31:03 That "Lucky~!" is pure Ochiai Rumi gold. I'm serious, that woman is, in my opinion, the most under-appreciated seiyuu ever. She needs more roles, as well as more fans (which is also my other opinion). Rumi-chan is a hidden gem of a seiyuu if there ever was one.

Wow, I really like Shadow's voice! It reminds me a lot of his David Humphrey (his english voice). Also, it's really nice and cool of you to do these translations for the fanbase. How'd ya learn Japanese anyway and how long have ya been learning it? I'm really interested in learning it and I've heard that it's fairly hard.
@blackblur78 жыл бұрын
Thanks, and you're welcome. I studied the Japanese language formally in all of my four years of high school, plus an additional year in university just for general education units. Although I may not be studying the language formally in a classroom anymore, I still do whatever I can to keep studying and learning the language myself through watching various TV shows or videos, reading articles, listening to music, and of course, translating the Japanese dub of the Sonic the Hedgehog series of games for those interested fans. After all, as a fellow gamer myself ever since, I've longed to familiarize and soon master the language so I can keep in touch with the news and development of games that I enjoy that originate from Japan. The Sonic the Hedgehog series, of course, comprises most of those games. The Japanese language might look intimidating maybe because it's an East Asian language, but with determination and commitment, learning the language isn't as hard as it looks. If you're going to study the language, don't stress too much on the writing systems: hiragana, katakana, and most importantly, kanji; instead, focus more on grammar (which is structured almost like English's) and important everyday survival expressions (like greetings and directions). You'll memorize hiragana and katakana in no time and learn lots of vocabulary and kanji along the way. Again, all you need is determination and commitment. And again, you're welcome.

I find it so weird that Shadow uses "boku" instead of "ore", whereas Sonic actually uses "ore". Do you know why this would be?
@tokutickler5 жыл бұрын
Sonic is cocky and has a major attitude. "Ore" really matches that ego. Meanwhile, Shadow is no-nonsense and more humble, using "boku". This means that, if Shadow states that he is the ultimate lifeform, he isn't trying to showboat. He's simply stating a fact in his mind.
@장준현-i9p5 ай бұрын
According to Shiro Maekawa(the story writer of the Sonic Adventure 2), it was his idea. He intended it to show that Shadow’s character is more delicate that we think.

It is interesting how Humphrey is the only one of Shadow's English VAs to properly capture how much more soft spoken and relaxed Shadow is in Japanese, whereas his later ones take on the tone of a dark brooding loner to the point where they're nearly different characters.

Hey, how do you get to the VIP room in Casino Park?
@blackblur77 жыл бұрын
If I remember correctly, before landing in the room with the laser-locked staircase that leads to the VIP room, there is a double pinball table - one table at the top and a table right below it. It's easy to fall from the top table to the table, while going from the bottom table to the top can be quite tricky without accidentally propelling oneself to the aforementioned room with the laser-locked staircase. The switch that deactivates the lasers to the staircase is right at the top of the top table. Getting to the switch there can be tricky because of the bumpers surrounding the switch. Good luck, though!

Thank you very much for the translate! Yet, isn't "kisama" an insult (キサマ - 3:35 & 37:36)? What's the meaning of adressing their "nakama" in such a fighting way?
@blackblur77 жыл бұрын
In everyday Japanese language, yes. It's a put-down kind of pronoun, perhaps used as an emphasis for, say, one addressing to his or her mortal enemy. Then again, pronouns like "watashi" and "anata" (the latter and its synonyms, especially) are not used frequently in everyday Japanese language. Answering your question, though, in both of these contexts, I think not, at least not to the degree as that "kisama" and its death sentence-wishing connotation. The first scenario, I say, is simply amnesiac Shadow addressing his comrades as unneeded acquaintances, at least at that time being. The second scenario is more or less like the first, but with Omega, and perhaps to a lesser degree now that the trio are more familiar with each other at this time. I can also say that maybe that's just part of Omega's manner of speech with which he was programmed, since he is [and now was] one of Eggman's robots.
@Eleoness7 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for the reply. It is well explained and clear. :)
@blackblur77 жыл бұрын
"Kisama" is closely translated to "you," but with a put-down connotation. In English, it's more like "You fools," "You imbeciles," "You clods," "You [insert expletive here]…" I hope you get the idea.
@redblack87667 жыл бұрын
If I remember correctly, "kisama" is used to address someone of lower status like say, in the army. At least that's how it started.
@RulezAPower7 жыл бұрын
Just remember that, even though Team Dark is working as a team, they're not actually very united throughout the storyline, like Team Sonic or Team Chaotix are, so it's pretty natural to them to address as "Kisama" for "you" instead of "anata wa", "anata tachi" (another way to refer to 'you" when there's two people or more, like in the case of 3:35 line), "omai", etc...

I asked this on the Team Sonic video but is there a translation patch that adds these proper english subs to the PC version of the game, similar to SKing Blue's SA1 Retranslated mod? I'm playing through my disk copy of the PC version for the first time and I don't like using the shitty english dub subtitles that come with the game.

More or less. The obvious difference will be lots of a few minute videos of each path of each level considering the branched storyline. Of course, the last episode is the only exception.
@Lowbarful8 жыл бұрын
I'm looking forward to it. I hope you do the hidden stuff such as certain characters' comments in paths that go against their alignment and Secret Doors. For example in Cryptic Castle taking Eggman down to the neutral end path will have him freak out about the giant skeleton and showing the Air Saucer in Lava Shelter to Omega will have him comment that it's mechanisms do not compute.

Such a weak story compared to SA2. The whole dark story was so pointless, Rouge is basically like hey Shadow! Hmmm; a little bit disappointing; for years when I played the english version of the game, I could've sworn that Rouge's dialogue in the final cutscene was some kind of lost-in-translation dubbing-error. And while her dialogue is _better_ in this version, it doesn't truly feel what _needs_ to be said is being said. I feel like what Rouge _should_ be saying is pondering the likely possibility that Shadow _might_ be an Android, only for Omega to present that it's still as much a possibility that the _real Shadow_ has to still be out there. In both versions, the statement of Shadow being an Android feels to _certain._ I gotta admit though, I like that the Team Sonic fight has that reference to the Adventure 2 Die-Hard line. But still, I don't like how Shadow _immediately jumps_ to killing them, when I don't feel like it's actually in his character based on this game.

you guys know tha metal sonic can be sonic roboticized right ? Because Dr eggman never builded a second one but why ? The anser is tha sonic can be metal sonic roboticized and if you pay attentio durin the overlord boss fight metal sonic says "accept me as I am" and he uses chaos powers like chaos control. Back in sonic adventure Tikal says "The servents are the chaos emeralds, chaos is power enriched by the heart" so if metal sonic can use chaos control he has a heart and as so he can't be a robot right? Annother thing tha you can see is the final boss fight name I mean Metal "Madness" this is just part of a theory that metal sonic is a sonic from annother dimention that it has been captured by Dr Eggman and has became his right hand and it has became so angry because of it tha he just has accept the "moster he became" and because of all the hatred he receaved he becabe dark.Well if someone is interested than google it.
