Pittsburgh Richard is a GREAT teacher, it's such a pleasure to hear it so it's not completely out of range for the lesser scientifig Educated player

I imagine the silent generation that were seen but not heard would be fascinated by the concept of filter sweeps and gain staging?

The casio VZ8M is fully sysEx compatible so despite its small knob-less appearance , it can be well controlled via MIDI.

I agree with Richard when it comes to attenuators. Modular synths should have attenuators on every single CV output. It makes such a massive difference to the possibilities on synths that have them. It is of course easy to make and add passive attanuators yourself, but that adds space and cost and cables that you should have been able to do without if modules were properly designed in the first place.

Attenuation on output doesn't make much sense as you might want to use the same signal on multiple inputs with variable attenuation, also you not only want (scalar) atenuation for finetuning but an offset as well. Luckily attenuation on imputs has been part of the Doepfer philosophy right from the start, and by adding it to an internal value you usually get offset too. Mr. Doepfer was quite smart about these things!

@@bojangprodoktschns5428 agreed, attenuation should be done on the input level.

I've been *slowly* building myself a modular system. One of the slots in my rack has both CV mixers AND CV distributors, some of which have inverting and noninverting outputs. Being able to combine different source of modulation and control voltages IN THE PROPORTIONS ONE WANTS is an important aid to creativity.

@@markhammer643 I understand this is why I have dedicated attenuverter/mixer/offset modules.

Amiga is a great machine if the bussiness model of comadore was better i think they would be like apple mac are now, at the time in the 80s the amiga was way ahead for multi media

@sonicstate Intellectual property rights mainly comprise copyrights, trademarks and patents. Patents expire after 20 years, trademarks can be renewed indefinitely, as long as they are actually used for trade, and copyrights is life +70 years in most of the world. Algorithms cannot be copyrighted, but the specific code used to implement them is copyrightable. An algorithm is, after all, just a sequence of steps or rules used to perform a specific task or solve a particular problem; an idea, but not yet fixed in a tangible form, and therefore anyone would be free to create their own coded version of an algorithm. The terms might sometimes be used less specifically, of course, so if by "algorithm" you actually meant "computer code", then copyright applies, and it is valid until 70 years after the death of the author, but as with other copyrights, it has to be of a certain originality, creativity or complexity to count. If the code is short or obvious, it could legally be considered non-copyrightable.

Gotta say the choice of topics wasn't for me really but, question for Paulee - how does one get a week off parenting? The only time I got it was after surgery, two week of rehab... (I think my two kids must be only a little older than yours)
