Holy shit, that event editor is insane. I just know someone's going to to in and redo everything in SA2 with hand-animation instead of mocap. I'd love to see someone do the same in SA1 but I doubt it's possible, due to how SA1 doesn't actually have specific cutscene animations but instead just pulls pre-made animations in a certain order.

I’m a bit late to this but… Dude, Justin, this gave me CHILLS. I can’t wait to see what you and the modding community are capable of. I’ve been hoping SA1 and especially SA2 could have a modding scene akin to the Super Mario 64 does, and this could be it. An entire visual reworking of Adventure 2 could well be possible with this, from animations, to camera angles, the whole thing! Thanks so much for what you do, this is incredible.

The work you and End User have achieved here is beyond incredible. The new tools look very user friendly, and I appreciate you not leaving older users in the dust. And the event editor. My goodness, the event editor. The amount of potential this has could warp the fabric of reality. (Or just make funny memes, lol) I also greatly appreciate the promise of full documentation for the add-on. This will lower the barrier of entry for up-and-coming modders, which is a very good thing. Chao in Space 2 was also a wonderful treat, and I especially loved Chao Egg-man, and how well the logo synced up with the music. Great stuff. The video itself is also very well edited, and the intro and in-between animations look great. Hats off to you and End user, and to a new generation of modders and mods your work will surely spawn!

You are such one of my inspirations! Wish someday could escape code hell, and start making my own projects. How did you started in making games? I just know JS, Python and SQL, where should I start to learn how to make games as yo do? Which was your roadmap and how many years did take you to get to this level? loves your work ♥♥
@Justin113D8 ай бұрын
Woah, that's quite a lot of questions, but i'll try to answer them: - I myself started game dev with unity in 2017, but imo that was a bad decision, as i had a complete misunderstanding of several programming concepts because of that. I'd personally say try and get a good hold of a programming language first, before trying to create a full game - As for how i started making games: I simply started with Sonic Chronicles Reimagined, as the task of trying to come up with my own stuff was too daunting at the time. I instead wanted to have a "template" where i could guide myself along, and chose Sonic Chronicles for that. That way i could verify that my programming was approaching the "correct" result, instead of just saying "its not working, but its fine as is" and leaving stuff in a potentially unfinished and/or broken state (that was my reasoning anyway) - I never really had a roadmap :'D I just did what i had fun doing, which is probably why so many projects on my end are only progressing slowly - I've been doing this stuff in my free time for about about 7 years now, in which i developed fangames, tools, mods and other stuff; I've also done an apprenticeship as a software developer for 3 years and have been employed full time for a year now
@magicalmelissa7 ай бұрын
@@Justin113D Wow you started to do this around the same time I got interested in programming and game dev, but unfortunately I didnt have money to have a decent laptop, so I have to wait until I had budget. That truly damaged me emotionally but doesnt matter, I will try my best to recover the lost time!! interesting, what tutorials would you recommend me to learn c#? Or c++, there is a difference between those two? I mean, it worth the time to learn c++? Thats a great idea! I will take another game as my template too =) What tutorials you would recommend to lean how to use blender? And my final question if you have time, which engine should I choose? You are truly a genius, Im proud of your work and wish someday to be like you!! Wish you the best of luck in your projects
@Justin113D7 ай бұрын
@@magicalmelissa - C++ and C# are very different, and C# is definitely more beginner friendly in many aspects (C++ is a lot closer to the hardware). - Maybe look into this? Looks good to me kzbin.info/www/bejne/fZm0lZ9_e96fh5osi=qbfcu9cBqkOHFN_S - Important note when learning programming: How much you learn depends on how much you program yourself. Don't just Copy paste what is shown in tutorials, but try to experiment and try to do stuff that wasn't explicitly shown in the tutorial, otherwise you will never truly grasp how programming works. - Blender guru has a great tutorial series. I never followed it myself (my blender journey was very unconventional) but i heard its great - Honestly, no idea. -> I am biased to Godot. It's very good for 2D games, and quickly gaining features in other areas as well. It is also open source, so everything you make with it is truly yours, and the engine quickly gaining traction online. -> Unity has a large user base and many tutorials or other resources, but is also very bloated and the company is becoming very consumer-unfriendly. -> Unreal i know the least about, but it has great tools for artists and makes working with visuals very easy, but the coding aspect is a bit weird, as it's done in C++, and most people program in it using "blueprints" (Code done using node graphs), which i personally do not like. It's very much up to you which you choose, and depends entirely on what you want to do. And a personal recommendation: Do not start with an RPG :'D
@magicalmelissa7 ай бұрын
@@Justin113D I see, so I should start learning c or c#? I gonna give it a look, thank you! I learned that the bad way, I have been studying python and JS since 2018, and recently I wanted to start doing programms but... I cant escape programming hell, even doing tutorials of things I wanna do like a space invaders lookalike, it doesnt even work my code. What should I do? Modifying code to change tiny things? How I write own stuff without utilizing other people code? Im gonna check those tutorials, but I have a doubt, do I need to learn how to draw decently before adventuring myself into 3D modeling? I read somewhere that Steam dont let people sell games with open source engines, is that true? I heard about what happened with Unity, ut I still have to learn how to use it, its the only way to make a game for the Nintendo 3DS easily u.u Sooo how different is Godot from Unity? It was quickly for you to adapt? I wouldn't! But why? I want to do mostly speed platformers, and a shooter mixed with adventure genre. By the way, I have always wished to do a Sonic fangame, but differently to most people, I wish to do it from scracth, I know there are frameworks for every engine, but I want to learn from the bone, how Sonic 2D and 3D physics work, how should I start? I love project 06 physics and would love to know how them work =) One last thing, it is worth it to create an engine from scratch?
@Justin113D7 ай бұрын
@@magicalmelissa - I definitely recommend C# instead of C - That is a difficult question, i don't really know if i can even answer that. Modifying code to change tiny things is a good start, but trying to think of your own simple logic with the same building blocks is gonna bring you much further. - Steam does allow open source engines, there are many games made in Godot on steam - Unity and Godot are very different, they use very different ways of approaching code. Yet, I'd still claim that Godot is closer to unity than unreal engine. - Because RPGs are so much code, especially UI code - I honestly have no idea about physics, i never really did anything physics related in any game - Not for your first project. Making an engine from scratch requires a lot of knowledge about the GPU and its inner workings, which you should definitely not start with. Maybe in the future, but keep in mind that making the engine itself will be majority of the work, and the actual game only a minor bit of work in comparison.

Is it possible to rip from other dreamcast games such as ready 2 rumble? How do you even create such tools to begin with? This video is a year old already, Sonic Chronicles Reimagined has had a big push since! We've managed to port everything relevant over to Godot, reprogrammed our Translation and Dialog editor tools and finished ingame menus that were previously left unfinished. However, with the release of Shadow Generations, i *really* wanted to mod it, and when getting into the scene noticed that there were no proper tools for editing models and started working on a blender addon for Hedgehog engine, which i am still working on as we speak.
