Well it looks like everyone who thought that Paramount was just going to have it be a trilogy is being proven wrong by this, and I'm glad about that because it makes more sense for that studio to produce more Sonic movies for the reason that Toby Ascher mentioned. I honestly wasn’t expecting this. This rumor of a confirmed Sonic 4 movie being proven true by the creator himself?! And with so many stories and so many possibilities, there’s a good chance for more on top of that?! Chaos above, thinking about it all, I may need a minute… As far as the plot line goes for Sonic 4, I’ve literally been had that same idea you have, Eggman using Sonic’s quill to create Metal Sonic to face off against Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, possibly Shadow and a newly introduced Amy to the movie series. And for the fifth movie, not only did I think of Silver appearing from a ruined future (maybe not exactly by Metal Sonic taking over, but still), but maybe, just maybe Blaze alongside him. Maybe Metal would somehow find a way to get a hold of the jeweled scepter or the sol emeralds and use that power to take over, ultimately creating Silver’s bad future and bringing him together with Blaze to meet up with Sonic’s family and fight Metal Sonic. After that movie? Who knows who’s coming next? The chaotix, Rouge, Cream and Vanilla, Big, the Babylon Rogues… Sorry if it sounds like I’m rambling on, I’m just really excited about the future of the Sonic movies.

I wanna know what ya'll thoughts on if they even bring back Maria as a hedgehog? Seeing that they already have Sonic with a fictional background story like you guys said, I'd be so curious if they even go as far as introducing Maria as a hedgehog in movie 4 or 5 alongside Metal,Amy, Rouge etc. Say, Shadow becomes unpredictable right? unstoppable? In 4 or 5 even if he does side with Sonic in 3. They already bring back Robotik so what if Robotnik revealed to Eggman in 3 that he had been working on his own secret project and we don't see what it is until the end of 3 or in 4. where we see more personal clips of the ark moments etc (maybe this even be part of the show shows....) and as a way to shake the government or Stop shadow gun reveals Maria The Hedgehog. I know they probably won't but I'd be so so so shooketh if they even did, it could easily fit into the movies too!
