I played this game when I was 6 with my old pentium II, with lowest graphic settings and really low fps. One race could last 10 minutes. It took me months of gameplay to actually discover the emeralds and special characters unlock. I went crazy once robo sonic appeared. Good old times of gaming and no internet connection. It had its own mystic around.

i played tf outta this game as a kid. it was the first 3D game that could run smoothly on my mom's PC and i was blown away. so many hours spent just free roaming the levels to look at the most insignificant details. i still remember how the disc and cover art look. very nostalgic for this one.

Nice try, but I am an owner the original Sonic R CD on PC, and even back in 1997-1998, my friends and I were blown away with how much better it looks compared to the Saturn version. It was sharp (instead of grainy), and the framerate was a chef's kiss rock solid 60 FPS. I just popped it back in to make sure I'm not crazy, and it still looks beautiful. This game doesn't need mods, but if it has some, all the better.

Tbh I wish sega did a remaster of this. Granted it wasn't that good but the potential is there, the music is great and the new characters were always fun to unlock! Imagine if they did this but with a modern spin (eg. sega all stars racing or sonic team racing, but without the transformation vehicles or team gimmick). Characters able to drift, each having their abilities along with a beneficial boost with it (like knuckles glide can charge a boost while gliding to close the gap), new characters, drop dash for every character, new levels and cinematic loop-de-loops/ moments. All with the classic models and music as an extra mode you can unlock after 100% AND you if you 100% that, you can use them as unlockable soundtracks, levels and skins! All complete with a story mode for each character and if you unlock all the secrets, you get each character's super form. Eggrobo even becoming Heavy King and Metal sonic becoming Neo Metal sonic!

Corporates suck the passion/life out of every project they touch … and decorate it in formulaic and predictable graphic enhancements, use generic af music, and if you’re lucky, that’s the least amount of damage remakes have on the originals … otherwise you know how it goes: paywalls, loot boxes, etc. … Look at the state of movie remakes for reference … People will hype whatever is marketed better, and while that’s not a new observation, the difference is that the bar has been dropped so low now, that it seems mediocrity deserves praise these days. Only independent game producers can make a difference, if any. It’s SOUL that’s missing in our “modern” games. Hope it makes a comeback in my lifetime ☯️ Till then, I’ll stick to retro consoles
