You're right. Remember at the end of Sonic Mania, VS the Egg Reverie? Whenever Sonic would take a hit he'd lose rings AS SUPER SONIC. The Phantom Ruby is a very powerful item.

It’s clever how you ended the final boss. I’ve heard if you’re super sonic during the triple boost it soft locks the game, but obviously if you let your ring count run out you’ll just turn back into a normal sonic. So, assuming I’m understanding the process correctly, you timed the triple boost so it would activate right as sonic is changing back. That way the game thinks it’s modern sonic but he still has the model of super sonic. Well done.

How Sonic Forces could have been perfect: -Have Sonic taken out of the story towards the beginning as usual, but don't have him come back until the very end. -Scrap both Classic, and the custom character. -Bring back the Heroes system where you switch between a team of 3 characters. -Have the characters be various members of the resistance (Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, Silver, Espio, Rouge, Omega, Charmie, Hector, Blaze, and Sonic in the end / post game). -Give each character a unique wisp-like ability that helps them overcome certain obstacles and gain advantages in combat (Tails being able to fly, Knuckles having a punch attack, Silver being able to float temporarily, etc). -Make the game fully 3D with cleaner Adventure style physics, and boost gameplay. -Improve the level design, making it more open with more alternate routes, more creative locals, and time that clocks in at least longer than two minutes (probably closer to 5 to 10). -Improve the role of the villains. Each should have two boss fights: One early on in their base forms, and one later on in their ultimate forms. And they should be more complicated than hitting rocks or running in a straight line. -When they say Sonic is being tortured, actually have it seem that way. Keep him upbeat for a little while, but still a little roughed up in appearance and tone of voice. And later on in the story, he should just be completely broken until he escapes. -Infinite should be a much more significant villain. For one, his ability to warp reality and create dimensions could have been used in a far more interesting way in terms of boss fights and story. And he definitely should have had a more complex backstory, and some kind of role in the final boss. -The cutscene quality and general visuals and presentation could have been slightly better. -Boosting shouldn't have been refilled by enemies. Instead, they could have used the blue orbs from Sonic Mania. They take up less space and probably allow for slightly better level design. -Enemies should have been much more diverse. Perhaps an actual threat at least. Enemies that chase you down, enemies that target shots, enemies that take a few more hits to beat, enemies that act as larger obstacles, etc. And that's all I can really think of.

TripleJump Sonic has had way too much focus in recent years, to the point where they for some reason decided to make two different ones. Every other character, despite having the models to be just as functional, haven't been playable in years, all have potentially interesting abilities, and are awesome in their own right. Taking away Sonic for most of the story would give the game far more stakes, and make the resistance actually feel like a resistance; Characters facing extreme opposition over a powerful ruler after their most important asset is taken away.

Y’know, maybe we should give the final boss a better, albeit unofficial name... “Death Egg Robot” just doesn’t cut it for me, it just seems like a poor naming choice on Eggman (and SEGA’s) part. Perhaps we should take a page out of Mania’s book and have a name based on illusions, like some (?) of The titles for Mania’s soundtrack.
