Hi! This is a lovely guide and thank you for recommending Legacy of Solaris in it! I DID want to make a point that if you do play with Legacy of Solaris you DO NOT have to turn on ANY of the codes in the mod manager! LoS comes with every code and mod it needs and because of how extensive it is, it CAN break easily applying anything else, so do that at your own risk! The only codes I'd recommend, as a dev member on the mod, are: Disable x2 AA (this can help reduce lag) and Disable Bloom (if playing above 720 or 1280p, iirc).

For Sonic Unleashed, you did not mention the Foreign Input System mod as an essential. That makes the Werehog SO MUCH MORE FUN rather than feeling like a downgrade from the Daytime levels! Highly recommend it as an essential.

Just read through this. Very aesthetically pleasing, and mostly agree with the choices, with a couple notes: * while the presentation of the spinoff mods as 90s-style ads is cute, I think simply listing them like any other game would provide more clarity, even if it is just a page with one mod each. People in these comments think that none of the Advance games are even mentioned! Plus, Sonic Advance Souped Up does a lot for Advance 1 of what SP does for Advance 2 (or the Advance 1 Tweaked mod from a couple years back, if you think Souped is too drastic). Also, Sonic 1 SMS only has one mod, but doesn't follow this format, so it's a little inconsistent. * the Sonic the Fighters "community edition" page links to a twitter account which links to a discord server, which _might_ have some custom mod for the game somewhere? But I sure as hell can't find it. I had to go back and check that this wasn't related to TDRR's StF Remix mod, which no, they are distinct. * Only the 'TD' in "TD Bugfixes" is a hyperlink in the Mania section. I assume since the guide uses blue for links that this is an oversight. * Not sure I like how some of the mods in here link directly to files without a description of how to install them or even what some of them are. For example, seems like there should be a more obvious place to find Sonic 1 SMS Perfect System than this single PDF file. When Mania TDX has "poor mod compatibility", is that with all mods or just those not included in the Mania section? Clarity would help on these. * the Sonic R section refers to Radical City as 'Radical Highway'. * Okay, this totally isn't your fault or anything, but I find it kind of maddening how both Shadow Reloaded's mod page and everyone _talking_ about Shadow Reloaded say that the missions are more tolerable, but nowhere on the entire internet is there a mention that Lethal Highway and Air Fleet both have _increased difficulty_ due to making their autoscrolling targets way faster. I'm assuming this isn't a bug or anything, but that nearly stopped us from being able to finish the game on DDZ! I had to tell Sid to use cheats! * 06 has a retranslation mod! It's hard for me to like the game's story in any case but I was surprised to not see it included alongside the other games. * I noticed in the codes section of 06 that you're using 'Unlock mid-air momentum'. I just wanted to issue a warning that I'm pretty sure that breaks a spring in Shadow's Aquatic Base so it can't be completed. No idea if Legacy of Solaris fixes this. * I feel that, with the mentions of DX and Re-Gravitified, the controller mod for Free Riders deserves a mention. Maybe the game's not great no matter what scheme you use, but it was another rule-of-3 omission that I didn't expect. * I'm surprised that the layouts and physics changes for Lost World improvement made the game harder for you, for me they broke the game in half with how easily Sonic could pull off just about any maneuver. Maybe that's the point, or maybe I'm delusional, as apparently us Lost World likers are so unhinged that the introductory paragraph feels the need to call us out ;P * like with the Mania mods before, I wish I knew what the "Doilus soundtrack" entails, or indeed who the hell "The Doilus Stage" even is. I had to download the mod itself just to check. Plus, what replacing Golden Capital 2, the only good sounding track of that zone, but not Act 1 or Act Knuckles? Literally unplayable. * In the time since I started writing this, the 'comic book adventure' mod got a fixed link in the youtube comments, though still not in the video description. anyway cool shit mostly good hope some of these things can get buffed out

I was thinking of bringing up Shadow Reloaded too, some of the difficulty changes really are all over the place. The missions where you chase down a target have both increased speed and hitpoints, you pratically need the Shadow Rifle and infinite ammo from Chaos powers to take them out efficiently. Then there's stuff like the race with Sonic, where the time limit is now so strict that it almost requires a near perfect run or a chaos control skip most new players won't know about. On top of that you got more agressive enemies resulting in cheapshots, the incredibly demanding ranks and the nerve wracking expert mode which was some people's preferred way to play the game. All in all despite making some aspects of the game more accessible the mod really feels catered to people who mastered the original.

@@harmoniouschaos6376 The Sonic race actually has a second, earlier goal ring you can use to make it pitifully _easy,_ which is weird. I didn't personally struggle with any enemies except perhaps the beetles on Digital Circuit Dark (the much faster antivirus enemies are really annoying but they're not actually _difficult_ per se). Expert mode being ridiculous isn't that huge a deal to me, but it should definitely be one _option,_ with maybe a code or something (dunno how modding works) to restore the regular layouts sans mission stuff. But then, I never play expert mode because I'd rather choose the stage order to place Act 1s and 2s together with bosses.

I had a few instances of gun beetles snipping me into bottomless pits before I could react, particularly in Air Fleet though that might also be on me but it sure didn't feel like it. Also I never thought of doing a two act playthrough before, I'll be giving it a try.

I think a better compromise might be using (a cyan version of) the chaos emerald object from westopolis, but instead of being a goal ring, it just changes what the actual goal does? Also, yeah, laying it out like a traditional Sonic game is easily my preferred method of play for Shadow. The reloaded guy is working on a randomizer and I'm hoping that will eventually allow custom stage playlists. If I squint I almost feel like I'm playing a linear adventure where Shadow follows the heroes before targeting Eggman, gets lied to about being a robot, gets disoriented when Eggman tells the truth, is taken advantage of by Black Doom's ARK flashbacks, then is convinced to go to the ARK by Sonic and finally goes after Black Doom from there.

Lots of great points that I'm gonna implement here. * I do want to keep the ads, but I agree that stuff like Fighters needs to be more clear on where the mod actually is. I've yet to try any Advance 1 mods, so that's why it's not there for now. Sonic 1 SMS gets a page for the simple reason that I implemented it before I decided on the ad thing, and couldn't think of a good ad layout for it... but I was aware it'd look a bit odd, so I might go back and adjust that. * I thought I fixed the hyperlink guff! I'll go make sure I actually fix it next time. * Yeah, the direct mod links are something I'm planning to solve with dedicated mod pages on my new website, I just haven't had chance to implement those pages yet - but they'll be the official 'home' of those mods beyond the guide, at least. * I can't believe I got caught as a fake Sonic R fan in 4K like this * I have to admit that I didn't run into issues with Shadow Reloaded, but it's been a while... oops. * I had no idea it did! If you do update this in the future then I feel that Sonic Riders Tournament Edition should be one of the bonus games. Also having some Sonic 1 Forever and Sonic 2 Absolute mods on there like the Origins cutscenes for example. Also you should put the Amy Galore Sonic 3 Air mod in this as well since it is the only Amy mod I seen for Air that adds her Origins moveset so it does count as a Origins parity mod

Little thing to add onto the Sonic Unleashed section: On either either Nvidia GTX 1600 or RTX 2000 series and higher, there was a driver update pushed that significantly reduced crashes on Xenia's D3D12 option, making it superior, but only on those cards, otherwise, use Vulkan with the FSI render path.

if it doesn't include all the handhelds its not the perfect system collection. those are canon too. sonic battle is even referenced in dark beginnings through emerl and sonic advance 3 takes place directly after sonic battle and has gmerl, who is emerl rebuilt, and is in the idw comics. also sonic rush is blaze's first appearance, it was before 06, and then she appears again in sonic rush adventure and it introduces her sol dimension from the idw comics. seriously idk why you all continue to ignore the handhelds like they aren't canon, they are, even the current silver the hedgehog is from a handheld, he's the silver from sonic rivals.

@@infern209x It’s nothing to do with canon - it’s just that there’s nothing about those games to make a ‘perfect system’ version with, because I just play them as they are - except for Advance 2, because I made a hack for that. There are more improvement hacks for the Advance games in the works afaik, but this guide just focuses on games where I’d recommend mods - it’s nothing to do with canon.

Absolutely fantastic set up as always, but I can't help but find the insistance of Japanese Dub and Retranslated mods as "Essentials" to be extremely disingenuous to everything else this guide accomplishes. No matter what way you try to spin it, Sub vs. Dub is always 110% down to personal preference, there is nothing essential about switching in game dialouge to a language I can't understand that forces me to read text instead of watching the cutscenes or, you know, playing the game. Not knowing what a character is saying is infinitely more annoying to me than some corny dialouge the series practically lives by. But hey, it's your guide and obviously those parts can be ignored, I just don't agree on the placement. Everything else here is so fueled by passion and quality that I can't help but recommend this to my friends. I've had them use the previous revision before, and I'll continue to do so with this version.

Personally, the JP thing is moreso about the quality of the translations themselves than voice acting - moreso for the older titles. But I do admit, if folks were to ignore any part of the Essentials, it can probably be those, and I did consider moving them to Optional - I'd just recommend anyone to at least try the original scripts, even if only once, to see what the original intent was before the localisation mangling, particularly for SA1/SA2. Some pretty important stuff gets lost in translation, and I think the added context is valuable. (It's why I don't recommend Frontiers' Re-Translated mod - the Japanese script for that game is pretty naff, and I don't think you miss anything not using it!)

I have a soft spot for the dub, but for Sonic Adventure 2 in particular, I think the Retranslated mod is pretty necessary and is the only way I play SA2 now. Feels like a completely different game, It's insane how much clearer the story presentation is. (The lip flaps matching up is an added bonus)

It's from Space Harrier. Another Sega franchise that is really good btw. You run and fly towards the horizon as monsters loom from the distance and you have to shoot or dodge them. Ending each area with a unique boss. It's downright addictive!

SMS Games: The Fact That you didn't mention the Sonic 1 And 2 SMS Remakes And Also Sonic Chaos 8 Bit Remake but included 16 bit triple trouble is just plain wrong Sonic 1,2,Chaos SMS Remakes All are almost identical to the original 8 bit games with the exception if Sonic 2 but it still felt something like original, Triple Trouble 16 bit and Drift 16 Bit are complete overhaul with almost nothing left of the original games so my recommendation is to play them through genesis gx and use extend game gear resolution. Sonic Mania: There is Mod Addendun which is like Sonic CD Miracle Edition for mania which adds amy as a character and more! Sonic R: There is a wonderful fan-remake made On ROBLOX of all places but it enhances graphics, adds new maps and new characters BUT ALSO ITS ONLINE MULTIPLAYER SO YOU CAN PLAY WITH ANYONE FROM THE WORLD And It's Called Sonic R-echarged. Sonic Heroes: It had HD Textures mod ya know? Sonic Advance 1: There is A Mod Pack For Old Mobile Port Which Is Called "MOST MODS" which adds and fixes may things from original mobile port and it can be widescreen which is cool! Sonic Unleashed: ...Dude you forgot even the 60 fps mod fix like I have to say anything after that? Sonic Forces: You can import Sonic And Avatars Physics From Sonic Forces Overclocked which controls like 10 times better There is a guide on gamebanana page for that And There is Mod to make the fullest potential of hedgehog engine 2 so don't forget that! Sonic Pocket Adventure: There is a hack Sonic Pocket Winter Which adds knuckles and tails to the game so yea it's automatically better Tails Adventure: There is an remake in works the same one as Sonic Chaos one and I recommend that when it comes out Sonic Storybook games: There is an HD Texture packs for both and no gloss mod BUUUT For Black knight there is a mod which makes it have modern shaders and makes it look a ton better also there is an remake of secret rings in works it's called Project reignition which removes the autorun sonic has and just makes it so much better. Sonic UnWIIshed: It has a lot of mods so you will need to search them yourself Sonic 4: For Episode 1 Mobile Port is the best one and for episode 2 with some mods on pc is the best Sonic Colors DS: It has a mod that makes it widescreen BUT ALSO MAKES IT SO YOU CAN PLAY ON ONE SCREEN oh and also it has cosmetics it's called Ultimate Customisation + Widescreen Mod Pack Sonic 3D Blast: It Has A Hack made by an original director of that game Gamehut it has many new additions which will make that the best version out there Ok And Now That's the real SONIC PERFECT SYSTEM (also you will need to install like 500 mods for all games in addition that weren't mentioned good luuuck!)

And now, let's dissect the many problems with yours. - The Sonic 1/2 SMS remakes are played by questionable physics and jank, and focus on adding a slew of superfluous content - which is why I don't recommend them. Triple Trouble is a more dramatic overhaul, yet somehow manages to stay more true to the game it's based on, while being a genuine improvement - and it's not really here as a replacement for the original, just a recommendation for a fan project I enjoy. - Mania Addendum doesn't actually work on current decomp builds, and is a far more dramatic overhaul than the Perfect System guide is supposed to be. I'm not looking to completely transform these games (despite some folks getting the impression I am), and Addendum goes far beyond what I want to do. - Hahahaha I am not sending people to Roblox, c'mon. I've not seen this remake, but I don't for a second think it'd be a replacement for the original, online play or not. - Heroes does have a HD texture mod, but I don't tend to recommend those beyond GUI elements. AI upscaling can often result in loss of detail (ironically), and at the end of the day I've accepted it's better to take these games as they are, from the time they were made - if that means some slightly crunchy textures, I can cope. - The Advance 1 Android port, modded or not, does not run very well and is still a considerably worse way to play Advance 1. I've tried it, I wasn't impressed. - The guide linked in Sonic Unleashed's configuration box in the guide mentions the 60fps patch, as well as other pre-requisites for SU on Xenia. It'd be redundant to mention it at the moment, though I do plan to make the SU page more comprehensive by itself in the future. - The Overclocked physics thing is cool, but I'd rather keep it simple for the guide than have people manually merging files from mods and what not. If I can figure out an easier way to facilitate that, I'll mention it in a future update. - The Pocket Adventure thing is cool, I'll check that out at some point. - I've seen the Tails Adventure remake, I've just yet to play it; provided it lives up to the original (of which I'm a big fan, so my standards are high), I'll get it added at some point. - Sonic Storybook games don't have much interesting to them beyond texture packs, which wouldn't make for a very interesting section in the guide, nor something I think it'd be worth going out of the way for beyond just playing them the normal way. Project Re-Ignition looks cool, but it's also nowhere near done. - Sonic Unwiished really isn't worth playing. - Sonic 4 also isn't really worth playing. If I did have to recommend anything for it, there's a very old mod to import the iPad models into the PC version (which look better for some reason), but even then. - The Colours DS thing sounds interesting - I was vaguely aware of the widescreen patch, but the single screen thing sounds neat. - I play Sonic 3D on Saturn for the superior Special Stages, visuals, and analog control with the Saturn 3D Pad. Director's Cut is neat, but it's not how I play it. On the whole, you seem to have misunderstood the point of Perfect System - I'm not trying to cram a trillion new features into these games, and any overhauls I do make I want to keep limited, else you're just getting further and further away from actually playing the games as we know them. Hell, some people think I've already gone too far with some of the suggestions already! I'm also not really interested in remakes that can't keep reasonable accuracy to the source material, or at least offer a substantial update - the SMS remakes may have a ton of new content, but they don't feel like they control or even 'feel' right, so I don't really care. And ultimately, 'more content' doesn't necessarily equal better.

It Has Saves 2.Its rebalanced and so forth like yea saturn special stages are cool and graphics are better at saturn but I still think dx patch still has a fighting chance in the gameplay department

@@TrackerTD but in general that is a great work on your part to guide the young new players to play GOOD versions of the games but I am the f#cking psychopath in that factor so I just had to place my 2 cents (Also For Sonic 1 Forever The Is Epilogue expansion and for sonic 2 absolute there is Atmospheric pallets mods)
