Eggman is so different from most villains. He’s cold hearted and evil to the point of where he tries to roboticize and conquer the world, but I get the feeling he genuinely does care for Sonic and the gang at least a little bit. In Sonic X for example, he gently talks Tails through his grief before Tails has to kill Cosmo. I feel like in an alternate universe, Eggman is pals with Sonic and co. haha

I really liked Eggman's character development in this. It showed there was more to him than just "MUAHAHA EVIL GENIUS SCIENTIST WANTS TO CONQUER THE WORLD WITH ROBOTS!!!" He does have an actual human side. We saw glimpses of it in Sonic Adventure 2, and here in Lost World we get to take a peek beneath his perpetual shell of rage and evil. Eggman not only speaks nobly of Tails after he gets trapped, and encourages Sonic, but he literally saves the lives of both Tails and Sonic at different points. And it's not just the human decency either, his human emotions also make a brief appearance. Eggman is normally angry, but that anger is his baseline state: cold, calculated, somewhat controlled. Here the Zeti takeover enrages him so much he actually loses his cool and the rage and malice he shows are obviously an emotional response. And then the writers erased ALL OF THAT by having him double-cross them in the end!!! ...Well, almost. You could argue that everything mentioned above was just acting, but I like to think maybe Eggman actually let his guard down around Sonic and Tails, just a little.

Honestly, it's not the last time Eggman has suggested some major respect for Tails. In the IDW Comics, the Bad Guys mini-series, Dr. Starline is trying to frame Sonic for his raids on Eggman bases, and when the idea of the technical glitches and incomplete security footage being Tails' doing was suggested, he shoots it down, not even calling him Tails. "Prower wouldn't be this sloppy." Between this, and some later comments, it really gives the idea that Eggman does have some really major respect for Tails, but simply doesn't like to publicly acknowledge the skills of his enemies until after he's beaten them. When he's on the back foot after losing control of the Zeti, I think his moments of letting his guard down around Sonic & Tails are genuine. It's just... Eggman will be Eggman, and once he has his chance to take control again and get back on his Scheme Scene, he jumps fully back into Performance Mode.

I unironically find this story good and fun,and out of context this story is incredibly dark,sonic and tails are stranded on an unknown planetoid and Sonic’s friends are at risk as he’s threatened that his world will be gone and his friends,but overall? I find it fun! I love the colors,the six steal the show for me,I like sonic’s characterization here more than forces for how we see multiple sides of him,we see him not just be cocky but also sad,angry,scared and confused at times,the stories about a spiritual quest that the three under go,sonic learning how to rebuild his trust and to be patient and think when fighting,tails learning to regain his confidence and not to be a jerk and eggman to not mess with the zeti or ancient creatures,also this might be one of the best cutscenes for the amount of camera angles,different scenes,comedy and cinematography,especially when sonic is alone and is just taking in the moment as the wind blows with a baritone piano setting the mood,making it feel more like a movie! This is my favorite sonic game and I’m not afraid to hide it❤
