This game gets a lot easier to control when you stop treating it like a 3D platformer and start treating it like the racing game it wants to be. Having an acceleration button and giving these characters "car-like" controls may seem awkward for anyone other than Eggman and Amy, but holy hell does it make the game more enjoyable.

it should be played like a racing game, although doing so isn’t completely obvious unless you experiment with the controls or look at the manual. when you’re presented to sonic and the gang on feet, at the time it seemed obvious to play it like a 3D platformer, bc it looked more like one

I always loved the flow of sonic R, this shortcuts felt accessable and satisfying, there were always many ways to play and utilize special moves... There are some things like turning, camera, and some shitty character balance (amy is unusable compared to the rest) that could be fixed but its still a pretty fun game
