Yeah apparently, its canon to the actual .eXe that the characters Tom plays are vessels for souls. Alan is Tails Kyle is Knuckles Mike is Robotnik neat isnt it

Through my interpretation of the multiverse and timelines, this MAY be theoretically possible. What we know as 'video games', I believe to be inter-timeline gates of which small shards of our souls are sucked into which we then use to control the video game characters. This can give them the title of 'vessel', as they act as vessels to house our the shards of our souls. (Or soul shards, like me, which explains why some are naturally better at video games without much prior experience, as having an entire soul is very rare, as this is generally only possible at the beginning of a bloodline. This is due to the fact that, with an entire soul, a larger chunk can be sent into the game world and better override the characters' souls control over their vessel bodies than those with only shards. Despite only having a shard of a soul, I'm still naturally good at video games, but to explain this would make things a whole lot more complicated as I'd have to explain Animal Realms, and the powers some have over others, the amount of strength gained by having a soul or soul shard from a specific one, along with what purifying a soul does to the power of the entity it is connected to, etc..) If an entity has enough power to not only resist control of a player entity's soul, but OVERRIDE that control, (thus, canonically, whether intentional or not, makes literally EVERY NPC ENTITY MORE POWERFUL THAN THE PLAYER BY DEFAULT,) then it may be possible in theory that said entity can make the player entity seem like no shard of their soul is in the game world, and may send in another shard. This can eventually result in people being trapped in the game worlds, (or according to my interpretation, the third timeline where physics and all of reality as a whole is all janked up,) leading to what we see here. This generally only tends to occur in those with entire souls rather than just shards, as those with just shards tend to already be used to this by default, and thus generally don't get stuck in the third timeline. TL;DR, this is possible by the soul sending more of itself into the game world to where it no longer has control over the instance of the entity in the game world/third timeline OR the instance of the player entity in their original timeline.

Apparently the Tails of clusterverse 41323, sub-universe 'UwU' has managed to upgrade their universal space-rift generator (I can't remember what normal people call them, but this is just the technical name for it) and added the capability to generate clusterverse space-rifts, allowing him to travel to the clusterverse of 3BN2I, and go to Brazil also. Not quite sure which sub-universe in particular though, as that is never mentioned. Then again, the whole space-rift generator thing wasn't mentioned either, but I KNOW that's the way it occured as that is the only possible way one can travel from universe to universe, sub-universe to sub-universe, or even from clusterverse to clusterverse, or even multiverse to multiverse if you have enough high-end high-tech equipment and a large amount of electricity. (Or if you have an overly extremely large source of power, you can make a inter-timeline space-rift generator, and just hop on over to a different timeline. Just as a fair warning, though, make sure you are prepared, as the physics in some of the other timelines are drastically different to that of ours, and you can be crushed, implode, explode, die, instantaneously and spontaneously freeze or burst into flames, making the body your soul inhabits as a movable vessel change into a material that can't move freely on it's own, thus essentially technically making you dead, or you can even just cease to exist.)

Did you know that, depending on how tails and knuckles die, the monitors that show them at the start of eggmans stage will change to the respective death that they got Eg, if knuckles got to the FFFFFF zone and gets his heart ripped out, eggmans monitor will show a hole in knuckles' chest.
