You know what I think the saddest part about Gamma is? No one even knows what he did. He didn’t die some grandiose death for some world-saving cause while everyone looked on and remembered him as a hero; he died saving only the animals in him and his brothers, and not a single person knows what he sacrificed. He died an insignificant, unremembered death, and none of the other characters know what he went through. Not even Eggman knows that Gamma betrayed him. Heck, even the flicky that powered him probably can’t comprehend what happened. He died unmourned and unknown.

I think the bird knows. I mean, it knew him the best, and it is implied they sorta share a consciousness in some capacity. At the very least, the bird knows that he freed it.

Knowing that adds even more weight to his story. He had saved his brothers and freed the flickies within, dying alone, aware no one would know and so no one would mourn him. That's the pinnacle of altruism. That altruism is so much more meaningful when it is demonstrated in a robotic vessel, one that is expected not to know the emotional value behind actions and moral standpoints, and demonstrates just how much Gamma breaks the mould. Gamma died a happy death, having made a friend, and sacrificing his life for what he believed to be the right cause. He may not have had a conscious impact on any of the characters, but that will never take away from the fact that Gamma was an incredible soul who did the right thing, against the laws of his vessel.

Omega essentially functions as a spiritual successor to Gamma, being a red/yellow/silver/black bipedal robot whose major goal is to destroy Eggman’s robots after gaining some form of free will. The key differences are that Omega wants to kill Eggman’s robots out of contempt and anger whereas Gamma does it out of mercy, and Gamma’s goal was only focused on “saving” the robots that were sentient while Omega wants to kill all of them. ...hang on, if Omega is technically part of the E-100 line, wouldn’t that mean he has a flicky inside of him?

I love how here Tikal describes Chaos as "A very loving and gentle creature." In the Japanese version, Chaos was a mutated Chao. He mutated because he fed off of too much Chaos energy. So it makes sense he would care for and protect the rest of the Chao since he gained the power to do so. He wants to make sure his friends and family are all safe. Also I came here to see which robot showed fear and looked to Gamma for help when being beamed away.

I love the musical progression of gamma, his main theme at the start is filled with synths and electronic instruments drowning out the organic piano, but after gamma dies, the bird is free and the music reflects that with the brass and piano, now free of the electronic instruments

If the story caught you then he should never comeback as it would completely throw away the tragic impact. If you make a dead character comeback then his death have no effect anymore i think. Same goes for Shadow, his fate would've been way more impactful if he weren't reused at every game after his death for dumb reasons

The game was shot in 4:3, but since these cutscenes are made in real time, they can be displayed in any aspect ratio. You'll notice that overlays still only do 4:3. Without the widescreen glitch, the models would already be offscreen by the time they disappear. They're unloading to save space.

I will always love E-102 Gamma To his design, story, and voice and I like how he doesn't appear in any other canonical games because his story is finished even if it was a bittersweet conclusion I also love how Gamma is emotionless but is expressive and he isn't the type of robot that wouldn't attack you unless there's a reason It's a shame people don't really bring up Gamma and just confuse him for Omega

heres an alternate version of gammas ending: gamma, managing to survive his battle with beta, collapses. one unit remaining. e-102 gamma. looking at his hands, he realizes... he does not wish to die. he's gained a soul, that's his alone, but neither does he wish to be powered through a flickys suffering. remembering amys words, he scans his database. he discovers a young two-tailed fox with intellect rivaling eggmans. perhaps he can safely remove the bird as well as help supply gamma with a safer alternative power source so that both may continue living. damaged, but still able to hover back to the mystic ruins, gamma searches for tails.

​@@DrPonk you forgetting ZERO, who was made as the first installment of E-series - E-100 Alpha. Compared to Zero, Beta IS more advanced. My theory i that Eggman made 3 different robots as the "test subjects": Alpha was the bulkiest robot with insanely strong defences, but little to non AI and simplistic attack patterns; Beta was much more agile model with the most advanced battle equipment (like stronger guns and jet-pack) but still kinda weak AI(before mk2); Gamma, on the other hand, was as agile as beta, but was weaker in him in terms of equipment, while still being much more advanced and developed as AI. Zero was a disappointment from the start, so he became a simple errand boy for Eggman. But Gamma and Beta was both good enough, and doctor decided to pin them against each other: weaker intelligence with guns vs weaker model with the most adaptability. That's why all later robots were modelled after Gamma, not Beta - Eggman decided that good AI is more important than weapons. That's just a theory, mind you. But still, it have a good ring to it.

Given that he was able to call for a missile strike with his vehicle, a signal for Beta to rescue him or attack Tails would be possible.

Not for me atleast, if you find this one deep and sad, more power to ya, but I think the thing I was hyped about this one was the ending, it felt like maybe there was going to be more to the ending after E102 exploded... no. It fades to black right as the two flickies reunite, and I wish they at least flew away together. At least it had Unbound which is a really good song for the ending of the game
