Sonic Classic Heroes: Rise of the Chaotix (Genesis) - Longplay [HD]

A longplay for Sonic 2 Hack is Sonic the Hedgehog: Rise of the Chaotix.
Sonic Classic Heroes is a ROM hack for the Sega Mega Drive / Genesis that is the result of a collaboration between flamewing and ColinC10, combining their respective hacks Sonic 2 Heroes and Sonic 1 and 2. It therefore is a single ROM that offers the entire campaigns of Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog 2, either alone or together; and enables the player to play as many characters such as Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles. The hack is named due to the ability to control a team of characters, which is reminiscent of the more recent 3D game Sonic Heroes.
The hack is built on Sonic 2’s engine, which has been enhanced by both flamewing and ColinC10 to have new features. These include: multiple gameplay elements from Sonic 3 & Knuckles, such as element shields and character-specific abilities; the ability to save progress, scores, etc. to SRAM (something rarely implemented in Sonic 2, with the other notable example being Esrael’s Sonic 2 Delta); various bug-fixes and improvements to the mechanics of the original games; and many more features, both implemented and planned.

Vectors Dash is quicker then doing a spin dash and it can get you out of the ball formation quicker, and Charmy has infinite flight, they break the game.

Just recently downloaded this new version of the Sonic Classic Heroes hack. All I have to say is that's utterly amazing. The combi-link, mixed with the fact that you can now play as Team Chaotix characters, truly gives this hack a complete make-over. I can't wait for the new teams to be released. And also: I can't wait for Hyper Dash mode (which I think is what "flamewing" means when he mentions "Team Hyper"). All in all, an amazing hack, and an amazing game. SO happy you put this up.

I wish that Bridge Zone, Jungle Zone, and Sky Base Zone were added to this game. Here is how I would reshuffle the game to reflect the change. Green Hill Zone Bridge Zone Marble Zone Labyrinth Zone Jungle Zone Spring Yard Zone Scrap Brain Zone Sky Base Zone Final Zone I would also give them various level amounts, namely, that there would be more than three levels a game, and that they would also consist of various elemental challenges (think Mario games), and I would also add more power ups and enemy types into the game as well.

Shadow, Cream and Rouge just have Advanced-style sprites, and Big and Omega weren't ever playable in 2D, to my knowledge. The sprites for the teams would have to be custom-made.

I wonder if this can be expanded to include Sonic 3 and Knuckles, for the absolute best 16-bit collection ever. Would likely need someone else to play Knuckles' role in Sonic's path cutscenes though. Mecha Sonic? Also make the bosses specific to Knuckles' path (final boss from Sonic 3 and Super Mecha Sonic) make an appearance in Launch Base and Sky Sanctuary, respectfully.

I keep hoping for this too... I almost want to learn how to do it myself and take what's here and expand it to use Sonic 3 & Knuckles' entire layout and intro but with all the levels from 1 - 3&Knuckles and include all the addons that are in this version. Also making a cutscene between 2 & 3 would be required but that would be fun to do. Could even add a bit more to the cutscene between 3 and S&K. Who knows... maybe the guy who did this mod will do this? I'm not even sure if it's possible either though, it would likely need to be done using the Sonic CD version due to the amount of space required. I even thought having the Sonic CD levels as a bonus after completing 1 - 3 and Knuckles would make for the absolute mega best super ultimate hyper awesome Sonic Collection of all time :P I know Sonic CD came between 2 and 3 but the story doesn't have anything to do with any of the games so it wouldn't really make sense to have it as part of the overall storyline. Man I want to see this so badly though especially because Sonic 3 & Knuckles is my favourite Sonic game of all time...

Oh and of course the Blue Sphere levels would be simple to do afterwards as well considering he already made the 3D sprites for the Sonic 2 Special Stages. Ahh... one can always dream. Also I have to say... ever since I first played Sonic 3 & Knuckles I have dreamed of playing it with Sonic & Knuckles together like you can in this - which hey.. at least my childhood dream finally came true! However I want to be able to do it in Sonic 3 and Knuckles as well! That was my ultimate dream. As well as being able to play as Knuckles & Tails which again can be done here. I want to have a separate save file for each though with the game completed in all the different combinations! It would also be awesome to have 16 save slots (or more) in order to do different combinations like say... Sonic & Mighty, Mighty & Tails, Knuckles & Mighty, Espio & Tails, Espio & Sonic, etc. etc. etc.!!! It would be really awesome if he could do it this way rather than having a strict team setup like in Sonic Heroes. I need to get back into modding and programming... TIME TO LEARN HOW TO MOD SONIC 3!!!
