@@SolarisPolari I would say I have no idea why that trend caught on, but I have a feeling that we all know. It's the 'fans' along with the tight deadlines the people in charge hold over developers heads because of "profit". They just aren't allowed to take their time and finsih the damn game because it has to be put by *that date* and any time it gets delayed their bosses are probably standing over their heads like "you better have this out by then, I don't care if it's not polished". For those defending this practice, look at how Tony Hawk turned out. The final game in the series was so utterly broken without a day one patch you couldn't do anything with it and if the servers go bye-bye then you no longer have a patch to get so the game remains permanently unplayable and broken ie. you cant preserve the game or go back to it without those files being somehow preserved with it. @@lpfan4491 Honestly that's the main issue with Colors. It's not the writing, or the "wisps" (I mean come on guys the Wisps were actually great in Sonic Colors, it's overused in other games like Classic Sonic being good in Generations and trash in Forces), it's not the fact that the game takes place mostly in 2D, or the "blocky platforming", it's the act structure. Originally, this game would've had 2 main acts, like Colors DS, which are around the same length as Generations Modern Sonic stages, and said main acts feature a great mix of 2D and 3D, with platforming that's usually disguised well with the environment. The gimmicky, shorter acts were just missions that weren't supposed to be mandatory, like Generations Missions. What's even worse is that 50% of the main acts got cut in 2 smaller acts, and the game suffers as a result. Had Colors had it's original act structure, the game would've honestly been as good as games like Unleashed and Generations, but akin to more of a "casual" Sonic experience, like the classic games, where you pick up and play the game for an hour and beat it, always having a great time and refining your play-through each time. Colors wouldn't have this whole "blocky, 70% 2D game" that people always talk about. It's a shame Colors never got it's act structure fixed in Ultimate, it would've caused way more people to know about why there are jarring 20 second acts you find through each world, and how the main acts are some of the best levels we got in any Sonic Game. Sorry for going on for so long.

Selling a broken product and saying "oh don't worry we'll fix it at some point maybe" would be illegal with any other product, at least in my country. @jesuspernia80312 жыл бұрын
Sonic Colors to me is just okay. 6/10 in my opinion. A lot of the level design is just blocks and there should be more 3D than 2D. Unleashed and Generations did it right. And even in Generations the 2D sections are far less and way better made, so Ultimate should have re-worked the level design like Generations.
@BlackKyurem52 жыл бұрын
@@jesuspernia8031 I can get that criticism for Colours. It's my favourite Sonic game and even I don't call it a 3D Sonic game, though I also refuse to call Generations a 3D Sonic game either because half of the game is entirely in 2D in Classic Sonic and Modern Sonic still has 2D sections in it even if less than Colours. I don't mind the blocky repeat levels too much (even though I rather them be optional levels) because at least they only last at most 2 minutes.

The only way to get around this is to constantly say that the game is unpatched throughout the review.

The ability to download patches is the greatest/worst thing, on one hand it allows them to give us more content of the game like smash ultimate DLC for example, on the other hand it gives an excuse for companies to release an unfinished product with the notion of “oh we’ll just pass it out later7

Patches should only be for balancing and the odd bug, it shouldn't be used as a crutch to release unfinished games. Sadly I'm just some guy so i can't change the industry
@BrokenAce12952 жыл бұрын
*@Khyon* I would argue that patches were a bad thing even for Smash Bros Ultimate because of how many there were to the point of making the game too big for its own good. The Switch itself only has 32 GB in internal memory, so with Smash Bros Ultimate taking up close to 16.3 GB, that's half of the Switch's internal memory and less room for other games. That leads to people having to spend extra money in buying Micro SD cards in order to fit in more games, along with their updates. That's exactly why Radicalsoda streamed Colors Ultimate and Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl unpatched since he was unable to update those games with little memory space on his Switch and he also wanted to play the games as they were originally released.
@azure46222 жыл бұрын
@@BrokenAce1295 i understand what you're saying but that's not really the patches fault. Say they released the full game, then it should have the same size including the patch. Anyways size isn't something i was talking about.
@BrokenAce12952 жыл бұрын
@@azure4622 Actually, it is the patches' fault, or at least partly, since the game should've been released in its finished state without people not only having to resort to buying more SD cards, but also needing to have Wi-Fi access in order to repetitiously update the game with its patches. Some may not have good enough Wi-Fi access, so they're out of luck when it comes to keeping the games up to date. It's also the fault of Nintendo for making the Switch have little memory space in its internal memory to fit a number of games in it. Also, for your information, I wasn't talking to you in the first place, I was talking to Khyon. Read carefully before posting next time.
