Sonic CD - Metallic Madness Past Restored

OMG it took soo long for me to finish this! In fact, for years I have been trying to do higher quality version of MMZ past, but I was never completly satisfect DX one of the things I most like in the original is how the piano mixes up with the rhytm and fantasia, it gives a "spinning movement" that I really love! I'm satisfect with the result I got with this one, so the time I spent was worth ^^
I'm also considering in future releasing a new version, using samples for the piano chords instead of a chord sequence, and increasing a little the pitch so it will sounds more like the game version. Anyway, I hope you will enjoy, until now it was the most hard to do restoration!
If you're interested in knowing where the sounds comes from, here's the list:
Acoustic piano - Roland D70
Electric piano - Roland JD 800
Orchestra hit at start - Korg M1
Orchestra hit at end - X-Static goldmine
Choir - X-Static Goldmine
Bass drum, cymbal, hat and snare at start - Roland TR-909 (I used samples from X-Static Goldmine)
Snare that plays at the end - I don't remember, this is the same snare from Stardust Speedway past and the boss/final boss remix from Sonic The Hedgehog Remix (1994). I have this snare, and what aparents to be some variations of it, but i can't remember where i get it from, some akai libraries I believe.
Fantasia - Roland JD 800 (I've recreated with JD 800 waveforms since I don't have a JD 800)
Organ: Korg Wavestation (but my recreation isn't perfect, is extremely hard to identify the notes used in the organ sample, since are too much and very fast, so I can be wrong, the organ can be from other synthesizer too, but it sounds very similar, i think there's a very considerable chance of being correct)
Bass drum at end - to be honest I could not find the exact same sample, so I replaced for a similar.
Bass - I could not find it :( So i remastered. I removed the noise and tried to recreate the higher frequencies that are losted.

This song feels like the ultimatum of the soundtrack. And that sick organ solo, damn. Even when it gets out of tune at 1:00, it’s done on purpose to add uneasiness to it all in a respectful way. Even though the samples may not be 100% accurate to those found in the original PCM / Ricoh chip, they're so close and SPOT-on they might as well be the uncompressed version, like how a person did with DKC3 GBA's music

I like to imagine Eggman is the one soloing in this one. Where there would be rapping in the present, Eggman takes a keyboard solo. They're saying the same thing, "I'm gonna own you", but the past mix is, for lack of a better term, cooler. While Sonic runs around Eggman's hyper-technological base of operations in a panic searching for the generator, Eggman is so confident that he'll win that he sits with his band of robots and plays a ditty on his keyboard. This is him taunting Sonic. The musical equivalent of "Nanna-nanna boo-boo, you can't catch me".

I don't remember :( Let me explain: I love the instruments and samples of this soundtrack. And some years ago I was like "Ok, now i will try to listen every sample CD that were released in 90's. And then I started searching random 90s sample cds, in various formats (cdda, akai, roland, etc) trying to find those samples lol I spend hours and hours, weeks, months, listening to a loooot of sample cds XD One of the samples I most wanted to find, the main TR-909 snare used in Sonic CD (PPZ bad, TTZ present, SSZ present, SSZ good, MMZ present, CCZ past, QQZ present, final boss and WWZ present), I still could not find :( is really a mistery. One funny thing is: I not only collected samples from Sonic CD, i collected samples that sounded good for me, and 2 or 3 times I was looking into my collection and i was like "wtf, this sample was used in sonic cd, how did I have not noticed it at first??" It happened with the QQZ bad future tom, I was looking for it for years, and it was in my collection XDD I remember i accidentally sometimes found samples I was not looking lol i remember i found a lot of guitar loops that were used in Sonic Battle totally accidentally haha as well the opera samples from sonic advance 3 (actually I was very happy when I found them, i always loved them!)

@@CollisionChaos this is basically my story too. ever since I was a kid I've been on a hunt to find as many classic 90s sample CDs as I could. I've just never been able to find any akai libraries for some reason. if you're still looking for some good tr909 snares I've made a great collection of them using different samples from the Korg M1, the xstatic goldmine, the zero g data files, and a vst of the tr909 drum machine itself itself.

@@mr.megadrive6881 Most part of the akai sample cds I checked I found in AudioZ and a blog called VintageMusicSamples. And thank you! But I think is not necessary, in fact I have all those TR 909 snares you mentioned, but I never could find none that sounds exactly the same of Sonic CD! :( I believe it's from some sample CD we're missing, or is some expansion card for one of the synthesizers or drum machine they used. Even Nights into Dreams and Sonic the Hedgehog Remix (1994), which are in my opinion the 2 most close soundtracks to Sonic CD jp, don't use this snare. Maybe a rare expansion card :( I'm hoping Korg and Roland to release VST emulations of Korg 01/W and Roland D70 and JD -800 and include the expansions cards, I believe we could find many sounds and presets from Sonic CD. If i ever get enough money I will buy those synthesizers too. I'd like one day to create a big library with as much Sonic CD instruments as I can find and release.
