To answer your questions: Sonic Dash+ is the Apple Arcade exclusive, no-micro-transactions version of Sonic Dash, which is an endless runner. Sonic Dream Team is an Apple Arcade-exclusive Sonic platforming adventure. It's pretty great for a mobile 3D platformer, has controller support, and has gotten four updates, the latest of which now gives players a new level every 24 hours (though you only have that time to play it). SEGA owns the Two Point games, so this is sort of just a cross-promotional thing. Glad to see you're getting back into Sonic! Here's hoping this game is as good as it looks.

The team behind Sonic were essentially resigned to the fact that no one cared about Sonic anymore thanks to certain loud voices on the internet, and that's why they kinda just threw Lost World and Forces out there. And then the Sonic movie trailer happened and when so many people were upset about how Sonic looked, it was a wake-up call to the team that people do care about this series, and then the movie did really well and was positively received, and it made Sonic Team start caring about the series again. They saw a light at the end of the tunnel after everyone rejected what they did in the 2000s and created this hollow shell in the 2010s, and they've been working their way through it ever since. And as time has gone on, people have only been appreciating the "dark ages" of Sonic more and more. Shadow is seen as a good game by many now. 06 is seen as a good game but a broken and unfinished one, and there are multiple fan projects working to make it better, such as Legacy of Solaris and Project 06. Secret Rings is seen as missed potential, and just recently Project Reignition has been working to give the game the controls it needed. Unleashed has been viewed in a more positive light for a while now, but people are beginning to appreciate the Werehog more too. Black Knight is even seen as one of the better games in the series now, and so many people love that game. It's insane the turnaround Sonic is having nowadays, not just from SEGA, but from the fans. The core audience of Sonic have found the series. No longer are the most vocal voices "why is Sonic a werewolf? Why does Sonic have a sword? Sonic's useless friends". People are becoming more and more accepting of the fact that Sonic is a series that can do almost anything it wants. And I am here for it. The fact we're in an age where Sonic Central could announce a Shadow the Hedgehog motorcycle helmet, and people aren't reacting with "ahuhu, Edgy the Hedgey, why SEGA make motorcycle helmet for game about blue hedgehog who run fast"... The positivity and hope of the fans nowadays is seen and appreciated by those working on Sonic, and it's never shown more. The fact they allow and sometimes even adopt fan games is proof of that.

Being a sonic fan nowadays is great, the 2010s were miserable but 2022-2024 felt insane and it doesn't feel like they are slowing down any time soon We got the IDW Comics expanding the sonic universe, Sega wanting to give the games much more time AND budget after Sonic Frontiers and Movie 1 & 2's success, multiple crossovers, movies, statues etc We went from Colors Ultimate, a remaster that was SO BAD that it ltieralyl gave people SEIZURES due to the amm of visual glitches, to a Sonic version of Bowser's Fury, expanding the Lore of one of the most beloved character from the series, bringing back old vilains and remaking MANY old levels (not just boring stuff like Green Hill, these are fan favorite levels that weren't even MENTIONED by Sega for the past 20 years), expandingn Frontier's Open Zone formula etc, I genuinely could NOT get any happier.

One of the coolest moments was the end of the Generations trailer, the implication that Shadow will finally get to see Maria again... but have to choose whether keeping that or setting the timeline back the way it's supposed to be. That is such a bittersweet and fantastic idea for a story there, probably the heaviest I've seen mainline Sonic games go.

Plus, it’s arguably the best time to get back into Sonic ever since the movies gave Sega a much-needed wake-up call, metaphorically telling them “Remember Sonic? He’s still profitable. Stop treating him like garbage and make good products again!” Pretty much everyone who played the demo unanimously liked their experiences from what I’ve seen, and Sega’s shown off unedited footage of multiple bosses and levels which shows a LOT of confidence in their product’s quality.

Top Golf is a driving range marketed to casual/non-golfers, like a bowling alley. They serve food and drinks to your lane while your party takes turns hitting balls to various targets. The insane amount of Sonic media and different mediums is crazy, 5 year old me in 1995 would of lost his mind at the sheer amount of content. Movies, spin off shows for a game that is rereleased with brand new campaign content, LEGO, tons of mobile games, cross over with other media it’s wild. And they actually seem to be executing everything super well. You would have thought the movie would have been the death knell for a series that had over a decade of lackluster 3D games aside from a 2D platformer they refuse to make a sequel to and an initial movie reveal that was so awful they changed the whole damn design which STILL could of bombed and should have by video game movie history….And he’s super popular again, the amount of kids playing Sonic, the merch and toys in stores just the excitement around the franchise is so cool. Mario has always been cool never had a bad spell but man Sonic post 2020 is in its best form since the 90s, some might argue even better especially if you aren’t an early 90s kid who only had a SNES/64.

I heard in a recent Yahtzee Tries stream that people were hating on the recent Sonic Central. Which I at least understand... if you were expecting brand new game announcements... yeah, disappointment was pretty much inevitable. But just the sheer amount of stuff they are doing with the franchise like the DC comics collab, the Sonic X Shadow prequel animation, the Lego stuff... it was a packed presentation, even if there was nothing new games wise. I honestly thought it was a solid presentation for 2024... even if it was a bit scattered. But hey! Deven Mack as Sonic is starting to grow on me!

If you follow sonic news regularly, this sonic central was abive average than usual but nothing insane. Sonic mobile games are constantly getting updates Most of those pictures they showed were from events that already happened...still cool though Just like mobile games, there's always sonic merch to look forward to, lego included. We already knew about tje collectors efition (under limited run fyi) DC collab, topgolf and the 2 shadow related trailers were genuibe surprises to everyone sonic fan or not...and sonic rumble coming to pc

Some people have genuinely been saying that there wasn't much here likely because they didn't announce any "new" games or collections, just previews or updates for stuff we already new about. Those people do NOT remember what being a Sonic fan was like pre Frontiers. After Mania Plus we got NOTHING.

This brings up something I've thought about regarding Sega. If Sega did with the dreamcast what Nintendo did with the NES and SNES recently, I can't be the only who thinks that that would be phenomenal. The Dreamcast was my go-to system. The library was phenomenal. Surely they could do something crazy with it. Idk.

To clarify a few points: Sonic Forces (Speed battle) is a mobile title, that's the one getting additional characters. Sonic Racing is a mobile (and apple arcade?) game largely based on Team Sonic Racing. Two Point Museum is published by Sega. Top Golf is a sort of video gamey driving range chain of facilities, where you go and you hit golf balls in a sort of video driving range. Not sure how common they are, but they've had them in more than one of the states I've lived in. The Gerald's Journal was announced previously when they first stated what was in the Digital Deluxe edition, but with very little fanfare and no explanation at that time about what that entailed; I'm pretty curious about its contents, because the first image of it seemed to show a picture of the Master Emerald shrine, so it might finally tie together and canonize some long-held fan theories about Shadow's origins, Gerald's connections to the Echidna tribe, and why (from a lore perspective) Gerald made Shadow a hedgehog specifically.

The only thing remaining that I could ask for regarding SxS Generations is the inclusion of content from the 3DS game, like the exclusive levels and bosses. We know we're getting the Biolizard, so that's great, but I also loved stuff like Water Palace, Tropical Resort, and the Egg Emperor fight. I'd even go as far to say that it had a better Time Eater fight than the normal version of the game, at least for the 3D section.

Typically, Sonic Centrals are annual things, a lot of them happening around Sonic's anniversary or close to it. This is the first one that happened this late in the year. And man, this Sonic Central was so packed with stuff that the reveal of the Sonic Movie 3 DLC for Sonic X Shadow at the State of Play just caught *everyone* off-guard, thing just came outta nowhere.
