Sonic Illusion: A Boost Style Fan Game

I think I'm suffering from fan game burnout. None of them do anything reasonably new, so they just feel like he same thing repeated with slight alterations. Apart from Sonic GT, none of them ever seem to actually get completed. All they ever show is movement and basic level design. Not much expansion, so the actually original and creative ideas are never fully realized

It feels like so many are just making very tiny slight variations of boost gameplay, but none of them have an actual identity to separate it from the rest. Why make another boost fan-engine? Why wouldn't anyone just use the hundreds of others that exist? And it feels like there's never any proper stages with these, which is to be expected, cause the devs are focusing on making the framework/engine, but again, why don't we get people working on fan-stages for all the other frameworks/engines? And when we do, it's usually pretty mediocre.

Let's run through the checklist, shall we? - Basic, untextured level geometry. - Infinity engine. - Interesting snippets of level design that lack polish and due iteration. - Ambitions for a full game. - Slightly janky and basic level design. - Sonic Unleashed voice clips. - Bad camera in nonlinear segments. - Only other playable level is ported from an official game. Oh yeah, it's a Modern Sonic fangame, alright. Which isn't to say it's bad or lazy. I cannot fathom how difficult it is to make something like this, but that doesn't mean I cannot rightly point out that this falls into the mould set by so many other fangames of its type. Honestly, the only unique thing I can think of in this project is the upgrade system. Pointless as it is, I've definitely not seen that before in a Modern Sonic fangame (Unless you count Sonic Islands, and even then it was done in a unique way and legitimately altered gameplay)! EDIT: I was wrong about the Infinity engine. I've left it as-is because erasing mistakes means little to me in comparison to owning up to them.

I’m not exactly sure how to feel about this. I guess it just depends on the level design, the Forces level didn’t really help honestly. With Sonic being slower than in that game, the level just felt even more like a hallway than normally. Also this might be a nitpick, but I think the amount of motion blur is a bit too much for the speed Sonic is at when boosting, I feel like it creates some dissonance between what Sonic’s movement speed should be vs. what it actually is.

Look I hate to be that guy, but boost fangames are getting a bit old hat. They barely do anything different and it always just amounts to the boost gameplay we already know, with slightly better 3D handling for Sonic, and occasionally worse mechanics elsewhere. It's gotten as stale as Sonic Team's games have gotten. Sometimes you get something like GT where it has just a few solid (maybe rarely confusing) levels and a couple of meh bosses. But more often than not I've just been seeing these "totally unique boost gameplay frameworks" with test maps/awkward levels slapped together by someone who is no doubt capable of building levels, but doesn't have any real experience with the level design process.

I don’t understand this every framework does something different from the last. Infinity plus and dash engine are not even similar and both use the boost. If anything the adventure/ momentum fan games have been over saturated since utopia and gt with every 3D fan game using the bumper engine and barely having anything unique and trying to emulate gt it’s repetitive the level design is similar the playable character count it’s similar and the play styles are near identical.

I like this it doesn't use the adventure style + boost gameplay like most fan games do and it has improved alot since last time Sonic is alot more fluid the camera has gotten better to emulate the boost gameplay even though there is a lot of work that needs to be done I would say that it's gotten better
