I made this whole tutorial as a spontaneous decision in the span of only a day, thinking I'll just record and edit really quick and I'll be done in an evening's worth of work. Ended up spending 12 hours on the thing, 3 of which were recording and 9 editing. (Most of the editing consisted of cutting out "uuuhm"s). And it was supposed to be a quick low effort tutorial, which you can tell by the production quality but unfortunately not by the time it took to make. Who knows how long I would've taken if I actually scripted it and put effort into the production like I did with my Knuckles tutorial

--- ADDENDUM --- CRYSTAL RING My route shown in the tutorial is a bit outdated. Currently, the fastest available route is to skip the crystal ring entirely, and then later do Captain's Quarter's clip (see list of tutorials below) when going to change the ship's shape before Chaos 6. This is ONLY faster with Captain's Quarter's clip because it skips a light dash. If you do not want to do Captain's Quarter's clip, the fastest route is to ignore the crystal ring until before Twinkle Park. After Sky Chase, go to the casino area to activate the Amy cutscene, and then on the way back to Twinkle Park, pick up the crystal ring. the speedrun community is even still constantly coming up with new strats. Just 2 days after I uploaded this tutorial, 2 new skips were found in Twinkle Park

Using this guide to learn! I've been having trouble with casinopolis, until I figured out what was happening: Neither of the examples in this video make sonic jump before attempting the clip, because it's naturally faster that way. If it's more comfortable for you to jump while you learn the trick, procure to always Jump Cancel before trying the clip! This is because sonic has a counter of "hover frames" which depletes when you jump, they check how long sonic can remain in a floaty state, which in this case is obtained through the spindash hover. These are extremely important to getting the trick, and jump cancelling can restore them quickly, making the trick much more consistent. You can hear Nimput's explanation on this during the Speed Highway Segment, at 1:21:35 I went from clearing the gap 1 of 10 times or so, to clearing it 10 of 10 times, which allowed me to learn how to avoid the invisible walls and other collisions 9 times faster.

that moment when you've been running with gpro's tutorial and you realize you basically have to relearn the run xD Also still a rlly good tutorial even with no script etc. That's what we call a EHRENMANN xD

thank you! gpro's tutorial was a great, accessible resource, so if you learned with that you've got a good basis. Having different resources helps a lot to see different variants for strats, or even just different ways of having things explained. Even if some strats may have changed, the basics are still there

I get this is an old video but does the tech in this video work with the steam port of the game?

yes, but the Steam version is a very clunky port and has no support for most of the speedrun community tools. I'd recommend going to the SADX speedrunning Discord in the description and asking there on how to get the best game setup
