I prefer this version to act 1. I love when each instrument methodically gets isolated. It makes you appreciate the individual parts to the composition, and the composition is so good that each individual part is worthy of its own song. A true accomplishment since everything I mentioned is about a video game song from the 90s

Sega really knew how to take advantage of the Genesis’ sound hardware. Idc how inferior the Yamaha YM2612 was to the SNES hardware. The Genesis’ music was always iconic and will always be.
@andyukmonkey4 жыл бұрын
I'm not even sure it is inferior even if it is older tech. The Snes soundchip is a step away from synthesised sound and with a few bells and whistles but is severly limited by being inside a 16 bit console with little RAM. It's also limited by what samples the game studios could actually get into the games. I bet a lot of Snes game music consists of samples from synthesisers anyway.
@Automatik2343 жыл бұрын
@@andyukmonkey I wouldn't call it inferior, but rather different. Both chips have their pros and cons and their differences make them distinctive and lead to both chips still being remembered today.

@@Automatik234 Yeah, In recent years I realised they're just two different ways to get the same results. People can pick apart small differences if they want to but i'm sure 99% of music on one machine could be converted over to the other with 99% accuracy.

I like how of all the themes in this game, this is one where they were like “instead of making a slightly different song in Act 2, just replay Act 1 but mute some of the channels and highlight certain channels at different times to get a new experience with the exact same song cuz we ain’t doing any better than this :V”
@aerodynamo48742 жыл бұрын
I like how that's the exact same idea they had for both the Micheal Jackson team and the initial composers who made the Beta tracks (the ones in Sonic Origins).
@Axxidous2 жыл бұрын
@@aerodynamo4874 I actually just finished playing Origins throughout 4 different live streams on the channel called The Hedgehog Zone. But when I get to this stage, you'll hear this theme instead. lol A lot of people prefer this version of the tracks but some people prefer the Prototype music (Beta game version, not PC version obviously) but took issue with how they were constructed in Origins. So there's actually a simple mod for the PC version of Origins that switches the music back to the MJ tracks as well as a mod that switches the Origins tracks back to their more glorified Beta forms. For that, you can look up the channel called Overdash.

***** To extend this topic. They could have released some more levels as DLC for Generations quite easily. I haven't played the 3DS version so unsure what levels are in that, but I'd love to have seen Ice Cap, Mystic Caves, Mushroom Hill, Angel Island, Flying Battery and Death Egg. A few more levels from Sonic CD, like Stardust Speedway, Quartz Quadrant and Metallic Madness (complete with shrink rays) on top of the very awesome Metal Sonic fight would have also been awesome to see. I'd also love more classic bosses recreated including Mecha Sonic from Sonic 2. So much more they could do with this... I wonder if we will get a Sonic Generations 2? lol

FYI Sonic 3 works as a separate game because although its story links in with Sonic and Knuckles in a crucial way, it is long enough, and does have a story complete enough to stand alone.

@@mehdinaitlho6019 yeah lol i'm cringing so hard at what i originally wrote. i was a dumbass pseudo intellectual thinking i wrote something deep. sonic 1 sucks but it paved the way for 2, 3 and mania so i give it a pass, a VERY generous pass.

@@PushingUpTrollss ahahaha didn't expect an answer 11 years later that's funny and yeah I agree Sonic 1 has the merit to be the game which set the bases for the series, but having only really played it fully last year, of course I'm biased by today's standards 😭 unrelated but your comment is 11 years old that's wild ! did you try to have a sort of retrospective on where you were in life and where you are now? if not, that's a cool chance of doing so, it's always very nice to look back at the progress we made and I'm happy to have given you this opportunity completely randomly 😂 I'm 20 years old so 11 years ago I was a little 9 year old kid so I assume you're older than me 😅 Internet is the best really

@@PushingUpTrollss Oh my goodness I did not expect to see a recent reply. I remember when people hated Unleashed alot back then and everyone thought we would get more games like Generations.

I'm still very much into Sonic the Hedgehog games as much as I was in the 90s, and I was real good at it, too lol. On the music note, it's a shame that many games in today's generation don't have excellent theme songs like this, as well as in the 90s as a whole. ~Trav.~

I wonder what a modern version of this would’ve sounded like if it were in sonic generations

This is a testament to Michael Jackson's composing ability. No matter what anyone says about him, they CAN NOT say that he didn't do a damn good job with this game's music.

Did Sonic 3 have a generations level? Or was it combined w/ Sonic & Knuckles? It's a shame. Generations was a decent idea, but we ended up with way too many city levels (day city, night city, foreign city, city on fire...)

Act 2 sounds more cold and isolated, it's amazing how much a few subtle instrument changes can alter the feeling.
