops over. And then if you are lucky, you can get a 2nd shot after he throws his 2nd arm. And then just wait until he falls down again. It's funny how they rigged this boss up to be hard if you don't know the tricks.

I can not believe so many people have issues with this fight. It's genuinely interesting. 10-year-old me is proud of himself for knocking it out around the 3rd try (patterns). Great memories in the early 90s when I beat this thing with my friends watching. Everyone went nuts at the ending, and we all lost our minds with the discovery of Super Sonic in subsequent playthroughs. I'm glad I'm part of the generation that first played this game. @AlexHidanBR I did. It took longer because you have to hit him under his tummy. This isn't difficult. I can see if y'all were talking about Yellow Devil in Megaman. Or anything in Battletoads. Sonic games weren't meant to be difficult. They were meant to be accessible and there was always the added bonus of flexing through zones, but you didn't have to be able to do that to beat any of the core games.

I used the strategy that basically just abused the frames of animation before he flew you can hit him two times before he preps his flight when he flies don't hit him you'll always die and then used your strat of bouncing on his head when he lands so basically every time he did it and without fail I got 4 to 5 hits on him during this. I basically played the waiting game cause as a child I utterly despised this fight and would find the easiest approach now I never not use it out of habit lol. Great video mate

I’ve been a big 3-D sonic fan since sonic adventure but never played the original 2-D games until recently when I got origins. I didn’t wanna look anything up and wanted to learn on my own like most people probably did back in the 90s, no problem through any of the games until sonic 2 with the death egg robot, I did not realize you could hit above the arms so I was trying to beat him just by hitting him in the crotch which you can do anytime his legs are together. I came close to beating him a few times, but it was very unlikely that I was going to be able to until I saw this video, and realize I can hit above the arms and then I beat him on the third attempt.

I just beat Sonic 2 just a moment ago and I could not for the life of me figure out why I was phasing through him randomly when attacking. Doesn’t help with the fact I was playing this on the genesis, I think that might be the most stressful boss fight for me (out of all the sonic games on the genesis)
