They're not even bad midi songs tho like I don't get where the hate for these come from Is it the default sound set that's just a slightly scaled back version of the sc55? Is it the compositions not being 100% accurate but not mm2wood levels of bad? I grew up with these versions first and when I think bad midis I think some of the crap submissions in vgmusic, not these

@@shalpp compared to the Genesis renditions, they sound rather empty/incomplete and somewhat buggy. A perfect example is the missing notes of hydrocity act 1, and the single-note tremolo on the data select (vs going up and down a note)

I'm delighted with this version. I'm listening to it over and over. My son loves it too. May I ask, is there something similar for Sonic 1, Sonic 2, Sonic CD, Sonic Mania? I know the research was to determine the original instruments for the PC version, but having it also for other Sonic titles would be astonishing.

There are Mobile Java (J2ME) ports of 1 & 2 (wich use midi format to store audio) but some bits of the music are cut (If I remember it right). It could actually be possible to change the instruments to make it CD quality. Actually, now that I've mentioned it, i want to try doing it.

This is amazing, Thank you. Btw, i saw this article about sin and punishment for the n64. Would you or the guys that do these restorations ever consider restoring the sin and punishment ost for the n64? if you guys have a patreon, id love to donate for that and other projects. -From shmuplations interview with the composer: "-I would say your work on Sin and Punishment for the N64 was another high point in your career. Its fierce, dense fusion sound makes you totally forget the limitations of the N64 hardware. Yamanaka: That was PCM, accomplished thanks to a certain very talented programmer at Treasure. -Streamed PCM was rare on the N64. It sounds great, you really don’t think you’re listening to an N64 game. Does that mean, by the way, you’ve got the higher quality, uncompressed music data lying around somewhere? Yamanaka: Well, the only instrument I used to compose that music was the Roland SC-88 Pro. Since it turned out Treasure was able to do PCM streaming, it probably would have been nice if I’d worked in a more elaborate recording environment, but balancing a lot of sounds is actually very difficult for me. I use the expression “wall of sound” to refer to my own music style; I’m not very good at using space like some other composers are."

Any plans to redo the SC-88VL recording with the MIDI fixes used here (which I assume is using Snooping One's "GM Music Fix" mod on GameBanana)? The SC-88 may be more accurate than the SC-88Pro, historically speaking, but that other recording cannot be considered the definitive version until the missing notes are restored.

Some, like Angel Island, I still prefer with regular Midi instruments over these intended ones. Either way. both are better than the Genesis versions. Soundtracks like Spinball's take advantage of the Genesis synths and would sound off without them, while Sonic 3 doesn't in my opinion, so it sounds way better with more diverse range of instruments.

As the original artist weren't sound technician would I be surprised if they had any idea how it will sound on the MegaDrive. So the originals them self were already interpretations from Sega technical sound team. At least I know this was how Sonic 1 and 2's sounds were made Demo Tracks of real instruments being converted by programmers into chip tune.

We believe that both GM and FM tracks were done using demo tapes available at SEGA for this game. It might explain the lack of any of the Team Jackson produced tracks as SEGA does not have those demo tapes.
