Since you could space jump you could try and avoid those spikes or that wall in act 3 of green hill zone that makes you proceed, or fly over the chasm in the last level agaisnt eggman, or idk maybe there was nothing in those places beyond that but it's possible!

Good observation! I had already thought about escaping that part in ghz3, I think I had even done it before recording. I tried escaping the final part too but nothing interesting happened. But one thing I discovered is that you can beat the game right after Scrap Brain 2, instead of falling to the next level, go over it and go right until the end. You will reach the layout of the final level and then the game ends!
