I kinda just wanted to see Shadow interact with the New Yolk resistance. I can't sing enough praises towards Ian Hanlin for his work as Shadow. He absolutely crushed it. The animation on Shadow and Sonic for that matter was also lovely; I can't believe Shadow actually SMILED here and there. And when he was explaining how and why he was stuck in the void, the animation on his face was incredible. So many different emotions. And words cannot express how elated I am that one of my all time favorite characters is back to form. Now if only Sega would give him friends he'd be back to peak Shadow cause HE CAN HAVE FRIENDS SEGA. HE HAD FRIENDS IN SONIC 06 DAMMIT. He doesn't deserve to be alone for all eternity.

I could really feel Shadow's frustration with Sonic in the first episode, because it was warranted. It was all Sonic's fault and assuming that montage didn't imply that time goes by faster outside of Shatterspace, it means he had a long time to spend alone in the Void, and stew in the confusion and frustration, knowing that Sonic's antics literally destroyed everything and he had no idea if it would ever be fixed.

My main problem is how the other shatterverse characters like the boscage maze crew or even rebel and knux all need to re-learn their old lessons. Work together and take care of boscage. Trust Sonic so he can help the rebellion. And then the pirate shit makes Dread convince his crew to distrust Sonic in two seconds even though they were willing to dump him and have Sonic as captain not too long ago. Just felt like they were so conveniently willing to go along with this despite how much Sonic helped them before. At least they should've argued about it.

i like the teenage and young adult versions of eggman. "what are they doing, their boat is made of wood" had me cracking up for a moment personally. I also wish it was more mature but it did get more serious at the finale. nine asking sonic what he thought would happen to him when they reconstructed the prism was a long time coming. while that moment felt like it had good payoff, on the flipside, it also made me annoyed how stupid they made basically everybody except nine and shadow. i think the only reason this question feels satisfying when vocalized is because they made sonic so stupid he never asked it himself. it feels like a cheap payoff in a way cuz... why didnt sonic ask this question, right?

Granted, Sonic's dialogue makes it pretty obvious that he was under the impression that all of the different versions of his friends will continue to co-exist even after the prism is restored. He has no basis in assuming this, but considering he views every single one of his friends' variations as real, it makes sense that he wouldn't just reduce them to side effects of the prism's power that poof away once it's repaired.

I'ma be honest, the writing really doesn't bug me. Yeah, it's not reaching its potential, but it's a beautiful characterization of Sonic- probably the first time he's been *this* optimistic, and actually facing consequences as a result- and despite the one-note flavors of the characters, I'm still enjoying every one of them for every second of screen time they get. Yeah, a lot of it is cliché, but the way you can really *feel* how real it is to the characters, through the phenomenal animation and voice work, still sells it and keeps me riveted. So yeah, it's not meeting its full potential, but what potential it *does* meet, it does *great.* My only complaint is that we didn't get to see Shadow fight Chaos Sonic. Also I *will* kill to get a good 10 minutes of uninterrupted Knux vs. Dread action.

It sucks they keep having to sideline Shadow because of how strong he is. They could've gotten one or two more stories out of Shadow without him being trapped in the void. I wonder if he'll be the same stoic loner if he saw Maria alive and well.

I actually like the Chaos Council now because their personalities feel more fleshed out and the humorous banter between them. I enjoyed Chaos Sonic and his overbearing personality because he feels like a over the top evil version of Sonic, it even reminded me of Scourge and Shard from the Archie Comics. I enjoyed seeing everyone all explore other dimensions and the chemistry between the Amy variants. I didn't actually mind Dread becoming a minor antagonist because it was clear in Season/Act 1 that he was corrupted with wanting the Blue Shard. I don't know if it is a hot take or not, but I think what's really pushing this show back is the stupid cap of 8 episodes a season. When you do that, when the show comes back you're more or less forced to have at least one episode focus on a hook for the next season and one focused on recap, and you're also more or less forced to reintroduce or remind people of certain things instead of having a consistent flow. None of the characters rub me the wrong way at all, it's just that when things seem to be sluggish is because they're making "tv" on streaming, if that makes sense. Things that have been convention and commonplace on tv that doesn't really work on streaming. There are only two things I have to actually complain about the show proper. One is the lack of badniks. I feel like for 14 out of the 16 episodes so far the only enemies have been the same orange eggforcers, and always like the same group of about 5 at a time. *THAT* is tiresome. Specially because episode 1 had a few of the classics that could still have been used with some mods. Chaos Sonic was a welcome change of pace from that; and I think it's part of the reason why the fights with Shadow really are the highlight of this show. The other thing is that, for a show with a "multiverse" premise, only having 5 worlds, and 2 of them are ghost towns, and other two are just "what if nature all over" is rather dull. New Yolk works because it's basically SatAM without Sally; but the other worlds barely have stakes when what we know is just "oh, Sonic's friends are the only 5 people living here, if there even is anyone here at all" I like the twist ending of season 2 with Nine's heel turn and all, but goddamn I want them to find out they're missing more pieces and finding out a couple more worlds to go through. Give me a desert oasis that reeks of Sonic Boom or an actual like, alien reality that evokes Blaze's home dimension or Camelot. If you're gonna do Sonic multiverse have him visit places we haven't seen in a while.

This season of Sonic Prime reminds me a lot of the Sonic comics. Mr Dr Eggman acting recklessly, lulling Nine into a false sense of security so thag Eggman could learn from him and come up with a counter to Sonic reminded me of the IDW Comics with Starline. Sonic’s entire dynamic with Nine feels like his dynamic with Tails near the end of the Preboot, where Sonic is so self-assured about the things around him that he’s convinced that Tails will go along with everything he says, failing to see him as his own unique entity. I might say rather than looking at the cast as "alternate" version, it might be more fitting to call them "shattered" versions. Looking at most of them as separate aspects of those characters twisted without their other parts or even Sonic in the picture. But this idea feels like it works with some characters over others. Dread is the Knuckles focused on the Master Emerald, Thorn is the strong combativeness of Amy, Nine is the scientific side of him, but a lot of those without their other traits in-tact are sort of dangerous in their own way. (I could also be grasping on straws if that wasn't intended by the writers, but I feel it's what made these characters click for me eventually the more I watched this show.)
@rainpooper7088

I wish that was what they were going for, but this idea falls apart as soon as you look at the less prominent characters. What unique aspect of Tails is Mangy supposed to represent? Where did Rouge's desire for gemstones go (mind you, this was the whole darn reason she was even there during the show's inciting incident), why do none of her alternate versions care for them? Big is pretty much the same in every Shatterspace. This explanation, while cool on paper, is flimsy at best when looking at what the show actually does.

You summed up my thoughts so well on Prime. I would've loved this premise if it was an individual arc in a longer arching story like how IDW or Sonic X was structured. What doesn't help it is the child cartoon dialogue at points. Sonic is a series that always will be aimed at kids, and that's fine, but I think there's a difference between 'writing for kids' and 'writing for all ages.' Chaos Sonic I would've found way more endearing if his dialogue was anywhere near as sassy as how Flynn writes for characters in IDW. He can still be annoying - that was the point - but the comebacks were very light and - for lack of a better word - 'corporate' typical than what it could be. There's also the fact we barely get to see how the normal versions are like before they are gone. We're meant to grow attached to versions of the characters that will never exist in the games that this series wants viewers to check out. It really makes Prime feel so disconnected to the games, despite sources saying the opposite. It's a fun series, but I'm mostly getting enjoyable moments and concepts rather than enjoying the story as a whole. That said, it could be so much worse in less capable hands. There's so many factors just by having a whole season revolve around this single story that could have made the experience really mediocre but is turning out to be fun. My one hope is Sega noticing how well the reception is on this Shadow. Shadow's easily still the best part I'm grateful for.

I do like that Nine's shift to villain was a slow burn from the start with a mix of subtle and obvious hints. I oddly actually would've liked if we have liked it if they stretched it out longer so the plot doesn't advance as fast to give story beats time to simmer or go to new dimension are more What If scenarios than the theme swaps we've gotten so far. In any case the (hopefully) last season will be fun as it'll interesting to see what warped reality Nines makes in the Grim with all the Shards.

Nine being a villain is fun, because it plays off the main theme in Sonic not thinking his actions through. Most people when attempting to correct a timeline change would consider what would happen to the new universe after the world is reset, especially if there's people in there you've come to know and like and respect, but Sonic doesn't even seem to think about the fact that Nine and everyone else will disappear, and consequently just assumes Nine will go along with the plan.

1.Shadow honestly needed to be written out of a good chunk of the plot, otherwise he'd solve everything in 30 minutes and I'm glad that they did it in a way that makes sense and still has him be a terrifyingly powerfull force 2. I really like Shadow's depiction here. He's serious and somewhat edgy, but he's completely no nonsense and efficient. Yoi also get the sense that he *wants* to respect Sonic because of their history, but the blue hedgehog makes it really difficult and drives him up a wall with his behaviour. Hell, Shadow even warns Sonic, multiple times, to take things more seriousl, and to *not* be so trusting of the alternate version of his friends. Because they're not his friends. Nine especially is as far removed from Tails as he could be and Shadow warns him of this, a pretty good indicator that while this version of the ultimate lifeform isn't exactly a people person, he's a pretty decent judge of character.

If you're gonna have to write Shadow out of the plot you either have to nerf him or just not have him in. And this is a legit good way to nerf him that makes sense. Unlike Sonic and his friends, thanks to him using Chaos Control, Shadow didn't get hit with that Prismatic Energy. So he didn't get split into multiple facets of himself, and he isn't able to cross Shatterspace. It's good writing because you can still have Shadow THERE as a guide and rival to Sonic, but he won't be OP and solve things in seconds because of his no nonsense attitude. It's genius. I also really love how he's written here. I wish he had SOME connection to Rouge, he deserves friends. But other than the no friends mandate causing a ruckus, his personality is back to pre meta era Shadow. And that is just fantastic. He's a hedgehog with many facets to him, not just edgy. And it's high time Sega keep him THIS way, not how he was in the 2010s. I do agree with you as well regarding his....well, regard for Sonic. He does on some level respect Sonic. But Sonic's tendencies tend to annoy Shadow more often than not, and thus it makes working with Sonic a chore vs enjoyable. I think Shadow WANTS it to be enjoyable, but Sonic's hyperactive personality is just a bit much. Which I can understand as an introvert.

I do have one overarching complaint about Shadow though. How is he as strong as Sonic? Sonic at this point has gone through multiple growth arcs, and gotten much more powerful. But we’ve seen nothing of Shadow’s growth, he just kinda IS on par with Sonic. I do love the Sonic vs Shadow rivalry, but I just wish they’d explain how he got so strong. Give us another Shadow game or something. I want to like it, but they just never explained it, so Shadow just comes off as unreasonably strong.
@TheRibottoStudios
@TheRibottoStudios 9 ай бұрын
@@complete8423 Shadow's backstory is kind of messy. But the reason why he's so strong is because he was designed to be that way in a lab. The short and sweet version is he was created to help find a cure to Maria's illness, hence why he's the Ultimate Lifeform. And...That's kind of the point of Shadow vs Sonic. They're on par with each other in terms of speed. But in regards to power set? Shadow IS technically more powerful as he has access to Chaos Control with just one Chaos Emerald (I wonder what they're gonna do about the green one that fell into the eternal pit of darkness), which allows him to teleport. Sonic doesn't have that ability. Shadow also has incredible control over Chaos Powers, able to use attacks such as Chaos Spear, and Chaos Blast which can decimate anything in a several mile radius. Shadow is also immortal; being the Ultimate Lifeform he cannot age and therefore cannot die. You might have noticed Shadow has rings on his wrists-those are inhibitor rings. When he removes these, he becomes invincible. When he has these on, they do what their namesake says they do; they inhibit his powers. If we look at their actual fights, most of them have been indecisive with no clear victor. Shadow will only remove his rings either when he knows he can get away with it, or when he literally has no other choice. Any other instance is too much of a gamble which is why he uses them situationally. The reason why Shadow is seen as more....capable I guess than Sonic is simply because of his personality. He gets. ISH. DONE. His no nonsense attitude is why he would solve problems faster than you can blink. He isn't as quick to trust as Sonic, something that's served him well over the course of his life, his willingness to make the hard call is why he gets things done. And that's honestly why he's such a fascinating character. There's so many facets to him that a lot of people tend to miss thanks to his Boom iteration.

@@TheRibottoStudios Thank you for explaining the lore, though I did already know everything (accept for the Shadow the Hedgehog stuff), but you made a couple mistakes that I can clear up real quick. 1. You said “Sonic doesn’t have that ability” (I’m assuming referring to single emerald Chaos Control), but Sonic DOES have that ability. In SA2 he even used a FAKE Emerald to consistently use Chaos Control. (And Shadow actually called Sonic the TRUE Ultimate Life Form during the Final Fight of SA2) 2. Shadow wasn’t originally on par with Sonic. Sonic beat him on the Ark, so he was stronger back then. After that, Shadow was stronger (or at least on par) for the events of Shadow the Hedgehog, and he was definitely stronger during 06. Past that, I’m questioning Shadow STILL being on par with Sonic. Back then I feel it was within reason that he would be on par with Sonic. But at this point, Sonic showed superiority in Generations, and has only gotten stronger since then. What I’m questioning is how Shadow is keeping up with Sonic’s growth. I don’t doubt that he could, I just wish we could see HOW.

@@complete8423 Oh shoot I completely forgot Sonic could do that WITH a fake emerald. Hella impressive. I guess the main reason for why Shadow would be on par or stronger than Sonic is SO they can be rivals, with the only explanation I can come up with is everything special about Shadow came out of a lab. He's genetically created. It kinda makes sense he'd be the one person in the universe to truly rival Sonic. Side note I also really like the reason as to why Shadow calls Sonic "Faker"; from Shadow's POV, Sonic is the one copying him, cause technically he's been around longer. Not only that, but he's the Ultimate Lifeform. Hence the line "You're comparing yourself to me? Ha! You're not even good enough to be my fake". What I'm going to say may be an unpopular opinion, but I hate it when people try to force Sonic to be immature to make him grow in the plot. The ideal Sonic for me would be the one who always brings out the best in other people, For example when Blaze tried to act alone and Sonic positively convinced her that you can sometimes trust others and allow them to help. Or when Sonic brought a new perspective that it's okay to you let it all go, even if it's sad, if you live to the fullest you'll have no regrets. Sonic is the light and hope of those around him and not a hurricane of trouble.

I honestly agree with this. While I do like a lot of the writing for the other characters, I'm so used to the Game version of Sonic's personality and writing, specifically his development from the Dream Cast Era up to Unleashed (Meta Era was a step backwards in a lot of ways so not counting that), and now Frontiers, that this Sonic's writing and personality, while somewhat better than the Meta Era games, it's just so jarring to see Sonic be made occasionally THIS annoying, dumb, and incompetent at times, all *just to get the plot started and keep it going on longer*. I get that he's growing and improving as the plot goes on, and that's fine, hopefully by the end he'll be closer to the game Sonic we know like we have in Frontiers now, but it does test the patience a quite bit.

Tails and Silver learn to be more brave confident in themselves by looking up to him, Amy leaves her crush behind to be her own person and learns to love herself, Knuckles learns to trust others and relax, same for Blaze, Shadow learns to see the beauty that Maria saw on earth and more. All of this happens thanks to Sonic, making him a selfish and immature idiot who needs to learn to appreciate his friends when he's the one that has been teaching that lesson to literaly everyone else is a deep misunderstanding of his character

I feel like a lot of the issues stemming from this series comes from it feeling more and more toyetic as things progress: The near-exhaustive amount of fighting that doesn't go anywhere, the limited character roster, the one-note alternate worlds... it feels like the writers are trying their best with whatever mandates they were given, and are being asked to stretch it out to 24 episodes (likely for potential syndication). It's such a rough tear, because it's great to have a new Sonic cartoon that is willing to take itself a bit more seriously, and it's solid overall... but the experience is being soured by a plot that's running longer than it needs, and/or is squandering its potential with what one could do with a "multiverse" story.

I've noticed a few things in the show about how they handle the characters at how they incorporate some older stuff, first of all Shadow has been amazing and it's so nice to finally see him done right even though I do still love some cringy overdramatic shadow like in boom, and within the Amy variants I see a bit of boom Amy's personality with her reactions to different things seeming often exasperated a lot like in boom except this time she's not a total "female dog". I feel like knuckles with an attempt to overcorrect at times with how he was portrayed in boom trying to make him super serious and stoic but it doesn't come out quite right for me at least in terms of the main knuckles. New Yolk City definitely felt like an attempt to do Sonic forces correctly. And I feel like sonic is a bit of a mixture of game, boom, and movie sonic, he sort of has the inexperiencedness of movie Sonic while having the sort of crap talking witty personality of boom Sonic while having some of the history and somewhat more heroic nature of game sonic and his jokes feel like a mix between boom and game sonic, somewhat witty but often kind of falling flat.

I had my own idea for the settings to make them all stand out. Green hill is apart of South Island. Green Hill is not he only part of South Island so how about, so the reason the gang is all in Green Hill is because of the Prism's energy waves coming from South Island after a scuffle between just Sonic and Eggman broke the bedrock. null-void-dimension thingy is Green Hill. New Yolk is a variation of Scrap Brain or Starlight Zone the Ocean is somewhat the same, but has more aspects of Labyrinth. Hell, have the episode instead be about an actual Labyrinth and getting to the shard before the other. the Jungle can literally be the 8bit Jungle Zone using these iconic levels can have some mechanics or set pieces from them. Buzz saws or ramps and slopes in New Yolk. Constant traps and floating water in Labyrinth usage of vines, falling bridges or such in Jungle Zone. adds lore to South Island and makes the worlds a little bit more interesting.

When I first watch Season 2, I loved it a lot. I feel like the last two episode really got me hyped and excited for Season 3. When it comes to the overall Sonic Universe and this show I feel like it would fit pretty well between Forces (and I guess Team Sonic Racing) and Frontiers. 2010s Sonic was really corny and very joke-y while Frontiers has Sonic more serious. Season 1's early episode had Sonic feel like he was just ripped straight from Forces. Then slowly but surely begin to become more aware of his objective and what he needs to do to achive it, and I really love that. The writers have been doing a great job with that blue hedgehog. Like I said, earlier the last two epieodes were my favorites. I enjoyed the call backs to Frontiers and both Sonic Movies (SM1 & Frontiers with the electric prismatic energy & Sonic fighting against a giant entity with super powerful [I guess womething also happened in the 2022 IDW Annual with Jet and Whisper versus a giant badnik]). Now that I think about it, I feel like there are some similarites to the IDW Comics with New Yoke City being similar to Eggperial City with different sectors, and the ability to have it grow consistently (mainly when New Yoke invaded No Place and the Boscage Maze). Then it all circles back to SatAM and a bit of Archie with a group of heroes trying to stop Eggman from continuing his already expansive rule over Mobious. I swear it feels like there are references to references fo refrences with this show. Paired with the very good looking animation and a great voice cast, it is honestly amazing that this show exists. I (again) love it. I can't wait for Season 3, no matter how long it takes, I believe it will be definitely worth the wait!

Something that bothers me (despite my loving the show, I just say it's canon because it's in its own continuity, like how they separated classic and modern Sonic so they're both canon) is that SEGA always treats Green Hill like it's Sonic's home. I was under the impression that Sonic was nomadic and he made some extended stops on islands before moving on. Green Hill was just a place on South Island he happened to stop by and befriend the local animals in before Eggman showed up and did his robot schtick. In fact, Green Hill is on South Island, but Sonic is from Christmas Island

I dunno, I enjoy the different worlds, it's fun to just see these characters do things. And to be honest I do like the Chaos Council quite a bunch! Especially in the second season! I like some of fhe dynamics they get heh. Like when Dr. Babbles, and Dr. Don't got sent on a mission together, it's like a teen stuck babysitting his little brother. Later on, Dr. Don't is driving the mothership while Dr. Babbles get to play games essentially ehich annoys him. It's just so relatable, he feels like a middle sibling. Aslo I really like his main ability, switching between different robots to control them directly, which just makes sense with his character. And let's not forget how perceptive he is! Wouldn't say smart but definitely perceptive. He is the one who was always sus of Nine, he noticed Shadow, and he immediately figured out what Sonic meant by "shard" and such. So yeah, Dr. Don't is top tier I also like how Dr. Deep and Dr. Done It are handled. They could have easily sent the gramps with a moody teen, but they wen't with something slightly different, gramps and a hipster. It was fun to see them argue, which again, hearing those things is so relatable. "Go do your yogurt!" "For the last time, it's YOGA!" It's also fun that Dr. Done It doesn't seem to have any way to fight on a big scale, but he seems to be a strategist and a driver/pilot. Again, relatable how he argues about taking the wheel. And my favourite thing about that setup was when they lost the shard, and had to nervously lie about getting it. That moment just shows that the Council is not a unified front, and can hide stuff from each other, and such. I like Dr. Done it, hope we see more of him. Dr. Deep is neat too. In personality, he is funny, and I love that he is a pompous loser and everyobody, even his own teammates, make fun of him for it. Trying to be all stulish and the like. While you were eating chillisogs he studied the blade... And in terms of fights I like his suit, it's a nice new concept for Eggy, more of an exoskeleton than a suit. Well of course, I feel like mainline eggman would never be athletic enough to pull that off. So I like Dr. Deep both as comic relief and as a miniboss. Dr. Babbles is hatable as Sonic said but also that is the kinda response the show wants. He has a big mech with a bunch of powers, I like how everyone seems to understand him, I like the implication that he is the most cruel of the Council, but also rather smart. Now, Mr. Dr. Eggman. He is the most vanilla of the bunch, but it's good to have something grounded in something fsmiliar. He is pretty much just eggman, but more subdued. He also seems to be the "main one" of the council and because he has no gimmicks, he can be more ambitious or clearheaded. Such as him creating Chaos Sonic ehile everyone else was arguing about flamethrowers or laser eyes. Essentielly, he is not to blame for the coly paste robots, the others are lol. Tl;DR I like Chaos Council, wish we got to see them in games. My top 10 are: 1.Current Era Eggman 2.Boom Eggman 3.Adventure Era Eggman 4.Dr. Don't 5.Dr. Done It 6.Dr. Deep 7.Dr. Babbles 8.Meta Era Eggman 9.Mr.Dr Eggman 10.Dark Era Eggman So yeah

I posted this over on the chaos sonic video bit thought as a fan of the Chaos council you might enjoy this theory I have about them. While watching the new season the other day I came to a weird idea: The Chaos Council is Eggman for 5 different generations. Starting with Mr. Dr. Robotnik, he is the Gen-X version, the one closet to classic as Sonic was originally made to cater to Gen-X themes and tropes so the Gen-X one is the closest to classic but also seems terrified of being seen as behind the times, out of touch, or even older, hence the toupee which seems to be a commentary on aging Gen-Xers as they were consistently described as the cool young generation in marketing, but now are all over 40. Dr. Deep is the Millennial Eggman, a generation often associated with the importation of Japanese culture through anime and tokusatsu shows such as Power Rangers, furthermore he is obsessed with appearing cooler and more in control than he actually is, a commentary on how many millennials would rather see themselves as either other generation that they are closer to in age, than as a millennial. Also worth noting that he states he is Vegan which, in the US, is most prominently represented in Millennials and Gen-Z but more vocal among Millennials. Dr. Don't is the Gen-Z/Zoomer Eggman, an Eggman who mostly interacts with the world through electronic devices and is seen as generally lazy by the others, following the current stereotype of many Gen-Z as complaining and always being online. Dr. Done It is the Baby-boomer Eggman, completely out of touch and for some reason proud of it. He often misunderstands things or does things wrong, then vehemently defends what he did even if doing so makes no sense, even more so than the other members of the Chaos Council, and often seeks the simplest and easiest to do solution while calling the others lazy. Finally there is Dr. Babble, the Gen-α Eggman. Still a baby and thus often wanting immediate satisfaction, which has also been attributed to many Gen-α even if that is usually the case for children in general. It's just an idea, but it is so weird how all of this lines up, that I kind of hope it was intentional. Then again maybe I'm just getting old.

To me the weakness of the series isn’t directly it’s fault, but the fault of multiverse stories in general. We don’t care about the other versions of characters, we don’t care about the other world. Because they aren’t our versions. We want our versions back, because that’s what we like, and that means getting rid of the other versions. This happens with almost all multiverse stories, typically you have the case of one alternate universe having something interesting (usually the absence of a major character - like you say here). There can be some exceptions if the alternate world is completely different, like Blaze’s world at most having some references to the Sonic world, but otherwise is it’s own thing. I think it’s forgotten that multiverse stories exist purely for fan service - it was so two characters who couldn’t logically interact have an excuse to. That means these stories live and die off the fan service they provide

It’s bugged me how little we’ve seen of Sonic’s original friends. Part of what makes a multiverse work interesting is seeing how different the counterparts are from the originals, but since we only barely establish the originals, the effect is watered down. I’ll bet anything that Sonic’s friends won’t be restored until the very end, which sucks because I’d love a scene where they get restored, learn what Sonic did and call him out. I feel like that’d be even more impactful than with Shadow since they’re the ones Sonic cares about most.

Just finished the season, my notes: 1) Dread was annoying, at least explain why he's obsessed with the shard? They never explored the submerged green hill zone 2) Metal sonic was.. okay. The silent evil metal sonic we're used to would've been predictable, I like how this version didn't stop talking as if mirroring Sonic's behavior of never shutting up and listening to others 3) Shadow is perfect, I like how he's like an older brother to sonic, a role no other character can fill. There's a scene where sonic tries to convince shadow of trusting Nine and Shadow just looks back firmly in face of sonic's nativity, another funny scene where Shadow says "at least that's a sonic I can agree with" lol 4) I saw Nine's betrayal a mile away, it is typical when a multiverse situation happens, the other version refuses to disappear basically. It lines up nicely with the moral of the story: Sonic should stop and listen for once and be more considerate. Overall, pretty good season. Next season most probably is going to explore the dark void in the shatter-verse and perhaps we might see super sonic and shadow fight whatever crawls out of there.

Shadow was easily the highlight of the season, being the best Shadow performance we have had in a literal decade, both character wise and voice wise. Overall through I was either ambivalent to certain characters or was tired of them, the Chaos Council and Sonic firmly sitting in the latter category and the rest sitting in the former. I just can't get behind Prime's Sonic or his personality. Paradox Prism Sonic was cool up until the point where he started talking.

Awesome video! I personally really enjoyed this season! I really loved how Shadow was being portrayed this season and the finale was really shocking. However, I do agree with you that they could have developed the characters a little better, especially Sonic's friends from the original universe. It feels like they are just there to tell the audience that Sonic has friends in the original timeline and while I do like characters like Nine, I still wanted to learn more about Prime Tails and how he was as a character. I hope they try to expand more on the characters in the next part.

I really hope season 3 gets interesting cuz there’s a lot they could do, mainly having a version of Tails be a potential villain being a very bold idea. That and Sonic realising that if he wants green hill back, the other shatter spaces will most likely disappear causing some emotional scene of sonic letting nine disappear. If this happens it’ll deffo be predictable but still a cool way to cap it off. That or save all the multiverse stuff we wanted right at the end, but that’s now becoming more and more unlikely

There were times I was loving the show and other times, more often than not, where I was going, “You idiot!” Or “Just get on with it!” The show could have wrapped up early if Sonic wasn’t always slipping up or trusted his friends to fight on their own. Though I will admit the fight against the Eggman Titan was cool; prism energy vs prism energy, though I hate what Nine did. But yeah, Shadow was one of the best things about the show. It’s just a shame he doesn’t get a chance to interact with the New Yolk resistance. That would be worthwhile

Yeah when watching this I was like this story kinda sucks but the environments are cool and should be a real sonic game. Jokes aside I was thinking I wish I could play and run around in new yoke and other environments in the show Sonic games have been missing Sonic looking environments Sonic dream team has been the closest to any game that looks like This show.

Sonic may have questionable QC over his games, but Sonic is one of the best, most well developed characters and franchise in video game history. Really only a few things keeps him from the top, and mainly some issues pointed out here. Is he for young kids or teens? Do you tell a kiddie story or one that would hold the adults that grew up with him? Honestly, many shows have the way to high paced set pieces like Sonic does, like Avatar for example. Also, you can tell that the writers knew the Choas Council was going to get old, that's why they were working up Nine. I called this way out, and (since I ended up benge watching this) saw it first hand. Many Sonic games have realized that Sonic vs Eggman dynamic is played, so they've snuck in Dark Gia, or Solaris as true enemies. This time, it's Nine. And he works perfectly. So like many Sonic games, it has its issues, but outside of Pokémon, he's still the best video game character in a cartoon or movie. But I hope they don't make some of these mistakes on the 3rd live action film. Basically the 2nd one did the exact thing this show did.

I agree that the Pirate Knuckles bit got pretty old in Season 2. And when there was a second water world episode, I consciously thought, "Ah, so this is what a bottle episode is." And I got annoyed by just how gullible Sonic is when [a specific character] was being really obvious that he was walking into a trap.

I also was NOT appreciating the way Shadow was completely outclassed in the finale. The first episode establishes Shadow as a bad ass by clapping around Sonic and throughout the show, we can see Shadow ICHING to be apart of the action. He finally gets his chance at the finale and only really destroys a few bots. When Shadow told sonic to pursue the Egg Titan and leave Dr. Babble and the other dude to him, I was expecting to see Shadow pull out all the stops...he didn't even use one chaos ability. Not a single teleport or spear.

You're critical of my favorite aspect of the show, to me the re-imaginings of the characters/setting are where the value is. I really missed that aspect in this middle batch, where they're forced to work in places and characters that are already established. I'm a bit sad about Nine becoming an antagonist, because I actually want him to win.

Great video as always but idk if this is just me but there is a pretty bad vertical sync problem in this video. Edit: Also this is most likely just me but I never found any of these characters annoying like at all. Again just me on that hill and I could see why other may find them annoying. But I adore all of them and I screamed in joy a lot and now my voice is hoarse (I am currently 19 gonna be 20 in January I am an adult)

Been seeing quite a few detractors of this 'season' of prime and I have to say I actually think this season was a little better than the first. Sure, the fighting/action is a bit too heavy and some of the character's more annoying quirks are amplified; but I think that's the point the show is trying to make. Each shatter version of our main cast are echoes of an aspect of their personalities and background. Knuckles in my opinion was the strongest example this season since we got a lot more screentime with Dread. His Bosscage version seems to be much more aloof and survivor mode like we've seen him be in early sonic whenever other characters aren't around. His New yolk city persona is loyal and takes charge much like modern Knux post Forces. Dread I think is that small speck of ancient echidna ramped up. He's power hungry, treacherous and only willing to repay favors so he doesn't loose face. I'm really excited for season 3 because I think there is going to be a reconciliation between the different versions so we can see how the prime versions really are the best versions of these characters. It also makes me feel a little less sad there aren't multiple versions of Sonic running around based on what we saw with chaos Sonic.

I also thinking that a whole new Sonic show with parallel worlds premise wouldn't work very well if it's just the sole premise and not a part of a longer show, like a plot at two-three episodes. And also look like the plot of the whole show seems to be to little for 24 episodes, so it's spread over the length, which makes it look like it's slow. Well at least, the action scenes are entertaining, like even the best part of the show.

3:15 About the planet name thing. I like to believe that the anthro culture was very separate from human society. And when they named the planet, they called it Mobius. But when Earth became the norm for the planet’s name, Mobius just became a thing of the past and only is referenced in the catagory of human like species, “Mobians”.

Dread betraying his crew was on point and in character too. Dread is the most pirate character - treasure mad, disloyal and treacherous. It's like the Nine/Tails dilemma Sonic has - Knuckles and Dread are different versions of the same character. But they're not the same person.

Great review, I find myself somehow the exact opposite in view and general view. I'm really enjoying it, possibly precisely because it doesn't focus on the Prime Sonic cast. This is what I look for in multiverse storytelling, the gimmicks, the twists even if a few of these are more completely different characters with a similar hat. The only major misstep I can think of is the Chaos Council, leaving all the Eggmen variants in one world is a bit lame, a better flow probably would have been one Eggman per world who then come together to be the main threat of season 2 and then likely keep the same plan into season 3.

Thought I would have loved to have more the prime characters. I really wanted all the alternate characters expanded on. The trailer made it look like it was going to expand on the other Tails at least. That didn't happen. By the end of this season I was tired of Sonic and Metal Sonic frustrated me. I know Sonic is the star but his friends have always been the reason I have stuck with this franchise.

I dig the show- story is very basic and art style is 2020s standard but I think this version of Sonic himself is the best we've had since SatAM: he's arrogant and self important, verging on selfish at times like the 90s version but he's still got bits of that dull wholesome Sonic that they've forced on us since the end of the Adventure era. It's nice to have Sonic with attitude again. Regarding the Chaos council and the criticism of having 5, do you get that they're all different aspects of Eggman? His character constantly fluxes from crotchet old guy to tantruming baby, to huffy teen to pretentious dandy. Then there's the megalomaniac version that wants to take charge of every situation and thinks he has the fool proof plans for domination that include ancient magical items that never work.

I've posted this around a few times but at this point I'm trying to get feedback om whether this theory holds water. While watching season 2 the other day I came to a weird idea: The Chaos Council is Eggman for 5 different generations.

Also there were genuine moments when he was smiling, they just were very brief moments

Am I the only one to get the impression while watching the episodes that Nine's "hair" changed when he was a little more kind and open to the friendship with sonic, turning to the front similar to Tails, and when he is rough and closed to his emotions his hair turns to the side or to the back, maybe it was only a impression so maybe you guys can tell me if you notice or was thinking the same thing.

im terms of the chaos council in this season, i felt that dr babble was toned down, dr deep was less annoying, dr don't was more annoying, dr... old guy was actually kinda funny at some points, and mr dr eggman... was literally just eggman. i liked the scenes with him, especially the nine interrogation scene. gave me vibes of when eggman tricked tails in SA2. edit: another thing i realized in this season that dread being knuckles was an uneducated choice. dread should have been rouge, for... obvious reasons.
