Between amazing talent like Noah and Christian Whitehead, Sega’s really gonna have to step it up now. Either get more focused on creating well-made games or hire these guys and give them the pay and respect they deserve so they can make official games that play like this. Absolutely beautiful. It's the perfect example of what a 2D Sonic game CAN be. I think Sega need to do both suggestions you made. Except for the movies, they have seriously mishandled their flagship franchise for so many years.

IMO fanmade content is a lot better when it comes to Sonic. Kart Krew, Christian Whitehead, Noah Copeland... now I wonder, what if this game got the Mania treatment in terms of graphics and animation (something that the Sonic Chaos Remake tried to do)?

@Chris Falcon I'm just glad that Sega allowed these projects to exist and gave these creators a chance. Nintendo can learn a thing or two from it. Given the success of this fangame and also of Sonic and the Fallen Star (which is just as good), I think Sega does need to commercialise games like this now because everyone involved will win. The franchise will, Sega will as these games will fly of the shelves and the creators will as they will get credited and hopefully earn a meaningful cut of the profits and the consumers will as it's great to be playing Sonic games of this quality again after so many years.

Nintendo won't, sadly. Remember Pokémon Uranium? Metroid 2 remake? Cease and Desist. Emulator sites are taken down, but then their old games are sold at ridiculous prices in their online shops. And the fans rejoice it, of course. Part of why I'm always happy to run Super Mario World in SNES9X instead paying a kidney for whatever iteration of Super Famicom mini or e-shop that stays online for three months and then it's lost media. SEGA realized that fan-made content keeps the interest in franchises fresh and it's even possible to capitalize on the talent these people display. Even though Sonic Mania has some pacing problems (I hate on how some stages post-Press Garden Zone are draggy) I'd say that this is the realization of this. The reason for why I prefer the fangames rather than SEGA's official content is because the fans make sure to give a video game. SEGA has tried too many things with Sonic. He's a werewolf, a knight, a space traveler... when Mania came out, he was what exactly I want him to be: a speedster who cracks down robots made by a man who says Pingas.

Especially in a crisp and buttery 60fps. It's rare to play a game that lived up to the hype and then surpasses it's expectations. Particularly true for a Sonic game.

So nice to see it actually get completed. As always Sunset Park is a delight. The woody-areas are kind of generic, but they felt that way in the original too. Once it gets to the second act of the final level is when it really starts to feel epic with the intense soundtrack and space-dust/stars flying above Earth in the background. Having actual cutscenes to explain how characters get to the different levels is always an upgrade. And love how it included Metal Sonic's Fighters theme (my favorite theme for him) as part of the music for the final (normal) time you fight him. And then he turns into the model seen in the intro cutscene of fighters during the secret final boss! I'm assuming what he does is absorbs the Negative Energy of the Chaos Emeralds. I never actually managed to beat Eggman in the final boss fight because of how damn hard he is in it in the original x_x it's so nice to see him made more fair in this version. Also like that it uses the Sonic 2 Ending Sprite of Super Sonic during the ending. That was always the most badass image of him.

In the original final boss 3rd phase with Eggman, you can use the strike dash ability with good timing to trivialise a lot of the fight as it made you invincible for half a second. But yes, it is definitely one of the harder Eggman fights. The Sonic Blast one isn't a joke either. I'm glad you noticed the nice touches in this game like I did! Probably the best Sonic fan project I've played. I still want to play it now!!

I like that Sonic, Knuckles, and Miles have the same sprite as in Sonic 3 & Knuckles

I've always thought they were the best sprites for any classic Sonic game. It's supposed to be a sequel to Sonic 3 and Knuckles so it cetainly fits the theme.

In the 20 something years I played the game of Sonic the Hedgehog I have never seen anything like this and I had this for Sega Game Gear I never thought it would look like this some of the zones bring back memories some of them just tricked me out but I am impressed with it to be believed but it hasn't disappointed me yet in the years that he became supersonic with the seven Chaos Emeralds and then when he was Hypersonic with the seven super emeralds the grand total of 14 emeralds he changed the whole bunch of colors
