I don’t like how everyone has interpreted the story, that Gamma was the bird. It overlooks that the flickies merely power badniks, but ARENT the robots. I think it brings a lot more weight to think that he wasn’t freed from his robot body, but instead died to free the bird inside of him.
@wistfulanthophila93173 жыл бұрын
i didnt even know people interpreted it that way. its not like the bird controlled the robot the animals are just power sources if they could control the robots they could free themselves that seems obvious

@@wistfulanthophila9317 lol I scrolled down to a comment made about the same time as the OP and I saw someone reply with the "Gamma was the bird" interpretation.
@paragonza75293 жыл бұрын
I agree, absolutely. And what makes it especially problematic is the fact that the flicky inside him is female, so naturally people come to the conclusion "Gamma is female!". A female robot with THAT voice? The narrative would have made such a crucial detail quite obvious early on.
@AliC2023 жыл бұрын
Gamma was the robot not the bird. He knew that, and he knew that wasn’t okay. Its his whole story
@Iainofthemeteor2 жыл бұрын
It's kind of encouraged by the fact Gamma on the surface seems to also interpret it that way, considering his quest is to "rescue" the rest of the E-series by shooting them until they explode... yet he seemingly sees the distinction himself too. (My original interpretation was that he just referred to the birds by the robots' names due to not knowing the names of the birds; although in a way it's entirely possible that if the birds were used to supplement AI, there may be some "hybrid" effect)

that's the sad thing. with Gamma's death, he was forgotten from Sonic's world. the closest we had to someone remembering Gamma was Sonic/Tails (can't remember) saying "Hey, that robot looks like Gamma!" in Sonic Battle. and that's the worst possible timing. not only did A: that robot was a dumb clone, it was also B: 'remembered' by two characters who never even gave a crap about him. Only Amy genuinely cared about Gamma. I understand it's better through plot-line that Gamma remains dead, but I wish SEGA did more to help us know that they, too, genuinely cared about him by doing more that just that shameless Sonic Battle clone.

While I personally think Sonic Adventure 1/DX's story hasn't aged well and is one big camp fest for the most part; there are a small handful of moments that deserve credit and this ending...still gets to me to this day. The fact that Gamma dying at the end manages to get an actual emotion out of me means that the writer at least succeed in one area; that being making me care about one of the new characters. However, this does mean we will never see Gamma ever again. Oh, sure, there is a dream entity pretending to be him in Sonic Shuffle and there are those replicas in Sonic Adventure 2/Battle; but that's the most we will ever see from him again outside of Adventure DX. Speaking of death; may Steve Broadie himself rest in peace. He and Deem Bristow had the best performances in Sonic Adventure DX.

Amy destroy the robot out of rage and made sure all three birds make it off the crash aircraft safely *Meanwhile Prior to Gamma* Just before Amy battle with Zero Gamma has tragedy end his life in order to free one of the birds sibling from within him. I know Sonic games aren't known for their storytelling, and the quality is often hit-and-miss with them. But every once in a while... _damn._ They really knock it out the park with a moment like this. I'd say for its emotional impact, it is perhaps second only to the SA2 capsule scene. But perhaps even more amazing is that they pull it off without dialog. Don't get me wrong - this couldn't have worked without the rest of Gamma's story being equally good. But the emotional heavy lifting is really done here by the music. I mean, I always thought Gamma's piano theme had an undertone of sadness to it, from the moment you start playing as him. I always subconsciously connected this to him being, on some level, _unlovable._ He was never made to be loved - Robotnik only built him to serve a purpose and later be destroyed, either by Sonic and his friends, or broken down for parts when he no longer served that purpose. Born to die, as it were. Likewise, his redemption could only be found in his death. That moment finally happens when the drums die down and the theme plays yet again - no longer cold and mechanical - this time it's evocative of something small and vulnerable, almost human. But like 'Sweet Dream' from the second Sonic game, it is very clearly the music of an ending. It's no less sad when you realise this is exactly what Gamma wanted - in the same way that he knows he has to 'save' the other E-series bots. You know it is not really death but rather _transformation,_ though you can't help but feel as if someone were dying. I am not religious, but I can't help seeing this as a metaphor for a person's soul rising from their broken body. And even though the loss of the body is exactly what allows the pink Flicky to fly free, she is on screen for less than a second. (It's rare for a Sonic game to be this subtle.) And only after watching a series of pictures from Gamma's short but meaningful life, do you finally get to see the bird, happily reunited, with her little yellow friend. I still feel that the pink Flicky _is_ Gamma, in much the same way that a soul _is_ the same person who they were in life, but perhaps both are lacking in some essential trait that defined them in life. Although just as every other character got a picture of themselves enjoying life after the game, Gamma's picture is of the Flicky. So I have to conclude that she (or he? they?) didn't die after all. Then again, I might just be saying that because I can't bear to admit that Gamma is dead. Because if any of the E-series are worth that reaction, it's Gamma. So anyway, let's have a Γ in the chat for the best fictional robot that ever lived.
@GabrylMD Жыл бұрын
The scene is quite masterful for Sonic Adventure standards. The silence and atmosphere in all aspects is something that I don't think people really understand. Very much similar to knowing you are at the end of the line. And the solidarity of the waves being the only noise to accompany the entire scene. It's a criminally powerful scene that I feel needs no more excess to make a point. It ties the theme of being an Eggman Robo perfectly: an almost meaningless existence. To fight as an army, and serve under your creator. It mirrors in most aspects how easily most of Eggman's Robots are dealt with as if they are nothing. And in some vein, enlightens us to understand that in Eggman's egotistical brilliance, he has manifested creations with a degree of autonomy and reasoning. Which is certainly something that is consistently brought up throughout the series proper. The silence speaks volumes, and is a perfect demonstration of telling through showing. It leaves it up to so much interpretation. I honestly find it hard to believe that something this profound was alongside the more simpler stories of Sonic Adventure. Some of them have their moments. But I don't think the thread of the narrative is as nearly consistent as Gammas story. It basically is a full arc, and ends tragically. Like, I get chills whenever he goes over the remaining robots and includes himself among them to 'rescue'. I also believe Gamma's story works so well because it is set up in a world that has all of these pretty innocuous stories. It's a bit like whiplash, but it works because it is thematically a story of solidarity. And is a harsher parallel running alongside the average adventures of Sonic and his friends. Which is something that can be seen adjacent to real-life; the circumstances of ones birth, and the freedoms they are endowed. Gamma's story is perfect. And I'd hate if they did anything to change or retcon it.

I feel like the more older i get, the more i appreciate Gamma's story. It literally made me cry, it's so sad and honestly deep for a Sonic game, it feels more mature and adult than all of the others in SA1. Gamma is the robot, not the bird. He literally killed himself to save the animals, thanks to Amy showing him friendship. It's so sad that he dies without anyone knowing it, at least in Sonic X Amy watches him die... He had a very short life, he will always be my favorite robot in Sonic, by far.

You know, I've always interpreted Gamma as being the bird itself just with his memory wiped. So his entire story was about freeing the other animals without any clear indication as to why he's doing it and when he's destroyed he himself is freed and regained his memories. But I suppose the actual story is that Gamma and the bird are two separate entities and Gamma's final act was to allow himself to be destroyed so that the bird inside of him could be freed.

As a top notch military machine, he was programmed to learn in order to calculate the best decision to perform your duties. However, upon meeting Amy, he was given a question that could not be logically answered according to his design, therefore rendering him incapable of learning.

Then after the credits and you play as Gamma again, he miraculously comes back to life like nothing happened.

Gamma could talk but, I'm so glad they decided to leave dialogue out of that ending. It never words, everything was quite clear.

Two things that only made this scene worse than ever: 1- Gamma was supposed to shoot himself in the end after finishing off Beta 2- Word of God said that Gamma HAD a repair system on-board, he COULD have fixed the damage... But he decided not to

I actually thought this is a sad ending but I see Beta is freeing Gamma like Gamma is freeing Beta

Gamma's story is very emotional and it shows that Amy is such an amazing and caring character that actually sided with Gamma whereas no one else cared about him that's why Amy is such a great character! I hate anyone who hates Amy because they haven't played the Sonic games! She had influenced Gamma a lot! She was the only to change him! That's such amazing character development!
@Simon-Sax2 жыл бұрын
The problem with Amy is that this is the only game where she does and shows more as a character instead of chasing sonic for his blue rod all the time.

You summed it up perfectly! I feel like people who hate Amy just because they’ve never played the Sonic video games don’t appreciate how great of a character she is even though she’s usually following Sonic around.
